šLil Treasures #150:The King of Drool and Baby Elephants
We're talking about Facebook and manifesting all the good vibes
Hello and happy Friday to you, my lovelies!
Last week was the 8-year anniversary of my grandfatherās death. I still miss him so much. I truly believe that itās cathartic to talk through our grief, and to take time to honor those who we have loved that are no longer with us earth side. I wrote about my Papaās death and the process of grief over on The Swipe Up+, and Iād love to share a lil excerpt from the eulogy I gave at his funeral:
We're here to honor my grandfather, who was a member of the small percentage of people who lived out the things he believed in. The best way you can honor Papa is by loving the people that you've got and practicing what you preach. But we have another way we'd like to remember our grandfather. If one of the greatest gifts he gave was loving our grandmother, then we want to take up his life's work. We will honor him by honoring you: by trying with everything we've got to make sure you feel as loved and cared for and special as he spent every day trying to make you feel. The problem is, there's only five of us, and it's going to take more than that to make up for how much he brought.
I'll never be able to watch or read 'Lonesome Dove' without thinking of Papa. The character of Augustus McCrae always reminded me of him: hard-working, loyal, and completely ornery. Augustus has a line in the book that comes right before he dies. He looks at his best friend and says: āIt ain't dying I'm talking about, Woodrow; it's living. I doubt it matters where you die, but where you live.ā It sounds trite, but important things are, and Papa lives in us. You can't forget a man like that: a man who is so big and full of life that he permeates every corner of your existence. A man who showed you he loved you with every chance he got.
May you each have such a man in your life. May he mean as much to you as he does to us. And may we love others as Papa did. (Erin Moon, 2014)
Grief can be a b-word at times, but sharing our stories is a great way to reflect and appreciate. It was amazing and extremely healing to read all the comments in this post from others who had experienced loss as well. My friend Julie is your friend Julie!!! Imagine my surprise when I'm reading and the farther I get in the sentence, the more and more familiar it sounds. Go, Julie, Go!!!
There are 2 or 3 houses on my street that have really gone for it on the Halloween decorations, and I'm excited to find out if they're as enthusiastic about Christmas. Having a bunch of strangers knock on my door all evening is not an option with my "guard" dog and I'm not really up for that level of social interaction anyway, so I'm trying to decide whether to go half-Scrooge (bowl of candy on the porch with a note) or full Scrooge (porch light off, hide in my room watching Practical Magic and/or Hocus Pocus).
It's been years since I watched any baseball at all, and yet here I am with Game 1 of the World Series on in the background because I'm a good, red-blooded American, or something. Somehow it never fully feels like fall until Halloween, so happy fall!
