📺Lil Treasures #169: The Ruby Jubilee and Trash TV
We're also talking okay white sharks and Christian book endorsements
Hello hello,
I hope your Friday has welcomed you in like a delightful warm cup of tea.
It’s March, and this month I am turning the big 4️⃣ 0️⃣! I am trying to remain very cool and neutral about it.
When Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her 40th year of reign in 1992, they called it the “Ruby Jubilee”, so I’ll definitely be using the same term for my celebration this year 👸. If you’re nearing 40 or have surpassed this milestone, I’d love to hear about some of your fun plans or the best parts about being in your 40s! I have some hopes and goals for this decade but your thoughts and opinions are like gold to me so please share if you feel so inclined.
I am grateful for these four decades and look forward to the next four! Until then though, we have treasures to discuss!
This week’s treasures:
🙅🏻♀️I shared an excerpt from this article on Instagram earlier this week, but in light of some recent internet mishaps, this article from Katelyn Beaty called the Problem with Christian Book Endorsements is such a good read.
💬Could not stop laughing at these inspirational quotes from a teenage daughter. Let me know if you have your own version of these inspiring quotes in the comments 🙃
🥘Bake me right into these delicious Crockpot Garlic Butter Chicken Meatballs with Creamy Orzo from HBH.
🎧If you’re working through Lent and need some tunes to keep you company in your daily reading, here’s a link to my trusty Lent playlist!
👂In celebration of all women and especially in lieu of Women’s History Month, here are some phrases all the young girls in your life could stand to hear.
📷THOROUGHLY ENJOYED this photoshoot of Jonathan Majors and Michael B Jordan that was shot recently for an article in the New York Times about Creed III.

I turn 40 next year and I've already started planning. I'm going to have a 20 X 2 party and theme is going to be 2004. Weird, early aughts fashion, a MySpace Top 8 photo booth, Garden State and/or Jackass playing in the background, a playlist swinging wildly from Usher's Yeah to the Shrek soundtrack. This feels like the dumbest decade for a theme, but I am SO excited!
I turn 40 this month too. I’ve contemplated how to celebrate, but the email and comments encouraged me to make a plan. A friend chose to have sex every day for 40 days leading up to her 40th birthday. 🫣☺️ She raved about how amazing it was for her and for their marriage. But my hubby works 8/14 nights so that seemed unrealistic.
My husband is very introverted and party planning would be stressful (and honestly prob not turn out great). I have a history of not taking care of myself (to an extreme of seizures caused by stress and exhaustion) and I’ve been learning to do better these last couple of years (without feeling guilty). So this is a perfect opportunity to practice self care. What will make me feel happy, special, rested, loved? I don’t care about a big deal celebration but I want it to be sweet. My hubby works my birthday weekend so we will do a lunch date before he goes back while the kids are at school. Pizza on my birthday (always a splurge with our budget and a family our size) so that’s special to not have to cook. I will probably bake whatever I’m in the mood for because I enjoy baking if I’m not cooked-out. Then a family celebration on his next work break complete with favorite desserts I am ORDERING (never done before bc SPLURGE! but I am worth it!). I made a specific gift list and gave myself permission to buy anything I don’t receive. It’s just a few reasonable things that I value, and I don’t need others to understand or value them too. I’m learning to be clear in my expectations and communication and then not take it personally if I don’t get the response I hoped for. I can take care of myself.
