π Lil Treasures #106: The Weight of Lies and A Book of Food
Plus a lil swipes baby and fancy mayonnaise
Howdy to you all, and a very happy Friday!
Letβs do some treasures!
π° This is an excellent article about formal journalist Stephen Glass, who got exposed a few years ago for being a fraud and fabricating countless stories and information. The article dives into the aftermath of him getting caught, and how the weight of lying has been formative in his life (spoiler: it has some really tender momentsπ€§ ).
π One of my favorites, Dr. Karen Swallow Prior, was on a podcast recently where she talked about the value of literature and reading old books. She is so lovely and so is this episode, so add it to your docket wherever you get your pods! π§
πΆ One of our lovely Lil Swipes, Tricia, is expecting a sweet baby girl here soon! She and her husband have run into some difficult hardships the last year and could really use a boost of hope right now. This community is one of the most kind and generous out there, so I thought we might try to knock out a few items from her baby registry! Here's a link to Triciaβs registry if you can help!
π’ Anne Helen Petersen, who is a writer and has a weekly newsletter that is excellent, wrote this article in the Atlantic about what post-pandemic work culture looks like and how it has impacted our views of work and rest. If you love Anne Helenβs work like I do, you also might love her book, which just released this past week! You can order her book Out of Office: The Big Problem and Bigger Promise of Working from Home here!
π± Here's my favorite video from this week! π
Ready for those good Tweets?

Alright, thatβs it for me! Au revoir, my friends! Hope your weekends treat you well. See you in the comments!
My favorite place in all the internet land. β₯οΈ
Some treasures:
πͺ: I am getting paid an abnormally large amount of money to bake a few dozen treats for my old nanny boss. She does not cook or bake and has three cookie parties to go to. So today at 6 am I will start with the first batch of her treats!
πͺ: I F I N A L L Y got appletv and started watching Ted Lasso. Holy Cow. I hope this show never ends.
πͺ: I am basically done christmas shopping for everyone already! I have to stop at the post office today and send a few packages and I still have a few small things I need to buy my husband, but thatβs about it!
πͺ: I work in the SLC visitorβs center now and I got to help the cutest couple from Knoxville yesterday. They just moved here because he loves to ski and got a job up at a resort in park city. They were so fun and we chatted for almost an hour and I answered all their questions.
Now, some turds. Iβd like to begin by saying that in reference to how I am doing, overall, I am basically Bo Burnham in his Inside special saying, βYeaaahhhh I am not doing well!β So here we are. Turds this week will be represented as feet, because feet are disgusting.
π¦ΆπΌI have never had this happen before, but on Wednesday, I was just thinking about our family friend, and I heard clear as day, βYou need to text her and let her know youβre thinking about herβ. I ignored it at first but it happened two more times that day, so I finally did that evening. I left it simple and just told her I was thinking of her and hoping she was doing well. She responded and said sheβd had an abnormal mammogram and hadnβt told anyone. She canβt get tested until next Friday, but she doesnβt want to worry her daughters before anything serious. I sobbed. This woman is so kind and lovely. Even though she says the likelihood of it being benign is extremely high, I just wish she didnβt even have to be in the middle of it.
π¦ΆπΌ I am basically detoxing off of 9 years of being on the birth control pill and I feel almost clinically insane. I donβt mean that lightly - I donβt know that I have ever had ups and downs like this.
Thatβs all, folks. Iβll see you in the comments while I bake today and dream about squeezing some of you at the Chicago live show in April!
Good morning to the most awesome group ever!
That Paul McCartney tweet kills me! It really is kind of a bizarre song.
Last week I mentioned possibly being offered a job with the organization I used to work for, and yesterday they finally called with the offer, so in 2022 Iβm going back to being a non-profit babe! Iβm going to be a grant writer for our Alabama and Mississippi region, which I have no experience doing, but hopefully I will figure it out π€·ββοΈ The best part is I will go back to being a hybrid employee, so I can work from the office or at home as I see fit. That type of flexibility is priceless and if you can find a job that offers it definitely take advantage of it! Now I have to go tell my current boss and ruin her weekend. Wish me luck!
Canβt wait to catch up with yβall in the comments π
