š„¤Lil Treasures #165: Milkshakes and Holding Your Tongue
We're talking renaissance women and parenting fails
My friends!
January did us a disservice and dragged on per usual, but February is running away from me already. How many days are in this month this year? When do we leap? I am never completely certain. I am also perplexed by the construct of time because Iām pretty sure we just finished our Lent study from last year but alas, it is time to begin again!
So, deep breath, here we go. Lent is happening! Weāre doing this! You can join in on the fun in 2 different ways:
āWithin a community
Weāre taking Ecclesiastes for another spin this year with the study Every Broken Thing, but this time alongside friends and fellow Lil Swipes! (In 2020 it was only available in digital format. Look at us advancing!)
You can be a part of the Lent study by joining Lil Swipes+., which will give you access to a daily reading, meditation or prayer every day of Lent that will be sent straight to your beautiful inbox. This option will only exist behind the paywall, but if you want to come along and donāt have the extra cash to support that right now, send me an email at hello@erinhmoon.com and Hannah and I will add you to the group! Zero worries, ever.
āOn your own
Every Broken Thing is also available on my online store! You can purchase your own digital version of the study with all itsā resources included at this link. For anyone on this corner of the internet, you can get also get a nifty 20% discount with the code LILSWIPES.
As someone who has a slight obsession with the liturgical calendar, I am honored to be walking through this season with you. God always seems to press into the cracks and crevices of my heart during this time, and I am full of anticipation for how He will guide me (and you) through this process again.
I hope you join either way!
Make room for the treasures:
šOh, just me after any minor inconvenience. Chicken nuggets are my entire personality.
šThe Super Bowl is this Sunday which means we get to experience our girl Rihannaās re-emergence at the halftime show. If you want to pre-game this experience, go watch this video.
š„I canāt stop thinking about this post by Emily P. Freeman. A complete change in perspective.
šÆIf you need a good appetizer to add to your snack lineup for this weekend, these folded crispy buffalo chicken wraps from Half Baked Harvest are the best!
š¤¦š»āāļøThis is such an excellent post about parenting fails and the recovery moments that can happen afterward.
ā These are the kind of thoughts that cross through my mind on a daily basis.
šMorgan Harper Nichols wrote this beautiful poem about her experiences being autistic and it is just so lovely.
This weekās Twitter roundup:
Gwandy (my parentās celebrity couple name, obviously) is here for the weekend and thereās so much to do! Lots of excitement in the Moon household.
I canāt wait to about your treasures and weekend plans in the comments. See you soon!
May I just say...this community is a delight? Oh my word. I so look forward to the email prompt landing in my inbox every Friday! I've been lurking but here we go...
š„I don't usually take time to watch movies but I've streamed a few lighthearted movies in the last few weeks. I've decided that I am here for any B movie that J-Lo does. I never followed her music but after watching a few movies, I want her to be my best friend.
šØāš©āš§āš§ Along the vein of parenting post Erin shared, over the last few months, my daughters, 23 and almost 17 have been dropping beautiful truth bombs lately. My oldest is in law school and is out on her own now but she spends every Saturday with us (her significant other is wrapping up his degree at Oxford...we are on borrowed time.) Friends, adult children/nearly adult children are a delight. So often they'll share a memory and I'll tell them how I thought I was such a loser parent in that time because x, y or z and they're all "Wait, what? We loved it when you let us put our feet in the fountain at Logan Square at 9:30 at night that time..." It doesn't always work out that way. I still get a metric ton of attitude for not reading the mind of the kid that's still at home, but I'll take the little gems they share.
š§ Need to figure out how to make an amazing queso to take to small group (those who don't watch the Super Bowl). I live in Amishland so queso isn't really a thing here. Suggestions?
š Christmas was kind of a grief-bomb for me. I was in a fog and didn't manage the season well. This weekend, I'm making Valentine's Day gifts for my church staff co-workers. Not really a V-day theme but a good excuse to make a gift and share a treat since they were so kind in December.
Really enjoing this community!
šŖMy biggest treasure this week is being able to come home from the hospital with my daughter. Thank you to the fellow lol swipes who have been praying for her. She's got a lot ahead, but she also has an army of people ready to fight with her
š±Another treasure is being able to play in the dirt and FINALLY start some veggie seeds for our farm's spring plant sale. Soil therapy is so relaxing for me, and eventually ends up in me getting paid instead of the other way around. š¤£
šøThe treasure I'm excited for is a new photography business. I'm going to use my past experience as a pro photographer and a vegetable market farmer to start a biz that helps small farms better promote themselves on social media through photos that tell their story and are optimized for websites and social media. Just gotta get the new camera! (Tech has changed SO much since my digital SLR days! šµāš«)
šSadly, this is my last lil treasure for awhile. Since I'm not working the farm full time we're cutting back on expenses and internet subscriptions didn't make the cut. Once the photography gets going, this will be the first one I add back!
Thank you Erin for this incredible community. Even the weeks I haven't responded, reading through the comments is so uplifting... And the newsletter itself has been a great way to get some levity in a heavy season. š
