I'm just now getting to the newsletter this week, thanks to a very busy day yesterday that culminated in seeing Lucius in concert last night. It was maybe the most transcendent musical experience of my life? It was so good I think I got saved again.

My coworker who's in her 40s voted for the first time this week. I don't think Greg Abbott understands how motivated people are to get him out of the governor's mansion.

I've never been to an Irish wedding. I have been to one English wedding, which was extremely Christian but still English so there was a glass of wine served with the meal. The wedding was in June, and Brits a) don't believe in air conditioning, and b) are surprised every year when the temperature tops 90 degrees, even though it happens every year. Cut to a bunch of sweaty wedding guests pouring out of the reception and onto the lawn to try to catch any semblance of a breeze between courses.

I’ve had to collect, then parse out into various containers, my four year old’s poop for some lab samples to see if we can’t get to the bottom (ha!) of his reoccurring diarrhea and vomiting. So that was a literal TURD in my week.

But my treasures are that I VOTED today (come on Beto!), and I have no weekend plans (three years for No Move November 🎉🎉🎉)!

Hello everyone! Those people at the wedding are Irish. Irish weddings are quite fun and last as long as possible! Lots of Guinness and dancing too.

Since I found out about two weeks ago that we’re having TWINS, ultrasound techs have a special place in my life now 😂 I have not been able to stop thinking about how crazy it is that something so mundane to them (ultrasounds all day every day) can be so life-changing to the person on the receiving end.

Heading out this afternoon to hang with two college bffs for the weekend. Very pumped to sit around and do nothing with the type of friends who are perfect to do that kind of thing with.

Planning to go vote in between meetings today - I’m very excited, this will be my first time!! I’m bummed I’ve never done it before, and there several reasons why I haven’t, but giving myself grace and excited to see how it feels. I wish I would’ve had the capacity to study the ballot more closely - I feel a tad unprepared - but, I’m doing my best with the energy that has been available to me. 🙃

Hope you all have a lovely weekend and that nothing in your life makes you say oh no noodles.

This week has been exhausting. Six shifts in a row at work, and a mix of early starts and night shifts so double ugh. Our whole hospital region is transitioning to a new computer system this weekend and it will impact every aspect of patient care (in mostly good ways) but people are on edge. I’ve only been there for a couple of months and I’ve used the new system at another site so I’ve spent a lot of time trying to allay fears but it’s tough. Fell into bed last night at 8:30 and slept for 12 hours. Hoping not to get called in on my days off so I can get caught up on life. Loved the links this week! The Irish wedding drinkers is my family at every celebration.

When I was pregnant with my oldest, I had this old goblin of a man doing my ultrasound. When we found out the gender, for the picture he printed out, he put an arrow towards the dukachu and wrote "Mr.Happy". Seriously dude? I can't put that in the baby book!

Good morning Swipes!

This fall semester has been absolutely bonkers for me, and completely threw off my Friday morning rhythm of reading & commenting on here. But thankfully things have started to slow down (from a break-neck sprint to a normal run, I’ll take what i can get haha).

The thing I actually want to share today is a BFD win that I had at work. I am passionate about pastoring college students & I work at a Christian college to help lead a program that walks with students as they discern what God is calling them to, with a particular bent towards ministry (but students can be any major, we rarely reject any applications). Because we’re grant-funded, we had to hit a really audacious goal to meet to get the last installment of our funding (about $100k). The goal: have 105 total students by Nov 1. This meant we needed to recruit 50 new students, more than doubling our current size of 55. Honestly you guys, I didn’t know how we were even going to recruit 20.

But as of Monday, we had 45 students who had applied this semester, putting us at 101 students!!! ABSOLUTELY BONKERS. 🤯 And I personally met one-on-one with about 42 of them. 😂 This has God’s goodness written all over it. And not just because of the numbers or money (although having funding helps us do ministry well) - but because every single one of those students is looking for support and mentoring as they discern their calling, and have been nudged right to us.

Also, meeting with so many individual students (on top of the 12 college girls I already mentor regularly) miiiiiiiiight be why I am so tired. 😅

Okay, thanks for reading this novel. It’s tough to brag about yourself, but this is always such a great place to celebrate the wins. 💛

I hope your weekend is full of lounging and the warmest drinks! ❤️

I got home from London late Sunday and have spent the week recovering. I have a lingering cold and as such I've leaned hard into No Move November this week and I'm loving it.

The trip was amazing!! I honestly don't know when I'll ever be able to do something like that again and I'm still in awe that it actually happened. Like, the Guttenberg Bible at the British Library Evan mentioned on BB this week... I've been there! I've seen that! I saw Anne Boleyn's Tyndale Bible too!

Other treasures:

📚 I'm in the middle of Deanna Rayborn's newest and loving it!

🎪 Jacques ze Whipper tiktok! The perfect blandly handsome nerdy guy https://www.tiktok.com/@jacqueszewhipper?lang=en

🏰 I'm way late to the party, but I'm finally watching Castle on Hulu and it's a lot of fun!

Looking forward to catching up with everyone in the comments!

We have turned our garage into what I like to call our janky porch. Our old couch and tv are out here so I spend as much time as possible chillin on janky porch and hiding from the dogs that give me the allergies. We have two dogs and I love them but my bitterness knows no bounds about taking care of them. Strong enneagram 9 vibes when I said we could get them. I literally spent ten minutes crying about them in therapy this week. Feeling like a winner. Had a come to Jesus with the kids about taking care of their furry friends and the jury’s out on whether that will happen.

Saving my life right now - stupid walks in the cool weather, leftover Halloween candy, and Peppermint Mochas are back at Starbucks. Glory.

Helllllllllloooooooo Friends! I'm back!

Having a JOB with a desk that I'm actually at on Fridays is like an invitation from the universe to return to my beloveds in the Swipe Up! Up next getting caught up (and back in the flow) of Marco Polo....but first, Let's talk treasures!

*I'm finishing up week 2 of my new gig - Partners in Education Coordinator for Katy ISD (affectionately a PIE Girl) The job description is weird and hard to explain but basically we are the district's department that exist to enhance student learning with a variety of programs. I am lead for business and community partnerships and a hand full of other things and I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!!!

*I am not a huge sports ball person but it is hard to ignore the energy that Astros in the World Series brings to H-town and surrounding the surrounding area. It's electric and so much fun!

*We celebrated or 4th wedding anniversary on Wednesday with the traditional PTA Board Meeting, dinner prep and children shuttling that comes in your 40s - very romantic 😜 and yet perfect the way it is.

Now if actual fall can make it to Texas that would be great!

This week was bleh and work is causing me stress that is unnecessary but the biggest treasure of the week is that I discovered I love water aerobics and have now entered my water aerobics era and it’s magical. I get to shop at a local market tomorrow and I can’t wait to see what goodies await me!

Hello! Long-time lurker, first-time commenter here. But I have just finished listening to this album: https://benjaminwilliamhastings.lnk.to/albumIB

... and talk about a vulnerability hangover! I had goosebumps all the way through (apart from the one about his daughter when I SOBBED) - written right from the middle of the wilderness but still with hope.

My weekend starts today and I have finally accepted that I'm not over the (mild) Covid that I had in July so I have booked next week off work to "rest" in between parenting. I know it's the right thing to do but also admitting weakness and stepping off the hamster wheel even just for 3 days is unnerving!

Also it's bonfire night in the UK this weekend so we will be putting on our hats and ear defenders to watch all the fireworks!

Have a lovely weekend x

I'm reading this week's treasures from the 2nd ER room I've been in since Weds. I'd say it was nice to wake up to some funnies like the British wedding, but that would mean I slept. I think we all know that nurses and ER docs so everything in their power to ruin that possibility. Good news is daughter is being admitted so there should be areclinerhays at least more comfy than the plastic armed chairs I tried to contort myself into a mostly horizontal position in overnight.

My treasure is myself going gangsta mom on afore mentioned doc at 2 am and telling him I disagreed with his stupid idea of discharging her and that it was time for them to try something other than the bullshit outpatient care plan that isn't getting her answers or relief from pain.

He admitted her.💁

Soo... If anyone needs a passy aggressy 9w8 with ZERO filter to make conflict resolution calls today, I'm just loopy enough I might do it...😉 😵‍💫
