🎉 The Thing That Is Saving My Life™️ and A Giveaway! 🎉
How I'm maintaining any semblance of sanity.
Continuing our tradition of sharing treasures here, I’m interrupting your inbox to extol the virtues of The Thing That Is Saving My Life Right Now™️: The Lazy Genuis Way by Kendra Adachi.
This is me with the book. I had a photoshoot with it. It’s fine. When I really love something, I get all squinty-eyed about it. Please ignore my ham hands.
Let’s get this out of the way: I’m internet friends with Kendra, so yes, it’s natural that I would want to champion her book even if it was the emotional equivalent of eating a hair and mayonnaise sandwich.
But good news for everyone: this book will change your life. This book is the equivalent to discovering there’s a ladies quilting club happening at 4pm on Thursdays in the Methodist church basement, and while these ladies make beautiful quilts, they also share the secrets of the universe with you. They are cool, they know more than you ever will, and they are generous with their wisdom. Some of them make a killer chocolate chip cookie, and some of them have a flask of bourbon they carry with them. Sometimes it gets saucy. You always leave smarter.
That’s not hyperbole. Because Kendra’s principles and brilliance have changed my own life.
I love guardrails. I love expectations. I am a mess if I am not corralled into some kind of structure. I know that feels constraining to some, but for me, if I am free to roam, I’ll do just that: roam around with no purpose, no goals, and years will pass and I’ll still be a mess. When I first began listening to The Lazy Genius podcast, Kendra became a sort of circus ringmaster, bullwhipping me (that sounds aggressive, but it was a gentle bullwhipping) into thinking about what I wanted my life to look like, as opposed to floating through my hours, constantly stressed that I had no time to do anything well, and frustrated because I didn’t even know how to make that happen.
I will never forget the first time I ever listened to Kendra’s podcast and she offered the suggestion of wearing a Monday uniform. A simple suggestion. Wear the same thing every Monday. Keep it simple: denim shirt, black pants. And just like that: a tiny bit of space opened up in my brain. Enough to breathe. And I’ve been hooked ever since.
I also have the HONOR of joining Kendra on her show today as she applies The Lazy Genius Way to my morning routine. Since we’ve recorded, I’ve been doing exactly what she recommends, and it has been a gamechanger. She’s brilliant.
This is me and my friend, Terrance, who also wears The Lazy Genius Monday uniform. We’ve been in the game since 2018! Also I am giving squinty-eye here so you know it’s real.
What I like about Kendra’s way to manage your life is that she’s not trying to fit your boobs into her bra, you know? She’s here to offer you a structure instead of a one-size-fits-all mandate. That’s why this book is required reading for everyone: it doesn’t matter what phase of life you are in, it doesn’t matter your relationship status or your gender, when you lay Kendra’s principles over your own life, they immediately lock into place for you and your circumstances.
I hope you have your copy, and if not, now is the perfect time to snag it.
Here’s the thing: I love this book, I’d love it if Kendra was an actual circus ringmaster and I didn’t know her, and I paid MY OWN AMERICAN DOLLARS to buy two extra copies because I think it’s that impactful. So, I would love for you to share in the comments someone you think would benefit from reading The Lazy Genius Way, I’ll randomly choose one comment, and both of you will get this precious text. Or if you already have it, nominate two people. One entry per person, please, and although I love my non-American friends, sadly, this giveaway is only open to Americans because your girl isn’t prepared for international shipping. I’ll comment on the winner’s post on Wednesday evening at 7pm CT, so any comments after that won’t be eligible.
A gentle bullwhip. A smarter, cooler big sister. The Home Ec teacher that doesn’t try to teach you how to sew a button, but tells you how to live your LIFE so you aren’t bogged down by life, you know?
Got a younger friend going into college? They need this book.
Got a niece who is about to enter the real world? This book can guide her.
New mom? New dad? Empty nesters? It applies.
You won’t keep this book on your bookshelf. It’s going to get marked up, carried around, passed to pals, and shared with your kids as they grow up. It’s the kind of book that will be your friend for life.
You can order The Lazy Genius Way today!
I would love this book for my little sister Rachel who is starting a NEW job next week!!! She would get so much out of Kendra’s principles!
I would like to nominate my 'best friend who used to be my neighbor,' (which is how I usually refer to her) Sarah. Sarah had baby boy number 5 when she was 42 years old. She home school's all of them. Pre-K through 7th grade. AND they just moved out to a house on 5 acres of land and she voluntarily helps her neighbors do things like feed their chickens and gather their eggs. As if she doesn't have enough to do. Back when we were neighbors and I stayed at home with my three, we spent hours and hours talking about ways to make our lives easier. This is the book we needed 5 years ago but could still use today.
