🧠 Lil Treasures #248: Pregnancy Brain, Farmgirls + Manna from Heaven
We're talking therapy, tender hugs + stupid people on the internet
Hello and welcome! I hope this week’s newsletter finds you in a cozy, peaceful state. Or if you are the opposite of peaceful, may the plethora of links + memes bring a bit of joy and rest to your day.
Some treasures, for self-care:
🎥 If you watched the movie God’s Not Dead when it came out in 2014, we are revisiting this unforgettable piece of cinema over on the newest episode of Faith Adjacent! Did you know the best actor in the movie was the guy from Duck Dynasty? We talk about this (and more) as we try to decide what moments in the movie are favored or forsaken. You probably forgot all about this movie, but we apparently did not! I can’t wait for you to listen over at this link or wherever you get your pods.
🎀 I’m normally a big proponent of change and advancing the needle, but I think in this case we need to get back to the basics.
🍞 One of the most captivating and beautiful books I’ve ever held in my hands is The Book of Belonging, which officially released this week! Mariko Clark + Rachel Eleanor wrote/illustrated this storybook Bible for kids that offers a more inclusive and wonder-filled view of God and the stories in the Bible. I cannot express enough just how meaningful The Book of Belonging is and know that will impact so many readers across the globe. We did a Q+A with Rachel and Marri over on The Swipe Up+ this week, and they were also kind enough to offer you, my gorgeous Lil Swipes, a free chapter download. Read the chapter on Mercy + Manna below and get a glimpse of what I’m raving about!
👩🏼🌾 Comedian Leanne Morgan’s story about her trajectory from farmgirl to comedy star is just a delight. Although I will say her story also makes me want to open a hardware store with some good, quality rocking chairs. Leanne found fame in her 50’s so dream big, people!
🫂 Get your tissues out for this video of a son’s last hug with his dad before moving to another country. It’s just so tender!
🤰🏻After someone finally did some research, the experts have spoken and concluded that “pregnancy brain” is indeed real. The Washington Post wrote an article about what pregnancy does to a mom’s brain and as someone who has been pregnant and threw an uneaten banana in the washer just for fun, it felt extremely validating.
🥰 Elder millennial women: can we all come together and agree that we are still weak at the knees for Pacey (Joshua Jackson)? Should you need more convincing, he was just featured in this cover as a dapper lil painter and I’m obsessed with it.
👀 If you’ve been here long enough, you know I’m a big follower and fan of Pete Enns from the Bible for Normal People. Pete just wrote a new paywalled post over on his Substack
unpacking the ever-debated question, Are We Saved by Faith? It is so, so good and he’s offering a 7-day free trial if you want to try it out!😒 These are my exact feelings when I’m trying to make my therapist laugh and she responds with this line. Do you love making jokes in therapy? If so, you might love my new book! (subtle, right?)
Let’s do the memes!
That’ll do it for another roundup of internet treasures! The End. Donezo. Fin. Thanks for being here, and stay safe during the hurricane/bad weather this weekend. See you next time!
The Leanne Morgan story is also such a beautiful reminder that age on either end of the spectrum is its own gift. We can’t discount older individuals as if they’re past their prime, for sure. But we also can’t assume because a person is in their twenties that they have little to offer someone with more life experience. A verse in 2 Timothy comes to mind.
When I zoom out, the broader exhortation is that we ALL have value. We ALL have something worth celebrating. We ALL have a part to play. Even the people I disagree with about (insert literally anything good Lord are we done with election season yet?). What a simple reminder of our neighbors’ worth.
Looking at these pics of Josh Jackson I feel like he’s going to be millennial women’s George Clooney.
