A new feature here in the Swipe Up community is what I have hastily christened the Lil Treasures Thread. Every* Friday, the plan is to drop a few things that I really loved this week, and then open up the thread to hear what YOU loved! My kids always come home with pockets and backpacks full of tiny treasures: pretty rocks, erasers they’ve swapped, notes from friends, pictures from magazines they’ve cut out: this is the internet version of that. Think of it as digital pocket detritus.
(They also bring home crumpled notes from their teachers to say that you have an important breakfast to attend, but they give it to you a day late, so…)
One of the things a few of you mentioned in the survey I did last month was that you’d like a way to meet all the other Lil Swipes who are “just as weird and hilarious” as you are (that’s a direct quote: but I will also add “thoughtful” because y’all smart too). So hopefully, this will give us an avenue by which to do just that. Hilarious, thoughtful weirdo, meet the other hilarious, thoughtful weirdos. If you’re new here, hi! This is also a brand-new development, so cue that High School Musical “We’re All In This Together” gif. We’ll try it out together and see where it goes.
So I’ll start us off. This week was obviously a big week for me personally because of all that hot hot hot Mister Rogers content saturating our internet.
Also this is just a reminder that I have a Mister Rogers Self-Care Protocol highlight on my Instagram and it’s about to bust at the seams with wholesome Mister Rogers content SHOULD YOU NEED IT DURING…I DON’T KNOW…IMPEACHMENT HEARINGS. 🤷🏻♀️
I bought these gloves this week. They are so cute (I chose the green confetti color**) AND they are touchscreen sensitive, so you can still use that phone. 🧤
This video of a guy imploding his Final Jeopardy question in order to tell Alex Trebeck he loves him. 🆘
I am publically withdrawing from the Enneagram conversation for PERSONAL REASONS related to VULNERABILITY but I did love Knox and Jamie doing Enneagram for the Holidays. Sometimes I don’t sit in the room with them when they record, so the episode is a surprise. This was one of those times for about 2/3 of the episode. 😆
And finally, Ben and I watched the first episode of The World According to Jeff Goldblum on Disney+ last night and it is…wacky, off-kilter, charming, informative, and just aggressively Jeff Goldblum-y. We are big JG fans and this just really hit all our buttons: it gave me Anthony Bourdain/No Reservation-vibes, but kind of nutty. I’m doing a terrible job of explaining it but the bottom line is: do recommend. (We also loved the first episode of The Mandalorian). I plan on watching High School Musical: The Musical: The Series this weekend and celebrating #nomovenovember. 👓
Okay! Your turn! Empty those pockets and dig through those backpacks and share what you loved this week with the group!

I live in Tennessee and fell in love with Dolly when we moved here because she sends every.child.born.here.a.book.every.month!!!! I’m not a country fan but that alone made me love her. Then I started listening to Dolly Parton’s America and I’m even considering going to Dollywood, even though I’ve called it a tacky Disney World. Don’t even get me started on Gatlinburg. (I’m sorry Tennessee, there is so much I love about you, Gatlinburg just isn’t one of them. Your waterfalls? They rock.) Back to books, it’s an amazing program and every state should have a program like this.
We watched Knox's green light The Peanut Butter Falcon thIs weekend and it was so good! Funny and heartwarming. When I told my husband the name of the movie I had rented he was very sceptical but ended up loving it as well. I even overheard him recommending it to his sister. :)
So my 10 yo son is hundo p addicted to mainstream popular music right now and plays it constantly. BC I’m tryna follow the Moon example and not romp on his ding-dong (ok I like the idea but I’m prolly gonna find a different phrase) we listen a little in the car. I was by myself listening to his station and the song Time by NF came on. Gosh those lyrics are tough and precious. This slays me every time
“Got a lot of issues, I'm tryin' to work through 'em
Going to therapy for you's somethin' that's worth doin'
When I know you been there for me through all of my worst moments
And I know it hurts knowing that I carry this weight on my chest
Making it difficult for me to open up and connect
Lot of regrets, I apologize for all of the stress
That's not what I meant to do, you know I love you to death”
This tough rapper singing about therapy is just the best.
Late to this game, but I just finished listening to The Dutch House as “preformed” by Tom Hanks. The book was...fine, him reading to me for 7 hours, yes and thank you.
I finally watched the Queer Eye in Japan. Super-kawaiii! What is it about the makeover and make-inner model? AIso, I spied one of my biggest turkeys in my 4th grade class being ultra-kind to a group of preschoolers on the playground. (I snapped a photo for his mom!)
My husband and I watched TWATJG (seems like an inappropriate acronym) this morning and I looked at him and said “this feels like No Reservations meets Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.” Bourdain + Seinfeld = Goldblum
I am very late to the game with this one, but I have finally gotten in to the Pantsuit Politics podcast. I love their nuanced view and their ability to distill things into poignant, easy-to-understand chunks. This has been ESPECIALLY helpful with the tidal wave of information, political spin, and general anger/annoyance pouring from the open hearings. I hate being out of the loop, but I equally hate technical nonsense that makes me feel stupid. So this podcast has been a gift.
I finished Sarah Bessey’s latest and wow. Just wow. I was weeping on an airplane.
Also discovered this week: shopping at local thrift stores for souvenirs. We are in Hawaii and I have had the best time shopping at the local thrift stores for wacky tshirts for my kids. Gems.
Y'all, I'm still a month out from having baby #3 but feeling frazzled trying to chase down two other toddlers so the Sweater Weather Instrumentals playlist on Spotify is giving me the calm my tired body needs. Also, it's National Bundt Cake day so I got a free cake and I'm not sharing 😊
I have been on the fence about getting Disney+, but after reading all the posts I feel like I may need to take the plunge. I have been debating between Disney+ and AppleTV+. Does anyone have AppleTV+?
Loving Layla @letteredcottage on Instagram! She is such a sweet, lovely person (I first heard her speak on The Happy Hour podcast). I love her decorating/fashion info, but I really stick around for her beautiful heart! Her insta-stories are my fave!
Well, I "discovered" Erin Hilderbrand this week. I know, I know... I'm going to have to remove book-nerd from my bio because I have obviously been living under a rock. But wow to her writing. As an added bonus, I listed to my first from her on audiobook and fell in love. I've always been one of those people who dissed audiobooks, but now I am 100% on board.
Another Mister Rogers treasure—I feel like you probably already know about it, but I don’t see it mentioned here yet—the Finding Fred podcast. Similar to Dolly’s America, it’s not just about Dolly
Hi hilarious, thoughtful weirdos! Can you watch Juinor Bake Off in the US (where I'm guessing most of you live)? It's the only thing that keeps me going at the moment. It's just so pure!
I’m reading Infused: adventures in tea by Henrietta Lovell. She is a delight. I love the mix of history of tea, her memoir and just fun storytelling. Who knew tea could be so interesting!
I read The Chestnut Man this week (after a Jamie green light and a little wait at the library) and WHOA was it good! Also totally agree on that Daily episode with the incredibly perceptive Leo. Loved that this week too! And digging the Catlick podcast too.
I bought the green dress from your Amazon store and it’s a match! Correct sizing and length! Loving Disney+ “The Imagineering Story.” Thanks for making such great content and now A Lil’ Swipe water cooler!
Highlight of my week - my friend got me one of these for my birthday and I haven’t taken it off since.😍 The latest in wearable blanket technology and it comes in kid sizes too. I feel like it should be an official sponsor of No Move November.🙌🏼
Just Disney+. It’s my new favorite thing!! Wanna watch HSM? It’s there. Wanna watch Princess Diaries? There. Sister Act? There. IT HAS ALL THE THINGSSSSSSS!!!!!
Have you listened to the episode of Conan O'brien Needs A Friend with Jeff Goldblum? It's stranger than I expected, but also hilarious. That whole podcast is bringing me joy.
We watched Aladdin 3 last night on D+. I knew it was going to be terrible, but I also remember Robin Williams returned for Genie. Y’all. It is an outright goldmine of Williams improv and one liners. My husband and I were dying but it also felt like a sweet love letter you find after a loved one passes.
Robin is gone, but we found this beautifully hilarious, hidden treasure of his humor.
Don't sleep on "Dolly Parton's America" podcast, hosted by sweet nerdy love nugget Jad Abumrad (of RadioLab fame). Its a thoughtful and different look at Dolly's influence on culture, but also an ode to the power of kindness and a reminder of the things that connect us all. This is NOT a series about country music. Its about humanity and sense of place and generosity and family and the South and more...with an occasional clever boob joke thrown in by Dolly herself.
The puppy called Narwhal with a tail on his forehead gave me so much joy this week... my husband said it’s creepy but I think it’s lovely! I sometimes feel like I might have a tail growing out if my forehead too...
I watched The Apple Dumpling Gang and The Flight of the Navigator on Disney+ this week, and they were just as delightful as I remembered! Next up this weekend, Darby O’Gill and the Little People. It terrified and fascinated me all at the same time as a kid. I’m hoping they bring Not Quite Human out of the vault soon!
I loved getting to see the Popcast team in Atlanta this week! Y’all are the best. Other than that, with British Bake Off ending and as we hurtle towards the holidays, I’m enjoying the Holiday Baking Competition on Hulu. They don’t just do Christmas, a smidge of Thanksgiving and Hanukkah is in there, too. It has a few seasons, and while I’m not ready to decorate, watch Christmas movies, or listen to the music yet, it’s a more pleasant American baking show to have in the background or watch with family.
Thanks for the link to the gloves—I need new ones. But my question is—how do you wear the headband that’s next to the gloves? I love the look, no idea of how to actually do it.

Oh and The Finding Fred Podcast is MAGICAL --> https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/finding-fred/id1477279443
I am also loving the Dolly podcast and can't wait for her Netflix show :)

This article about the psychology and patriarchy behind why women can’t poop in public is fascinating, infuriating, hilarious, and super relatable. My best girl friends and I have a group message and the amount of times we talk about how much we hate when women wait around for everyone to leave the bathroom so they can poop and so I felt vindicated by this article. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/17/style/women-poop-at-work.html?utm_source=The+Daily+Good&utm_campaign=58c8f169b9-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_10_22_05_29&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_cfbed2f865-58c8f169b9-146345785
Hi hilarious, thoughtful weirdos! Can you watch Juinor Bake Off in the US (where I'm guessing most of you live)? It's the only thing that keeps me going at the moment. It's just so pure!
Loving the cold rainy days which allow for more time for Disney+ and Billy on the Street on Netflix, my new end-of-day stress-reliever!
I love a good Twitch and Allison Holker dance video, especially when Allison is a boss dancing 1 week postpartum. https://www.instagram.com/p/B40uJKrBAW4/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&fbclid=IwAR2A27toldEcMDCp0jGOtxeSBheJt9hVRvf5Sm4JhIXImbVyAzh2wFbQ8X8

It’s an oldie but a goodie, and somehow I missed it for a long time - check out Tom Holland on Lip Sync battle

This gives all the feels: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYQu1g5xQj0 Kelsea Ballerini on the CMAs, a moving song and a guitar.

Mister Rogers..... all the yeses. Disney +, mandalorian was so good! Also HSM the series! My girl is watching episode 2 as we speak!
