✨ Lil Treasures #146: James Madison's Flute and Roomba Self-Care
Plus we're barely hanging on!
Well I had great intentions of Q & A this week and then life happened. This is the last week of school volleyball, topping off with a tournament PLUS a soccer match, my parents are in town, and everyone still has emotional needs and homework. So what I hoped to get to, I did not. Next week it is. But we did have some excellent treasures for our time together this go-round, and I hope you enjoy them. I know I did.
Floridians and East Coasters, I have been thinking about you. If you are looking for a great spot to give in order to support the relief efforts as Ian continues to wreck the coast, I am a huge fan of Convoy of Hope. They are doing wonderful work and I love their mission.
May your weekend be long, just cold enough, and deeply restful. Do it for me.
Some good treasures this week!
🐝This portrayal of Beyonce's kids in the future was absolute perfection.
✝️This post from Scott Erickson (Scott the Painter) where he animated different paintings of Jesus made me cry real tears.
👦🏻For anyone out there also parenting little buddies, don’t miss this post about raising kind and empathic boys by Joanna Goddard.
🌯Lots of scandalous stuff going ‘round about Adam Levine but I think the most important news is contained in this video.
🎺I can’t get over Lizzo playing James Madison's crystal flute earlier this week.
🎧One highlight for me recently was getting to hang out with Enneagram expert and actual saint Suzanne Stabile when she came through town recently for the The Enneagram Journey Toward Wholeness Tour. My friend Jamie and I also got to have a fun conversation on her podcast The Enneagram Journey and it was so lovely! If you want to hear us talk all about repressed feelings with Suzanne, you can listen here!
🫠Anne Helen Petersen (one of my favorite authors on Substack) started a project during the pandemic where she interviewed hundreds of different mothers from all over the world who have been pushed to the breaking point in various ways. She is hosting this project on Scribd and you can read The Mom’s Are Not Alright free for 30 days at this link!
This week’s Tweets:
It’s been a pleasure, friends! Thanks for being here. I can’t wait to bask in your treasures in the comments.
Y’all I’ve watched this enough times that I’m pretty sure AT&T is about to cut my internet speed. Pls enjoy or at least don’t judge me for cry-laughing https://www.instagram.com/tv/CjJ3hlRp68I/?igshid=Y2ZmNzg0YzQ=
I got back from the UK on Sunday. It was such a good trip, national mourning and all. I did manage to come down with a horrendous cold 48 hours before departure, so that was less of a good time. But, I had mostly gorgeous weather, got to see a dear friend from vet school (twice!), and between the cold meds and the sleep meds, had no jet-lag whatsoever.
I was extremely worried about the rodents in my walls (eventually diagnosed as rats) taking the opportunity of no human and no dog to breech the defenses and storm the house, but that thankfully did not happen. They're still around, but things seem to be improving. I finally got to talk to the exterminator myself yesterday (this has all been run through the landlord), and he seems confident that he will eventually prevail, by hook or by crook.
I may have an opportunity to go full-time at my main job sooner than I had anticipated. I'm meeting with my boss on Monday and I really have no idea which way it's going to go. I'm really hoping that it works out, because benefits, but it would mean that I would have to cut back at my other job, which I would definitely feel guilty about because they are SO short-staffed and I'm finally getting enough of a handle on everything to feel like I'm actually helping.
