👶 Lil Treasures #228: Baby Steps and Hype Squads
Plus bear attacks, Euphoria and going to the prom
Happy Mother’s Day to you and yours! I hope regardless of where you find yourself this weekend, you have an opportunity to celebrate those that have loved you into being (referencing Mister Rogers here, obviously). Biological mothers or not, there are people in all of our lives who showed up for us, offering tenderness, empathy, and love. I am grateful for these important figures in my own life, and know that without their care I would be a different person.
For anyone who has a tricky time with this holiday, we hold space for you and honor your grief, your unfulfilled longings, your anger and your weariness. May you feel nurtured by the love of God this weekend even in the midst of your hard feelings 🖤
And now for this week’s treasures!
🏴☠️ I really like to liven up the part of my morning routine that involves opening the blinds.
🐻 There’s a fresh new episode of Faith Adjacent waiting for your ears to listen! In this episode, we talked about hell, the Old Testament story about Elisha and the bears, and tackled a few more issues and topics that you don’t want to miss. Listen to the episode here or wherever you get your pods!
👊 I would like to give a special shout-out to the amazing bad-A lady hype squad in my life that has kept me grounded and motivated to do all the things. Do you have a similar group in your life? I wanna know!
👗 For my Birmingham and West Alabama friends: I have the honor of emceeing Mom Prom 2024 benefiting the Tuscaloosa Angels on Saturday, June 8! If you’re local to the area, come party with me, my own mom (yes, Gwen is coming!) and a bunch of other cool moms for a night of dinner, drinks, and dancing, all in support of the West Alabama foster care community. If you’ve been dying for an opportunity to go to prom again, this is your chance! Can’t be there in person? You can also sign up to be a sponsor!
💔 It is heartbreaking to see what is unfolding in Gaza each day. I truly feel like I don’t have the words, and I get overwhelmed with sadness and feelings of helplessness, all the while driving my kids to their activities and doing basic tasks that I don’t even have to think about. Kat Armas writes about this juxtaposition of balancing both normal life things and devastating grief in her recent post. This is also a powerful tweet on the same truth:
🤔 This week in The Swipe Up+, we talked about the ever-pressing question, “How Do I Let Go of What Other People Think of Me?” I don’t have any magical tips (sadly) to help you achieve this in your own life, but I did attempt to dive into my own experience and what it means to be free of letting other people’s opinions rule you.
If you’re a paid subscriber you can read it here, and if not, do consider coming to hang with us in The Swipe Up+ for $6 a month! OR if you just want to dip your toe in the water, email me at hello@erinhmoon.com and I’ll hook you up with a free trial so you can read this essay!
☂️ If you follow me on the ‘gram, you know my newest obsession is this video. I watch it almost-daily for that lil serotonin snack. I found this illustrated version that someone who is also equally as obsessed made and it is such a delight!
It’s Meme-O-Clock ⏰
Thanks for being a part of another week of treasures and turds! If you’re a mom, are you celebrating Fake Mother’s Day this week? Let me know your intricate plans in the comments if so. Byeeeee!
The cow tweet really got me. I was about to leave for work and discovered a neighboring farms cows and calves had found their way to my property. So after ascertaining that they would not head to the highway, I went door knocking to figure out which farmer needed alerted. Meanwhile the cows happily munched the dandelions.
Thanks as always for the serotonin snack (and now the phrase "serotonin snack," which will go directly into my vocabulary where it belongs)!
