Ooh, if it hasn’t already been mentioned, would love to know more about the agenda/discussion points for periods and/or consent with the 10 year old! I’m the most awkward at finding those natural inroads to these discussions. Dying to know how you’ll casually jump into menstrual cycles while on the incline railroad or exploring the saltwater fish exhibit at the aquarium. 🧐

Love reading about everyone’s travel plans! Here’s to adventure! Here’s to wanderlust!

Looking most chronologically forward to the launch of a small group for new/young couples I’m facilitating (I am basically the chaperone) that I’ve called <clears throat>: Can I Get Your Number? Love & the Enneagram - all about how tools like the Enneagram help form language around complex behaviors and relationships. SO so pumped. I haven’t even publicized it officially in my church home and already have three couples committed WHAT?!

And what a gift this trip will be for your girl. Last time I was in Chattanooga, we stopped for brunch at State of Confusion. I still think about that ceviche dish.

I am surprising my theatre obsessed child with a 13th birthday trip in a few weeks to NYC where we get to see Hamilton AND Wicked! I am bummed his dad can’t join us, but am stupid excited to have this mother/ son time with him. I can’t wait for his reaction when he realizes where we’re headed! Having big kids is so fun!

As a therapist my clients get livid at me when the small things (like cleaning your room; GOING OUTSIDE, taking a stupid walk) actually work 😅 so I resonate with that tweet!

I’m looking forward to (& kind of anxious about) my own daughter’s 10th birthday trip to Chicago next weekend. We’re only staying for 1 night but she’s got big plans - girlfriend loooooves to plan any & everything! She really wants to go to the American Girl store & for a birthday surprise she can get her ears pierced there. We’ll also try to hit up a museum bc she is very into anything STEAM related. I can’t wait to watch her have the time of her life 😁

Love Chattanooga! Here are my recs...

- Nachos at Big River Grille downtown. SO yummy!

- Fried moon pies at Naked River Brewing Company.

- As others have mentioned, Rock City and Ruby Falls are fun.

- Visit the Chattanooga Choo Choo

- The Incline is a fun ride

- You'll love the aquarium

- If the weather is nice, just walking along the river is a lovely way to spend an afternoon and might lend itself well to your important talks.

Have the best time!

When I was a mid-20s youth, circa 2005, I boarded a plane in NYC headed for LA. As I was standing in the aisle waiting for the people in line in front of me to sit the heck down, I glanced down at the First Class seat next to me, and BEHOLD! Jeff Goldblum!! He was looking up at me giving me a very Jeff Goldblum subtle smile. I smiled back, and about that time the line started moving. I got about 4 rows past him, and turned around to glance back at him...and he had TURNED AROUND IN HIS SEAT TO LOOK AT ME. Gah!!! To this day, my husband will tell our kids, “That’s Jeff Goldblum. He checked out your mom’s butt.” 😂😂😂

Y'all! I have not been in the comments in ~forever~ and want to try to make it a more regular thing. Some updates:

- I mentioned last time that I'm pregnant with twins, and since then we've found out we're having boys! Yay! This has helped us get more excited and start to actually picture them being people, not just little alien blobs that make my back hurt.

- My life is a string of acquaintances asking me, "How are you feeling?" I have no doubt the intent is kind, but it feels constant. My sister in law thinks I should respond by loudly talking about my vagina to freak them out, and I'm one "how are you feeling" away from enacting this. Do any of you have hacks for succinctly and kindly answering complicated questions asked by well-meaning acquaintances??

- I have ordered the "one line a day" journal as a hopeful antidote to the journaling paralysis that I've had for the past few years. Pre-2020, I was an avid journaler, but since then it feels like a lot of pressure. Yet, I still want to keep track of significant moments and feelings. Any one line a day fans out there?

- Because twin things, I go to the maternal-fetal specialist for monitoring every 2 weeks. I was told in advance by a friend who saw this doctor that he's a "great doctor, but weird guy". (not creepy weird, just quirky.) This assessment has proven correct - very stoic and mumbly. Therefore, I am on a quest to become his pal. Progress so far: none. But we're only at 22 weeks so we've got time. Will update as relevant.

So much more I could say, but I'll cap it there for now! Fun to read all your updates!

Hi Erin! 👋🏼

What I am really looking forward to as of late is getting to go visit my brother and his fiancée who he recently proposed to. We haven’t seen them in over a year and I am so excited to spend some quality time with them. In addition to that, we are REALLY looking forward to our first family trip to Walt Disney World the week of Easter. We are doing Magic Kingdom the day after Palm Sunday, Epcot the next day, and Hollywood Studios on our last day to explore Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. We have never been before and plan to Uber everywhere as a family of 4 (7 and 5 year old), so I would welcome recommendations!

Can someone explain to this Canadian what a 'second line' is?

Erin- I wasn't looking forward to anything (geez, that's depressing) but now I am looking forward to your reaction to seeing Hadestown. Please record some reactions post-show.

Mean-Median-Mode sidebar: I bought toaster strudels for the first time in ??? and all I thought as I ate them was "Brutus is just as cute as Caesar!"

10-yr birthday getaways are a family ritual for us too! I took my 2 daughters away when they each turned 10 to talk about periods and all the things. As a fun and practical souvenir, the "mission" for each trip was to find a cute pouch for the girls to take home to use for their personal period things. :) Gave us purpose when shopping and kept the conversation open and fun! Happy weekends and cup-filling to you!

I always plan a "mom retreat" with my daughters Godmother for MLK weekend every year. We go to the beach, bring our planners, lay out all the highlighters and washi tape and make goals for family, marriage, parenting, careers, spiritual formation, etc and then put on our calendar days that we will hold one another accountable. This is our 4th year doing it and it is honestly one of the best weekends of the year. It helps to start the year off with a bang and helps me feel refreshed and ready to tackle the new year knowing I have love and support from someone else I love very much.
