New here! So here are my treasures this week...

1. Visiting a friend in Barcelona next week! So I’ll be going through vacay blues in a couple weeks.

2. Obsessively watching Somebody Feed Phil on Netflix. Jumped to the Madrid episode so I get in the mood for some Spanish cuisine.

3. Reading Daisy Jones & The Six which I know I’m late to the party but loving it!

Hello everyone! I had this week planned out by how much stamina I would need for each political event, and I have made it to Erin Moon's newsletter and my local baker delivering fresh bread to my door. IA primaries: Check. 1/6 Hearing: Check (ish) March For Our Lives: Let's do this!!!

My treasures are:

-The Calm App. The stretches and breath work are marvelous if you don't have time for an extended workout.

-A backyard cardinal. He's been visiting every so often this summer. The baby birds in the front gutter have flown the nest. Also, if anyone has any tips for being wildlife friendly but keeping rabbits out of the garden, I am all ears.

-The Pantsuit Politics community.

-The chapter on rage in Cole Arthur Riley's 'This Here Flesh' should be a national treasure.

-A lovely meeting with my spiritual director where we talked about the stream of change flowing throughout history.

Can't wait to catch up with everyone!

Whaaat! The sparkling drink with the ACV is so good! Not fake Coke. It’s like a fake gin and tonic for me over here. But… treasures!

👶 Harry and Meghan’s daughter Baby Lilibet… eeek! So cute.

🌹 I found some wild columbine flowers this week which made me happy because they’re a traditional Pentecost flower shaped like tongues of fire.

📖 Reading outside in the loungy chairs in the beautiful weather we’ve been having.

Hello all! Sarah, you are not the latest to the comments today - it's been a week. Currently lying in my bed while my kids watch LEGO Ninjago (why) and contemplating where to get take out (thinking Callaloo, for the Lancaster locals) and prepping to make How Sweet's frozen gin and tonic.

Treasures: This is our Summer of the Pool, which my kids love but is not my favorite summer activity. However, once I choose an activity (and pay the ridiculous price for a season pass), I COMMIT. And so we have been there multiple times a week, usually just me and the kids, and a surprise bonus is all of the friends we are seeing/making. This leads me to a plea for pool friendly make-ahead lunch/dinner options because the kids are already tired of PBJ. We are a plant-based, no gloppy white sauce family so send me all of your recipes! (Except for me. I love some mayo and ranch!)

I've also (finally!) made it through the entire MCU (well, through End Game) and have watched WandaVision and almost all of Loki. LOVED LOVED LOVED WandaVision- she is now officially my favorite character in the MCU, having displaced Loki as his show is just...meh? Not into Sylvie or Owen Wilson with gray hair trying to be serious. Plus it's been fairly predictable. But Tom Hiddleston is still a delight, and I would like a pair of the TVA coveralls.

Excited to read your treasures! May your weekends feature frosty drinks, perfectly molded to your head pillows, and good words.

Late to the comment game today, but it has been so, so good to read all your treasures and planned trips throughout the morning.

We traveled so much this spring, that our summer travel is light. We only have my family’s MN lake trip on the calendar, and I. Am. Pumped. There is just something about a Minnesota lake in July.

Treasures:

1. My 3 bigs were in VBS this week (LONG LIVE VBS!) so I had 3 hours of one-on-one time with my 11 month old every morning this week. So rare for the 4th, so I soaked it up.

2. Two audiobooks! Guys, I hate audiobooks, but these two were more like if The Popcast wrote a book, so I really enjoyed them:

- Sh@!, Actually by Lindy West

- From Hollywood with Love by Scott Meslow

Both about movies: the first with some snark, the second completely focused on RomComs.

3. Having my closest girlfriends over for back deck margs and deep chats. We do this once a month at various locations, and it is such a sweet time.

4. Okay, I was totally influenced by you, Erin, and skimmed through High School Musical 2 last night, which led me to do the same with HSM3 and then Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure (which was not fabulous). Hot take (maybe?): Ryan is the best of the main 6. Change my mind.

That’s all folks. I am tired after a full week and am hoping for a nap sometime this weekend; hoping you get one too if you need it! ❤️

This week has been the worst. My mom was at a work conference last week in the Netherlands and broke her ankle in a bike accident. (She is a missionary in North Africa.) She had to have surgery and her blood tests revealed a lot of abnormalities. She has been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and it is aggressive. The one treasure is that while they were originally going to keep her there to treat it, her doctors changed their minds and sent her home ASAP. So she is on a plane to Dulles right now and my aunt and uncle are picking her up and heading straight to UVA, where she’ll hopefully be admitted and start treatment ASAP.

My kids and I have been rotating illnesses and I have a cough right now. I’ve home tested negative for Covid, but I’m nervous about whether or not I should even be around her, along with everything else.

Also, stupid thing, but it was my birthday yesterday and it just made me feel even worse about it all. My daughter has her first ballet recital tonight and I’m trying to hold myself together and pretty much failing miserably. Any prayers appreciated.

The spelling bee video and the recess video were a really fun venn diagram for me because...ok so you know how some kids do soccer or dance or whatever? Well, my childhood hobby was competitive spelling. I never got NEARLY to the level shown in this video but I absolutely loved studying words and their patterns. And a lot of that studying did take place at recess 😂

Last night was a big treasure moment. I moved to Arkansas during what I call Big Covid (june 2020) so that definitely affected the speed at which I have made local friends...our town does a summer concert series in a park, and last night I went with a friend from church and I invited another friend and basically this random collection of people all met at this girl's house (who I had not met before) and ate charcuterie and walked over to this concert and sat and talked and I just got to MEET NEW PEOPLE ALL NIGHT, WHICH I LOVE, and it was a really magical moment that felt like a fulfillment of hopes deferred during the pandemic.

Turd: I am sad about how the annie f downs situation has played out this week. She has been an important influence to me in the last few years. The initial post was a clear mis-step, but deleting/blocking dissenting comments (that have largely been very gracious and thoughtful) has been even more disheartening. I don't feel closely connected to very many influencer-type people, so this is kind of the first time I've had to ask the question, "when's the point where I say goodbye?" I want to walk the walk and not just talk the talk when it comes to supporting survivors. I also still want to hold out hope that she will course-correct. I say all this gently, knowing that it is a loaded conversation. How have you guys considered this question for yourselves (whether about Annie or just public people in general)?

My treasure right now is the Percy Jackson extended universe (that's what I'm calling it anyway.) At the age of 29, I read the original Percy Jackson series in one month. I have now moved on to The Heroes of Olympus series, which I am reading slower mainly because I have rehearsal for a musical. But I am now 30 and completely loving these books that were written for Middle Grade readers.

And finally been going on Stupid Walks everyday before 10 am which makes them Stupid Circadian Walks and it’s been making my day a little better

I have had to deal with more cancelled plans this week than I ever thought imaginable and now with a sinus infection coming on, it brings me back to The Dark Place™️ of semi isolation flashbacks from 2020. It feels like I alternate every week lately between “life is a gift and everything is beautiful!!!!!” to basically no updates because of having to stay home and just recover. I love you all and I hope you have the best weekend available to you!

Treasure: my work had a lovely going away party for us last Sunday.

As excited as we are for this next chapter- I do feel like I’m drowning a bit in all the business of moving. Good vibes/prayers/candles appreciated.

Y'all! I told you two weeks ago that I was leaving teaching, and... I just got my first interview! I know it doesn't mean it will be the right fit, but it feels so exciting just to get an interview in the first place :)

Happy Friday friends! Summer is in full swing here in NC and we've had lots of families in the library this week is both delightful and exhausting.

😭 Fiddler last weekend was SO good! And I had the most amazing breakfast bowl at Tupelo that has me dreaming of when I can go back.

📚 I recommended books to a mom and daughter a month ago and they came back this week. Both enjoyed my recs and the girl also told her cousin to read the book as well! Recommendations are so hit and miss so it's fun when they land. For those interested, they were "The War That Saved My Life" and author Fiona Davis

🖥 I started watching Dollface on Hulu this week and I'm loving it

📅 This is my one weekend alone and not working this month and I'm looking forward to just chilling in PJ's and not leaving my house.

Love you all! I hope everyone is able to have the best weekend available 😊

Hello, I wish I was more consistent on leaving my treasures and such, but that is just not me and I am going to have to acknowledge that it is what it is.

With that said I just got back from a trip to Chicago, IL, with a stop in Murfreesboro, TN to see my best friend, and a stop in Bloomington, IL to see friends we have missed since we moved to the north suburbs of Atlanta. We had an amazing time with my friend and her family, seeing our friends and my 13yo daughter's 'boyfriend', and our own family in Chicago! It was great but I wanted to vomit a little every time we needed to fuel up on gas!

The latest book I read was another rendition of a Cinderella tale and it was good but nothing I would read again. It is called "The Stepsisters Tale"

Lastly, we came home from our trip with no air condition in our home! IT IS HOT IN THE SOUTH guys! Thankfully we have an amazing AC person who is up in our attic as I type fixing the Dampers and it will only set us back $525.

Whew! Much love to all!

As a new member of the “constantly nursing my newborn” club, I’m consuming A LOT of Instagram and Netflix. Because the algorithm is ~too wise~ everything that pops up on my feed is from lactation consultants or baby sleep experts. My mind is too full of differing advice. My exhausted (but also completely smitten) spirit can’t take any more mom guilt/worry/etc that I’m not doing it all right.

ANYWAYS, it’s a weird season to feel like everything is a treasure but also no moments feel like treasures when you have bodily fluids (his? mine? ours?) everywhere. So maybe my treasure is the hope that there is a light at the end of this newborn fog tunnel.

Any suggestions for ways to entertain myself while nursing are absolutely welcome. (Although, If you tell me to “sleep while the baby is sleeping” I will absolutely come through the screen at you. I don’t need that in my life 😅🤣)
