🍲Lil Treasures #142: Soup Mode and Serena Williams
We're talking domestic artistry and pulling an all-dayer
Happy Friday, pals!
We made it to a new month and a 3 day weekend. Huzzah! I’m spending this weekend doing all the sports things in the midst of solo parenting. We will prevail, although there will be much fast food involved. Might even get fancy and go by the Costco food court. My son tried his first Costco dog last month, and it was a hit:
Also during this glorious Costco dining experience, somehow the topic of what Jesus is like came up. I love these kinds of simple conversations because it’s fascinating to see what my kids have processed up to this point. Here are the qualities of Jesus, according to Cyrus:
👟 Jesus has good shoes.
🦾 Jesus has one giant arm to beat all the bad guys.
🏃♂️Jesus runs fast.
🌭Jesus really likes hot dogs.
I really hope Jesus does like hot dogs, to be honest. And I hope your Labor Day weekend is full of them, or whatever your preferred party food is. Got any fun plans for the holiday weekend? Can’t wait to hear all about them!
Okay, let’s get to this week’s treasures:
🏆Serena Williams is a goddess. An absolute legend. She is currently playing in her last tennis tournament ever, having announced that she’d be retiring upon shooting her shot in the U.S. Open. So of course I have been on the edge of my seat all week, watching her shine while she’s still on the stage. This article in TIME magazine is a lovely tribute to her and all she has brought to the sport and the incredible legacy she created.
😎This book has been out for a couple of weeks and I completely forgot to mention it, but if you haven’t ordered your copy of Celebrities for Jesus by Katelyn Beaty you need to add that thing to cart!
💋It’s officially September! If you haven’t tuned in to this week’s episode of The Popcast, we did an SMK of all things September-related. I heard a rumor that Erin of Grievances also made a guest appearance, so if you’re into long ragey rants, you can listen to the episode here!
☕I’ve been on an iced coffee kick lately and this video perfectly captures my overall post-caffeine chaos. Razzle effing dazzle you guys.
🪄I feel like I have saved everything this man has written, but please don’t miss this post by Andy Squyres.
🧵Creativity can play out in so many different beautiful ways. I loved this perspective of domestic artistry in this piece in The Washington Post.
Time for the Tweets!
Don’t forget to leave your treasures in the comments! I am still DYING at some of your first date stories. Truly amazing. And also terrifying. Enjoy your Labor Day weekend, friends!
I similarly also had my first Costco hot dog experience this month and let me just say that this side of heaven it’s the closest I’ve felt to Jesus. The bread, the weiner, the Diet Pepsi, and the aggressive staff literally slinging hot dogs into aluminum foil?? Transcendental is all I can say.
I would use “I need a grown-up” at least once a week. At least. Loved the Andy Squires post. I always appreciate it when someone points out the unlikeliness of Christianity since I have those thoughts all the time. I’m on “vacation” with my husband and 3 year old and 5 year old. Really it’s just parenting in another location with uncertain and treacherous scenarios abounding. Extreme parenting. It will be fun though. We’re going to the zoo. Pretty sure that we could’ve gotten by with just dragging them around our hometown with the wagon that we bought for the occasion and had the same positive results 😂😂😂. Seriously though, I’m very grateful for the chance to literally get away. Hoping that others are having a restful weekend in these chaotic days.
