🕊️Lil Treasures #127: Dirty Dancing and The Dove Awards
We're talking spending money and should Christian women have butts?
We did it. We made it to Friday! I for one am extremely grateful. Y’all, I think May is going to put me in the ground. I realize I heaped some of this on myself, however I also did not remember that the month of May has so many activities. Why are they all here? Why are there so many places we have to drive? Why do we have to have a special event every single day of the last week of school?
I think my physical body is also easily fatigued right now because my spirit and emotional well-being are spent, so over-extended after a prolonged amount of heaviness. This week, the shootings at both a Buffalo supermarket and a Taiwanese church in California. The war in Ukraine. The stupid things people are saying on Twitter. The difficult burdens that those close to me carry. I’m reminded once again of a quote from Bryan Stevenson: “You can’t understand the most important things at a distance. You have to get close.” There is weariness that comes in digging in our heels and leaning into the grief alongside those who are hurting. We get close because we know that our hearts are meant to be broken and stretched, making room for more compassion, more empathy. So we move forward together, weary but determined to link arms with those around us walking in despair. We know that school activities will end (thank you sweet Jesus), but the need for empathy and compassion will always remain.
Okay! I’m tired but I do have treasures!
🇺🇸 On this week’s episode of The Bible Binge, we’re doing a Favored or Forsaken and talking about if America should be a Christian nation. Also the amazing Beth Silvers from Pantsuit Politics made a guest appearance as well! Intrigued? Give it a listen wherever your access your pods!
🙄 Parents of pre-teen girls: this video will resonate with you..
🍑 This piece by Matthew Pierce called Should Christian Women have Butts is one of the funniest things I’ve ever read.
➕ This week in the Swipe Up+, we collectively attempted to share wisdom with Lil Swipe Alex, who asked: “Considering a career change, but don’t know where to start! How do you figure out what your next move is when you’ve done your plan A and there was never a plan B?” There are almost fifty comments full of great ideas and resources, so if this is something you’re struggling with, come hang out with us. Next week, I am sharing all the things I learned from parenting a middle schooler this year and how surprised I was that so much was applicable in adult world.
💜 One of my newest internet friends, Zach Lambert, is a pastor out of Austin, TX. He is a gifted communicator and is doing great work to dismantle a lot of harmful behaviors in the church. He shared this helpful clip earlier this week filled with advice on how to walk alongside and support our transgender friends and neighbors.
🫶 Like many of you, I am still grieving alongside the BIPOC community about the tragic shooting that happened last week in Buffalo, NY. I came across this video from the New York Times of Garnell Whitfield, who lost his mother in the shooting. It is easy to feel overwhelmed and helpless in situations like these, but if you want some ways to help the affected communities in Buffalo this account has compiled a list of resources. Also, if you are a parent who is trying to practice antiracism with your children, this post by Meredith Anne Miller might be a helpful tool for you.
💗 This whole thread on emotional maturity in children was so helpful to me.
👶 Guys I could not stop laughing at this kid who found out he was getting a new sister.
Let’s do the Tweets!
THIS. I LOVED THIS SO MUCH.
I feel this in my bones
Alright peeps! Thank you for being here. I like you so much. Looking forward to reading all your treasures. See you next time!
Hello, friends!
I have a problem. There is so much good reading and podcasting to consume! I've been trying to get on a better reading schedule. I started out the year strong but have since fallen behind. I love to read, especially with the help of Anne Bogel's reading journal. Finding time or motivation has just been difficult. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to focus on what you actually want to read/listen to especially when you get overwhelmed fairly easily?
My treasures this week are Laura Tremaine's #onedaymay and Kaitlin Curtice's poetry prompts. I have also been enjoying getting my garden in order and now the strawberries are in! We will focus on getting the native plants in next.
Matthew Pierce is a national treasure, if for no other reason than that he has taken on the important work of trolling James Dobson and John Piper.
You guys, there are no cats on the planet who want to be loved more than the scrappy, mangey, scarred-up stray toms. They're lovers, not fighters. They're not here by choice, but the world is a hard place and you've gotta be tough if you're gonna make it out on the street. Really they just want a few pets and a lap to sit in and maybe a window to watch birds out of that will also make a sunny patch on the floor. Imagine all of the above said by a cartoon cat with a tough Jersey accent and a smoker's cough. This message is brought to you by the absolutely pathetic "feral" feline specimen I saw at work today, who after meowing persistently enough to convince me to crack open the cat trap, proceeded to shove his whole self into my hand for pets.
Everything is on fire, but this book is a delight: https://www.amazon.com/Marvellous-Light-Last-Binding/dp/1250831792/?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_w=dKopj&pf_rd_p=bbb6bbd8-d236-47cb-b42f-734cb0cacc1f&pf_rd_r=49P92SKG76VQKNH9WKTC&pd_rd_r=a7e9b064-90b4-4baf-bb0c-121ef6315415&pd_rd_wg=kBKGW&ref_=pd_gw_ci_mcx_mi
I picked it up at the library, LOVED it, and am now eagerly awaiting the next installment due out in November. There are some on-screen sexy times, so viewer discretion is advised.
