š§Lil Treasures #171: How to Be a Cool Aunt and Meeting Prince
We're crashing a singles shower today!
Greetings, friends!
A very happy Friday to you and yours. Iām sailing into my last weekend in my 30s harnessing this kind of energy (just with differing decades) (also @kateboyd.co on Instagram is a new fave follow):
This weekās newsletter is dedicated to all my single ladies (and fellas).
Hereās why: Kelly Wolfe started a thread on Twitter dedicated to showering our single peers who never had a wedding shower, an event that has helped so many of us marrieds expand our kitchen and household supplies. This idea was birthed from a Let it Matter podcast episode that will air this Monday where she will talk at length about it!
I am still using some of the stuff I received at those showers a thousand years ago and know that any unmarrieds need a casserole dish just as much as I do. So I wanted us to join forces with Kelly to boost the signal of her idea. If you want to join in and give a gift, search #Singlesshower on Twitter to see a few wish lists and make someoneās day via a pie plate or a storage basket š§ŗ And while weāre at it, if you had a wedding shower/tea at some point in your life, let me know the most bizarre thing you received:
I think mine was a very nice, hand-embroidered bathroom towel. Can someone tell me what weāre supposed to do with these? Use them? Are they only for decoration? Help. Happy gifting!
Also this week I wanted to start something new and Iām creatively calling it This Weekās Question (I actually accidentally just typed This Queekās Westion, so maybe thatās what weāll call it). I ask the āgram for questions (otherwise known as westions) and I will answer one. It can be silly or serious or whatever. Itās pretty self-explanatory. So, without further ado:
The Queekās Westion
āWhatās your Hatch routine? I just got one, and Iām obsessed.ā ā @amandabillings
The way I have to baby my whole self before bed is starting to get ridiculous, but itās working, so I guess I have to keep doing it until Jesus calls me home. What if I was born in the 1800s? How would I have functioned without a foam roller, a smart alarm, Airpods, Delta 8? This is why everyone died before they turned 40.
Yes, I have a Hatch, but itās only one aspect of my bedtime routine, which I will now walk through with alarming detail.
Get water, take gummy, wash face, put on a mask and whitening strips.
While mask is masking and strips are whitening, I read 30 minutes of a book (right now Iām reading Curveball by Pete Enns - itās excellent).
Sometimes Baby Cy will snuggle with me in the big chair while I read (even though he says I look weird) and he listens to a Calm Sleep Story.
Remove beauty enhancers and finish the skincare routine.
Turn on Hatch routine which consists of:
Alpine Afterglow (no sound) for 30 minutes ā I usually read a little more and I also use the Read function on my Endel app with Airpods.
By Candlelight (no sound) for 45 minutes ā this is Two Dots time and I change the Endel app to Relax. This is also about the time the gummy starts to work its magic.
Then I go into Pink Noise (no light) for the rest of the night. I either listen to an audiobook or use Endelās Sleep function in my Airpods to drift off.
Is it extra? It is. Am I using like five different apps? Sure am. Do I look forward to it when I wake up? I do.
Now for this weekās treasures:
š My favorite therapist-writer Aundi Kolber has a new book that was released this past week about the true meaning of strength, and practical ways to find flourishing in the midst of difficult times. I know for me personally, I will be reading this book now and most likely will go back to it repeatedly when I need to be reminded of how to function in hard seasons. You can buy Aundiās book, Strong Like Water: Finding the Freedom, Safety, and Compassion to Move through Hard Things at this link!
š I am imprinting this video of Matt Damon talking about meeting Prince on my heart forever. And also will use this phrase as often as I can. Does anyone elseās family randomly quote YouTube videos? We like to say: āThe siney guy always worriesā and āwe blowed it up togetherā from this one. Also, this video is fifteen years old WHAT IS TIME.
š The wonderful Shannon Evans has a new book out called Feminist Prayers for My Daughter. Mothers/aunts/friends/women/daughters, GO BUY THIS BOOK! The book was released this week but you can still pre-order at a discount for a limited time or order on Amazon if thatās your fancy.
āļø If youāve been following along, weāre coming up with some really cool resources over at The Bible Binge! The newest release is called Jesus and Us, all about how Jesus spent the last few days here on earth. If you purchase the guide for $5, youāll receive a PDF of 7 days of Scripture passages, commentary, and questions. You can also sign up to receive daily emails the week prior to Easter if you prefer! Our very own Lil Swipe, the brilliant and creative Libby Gifford, designed this guide and it looks beautiful.
š„“ Hello just your daily reminder that raising a teenager is super fun.
āļø Katelyn Beaty (author of Celebrities for Jesus) just published an excellent article about why most pastors shouldnāt be authors.
Weāve arrived at the tweets!
I donāt know why I waited until my 30s for this, it is a delight
Thatās all for this weekās newsletter, guys. Go treat yo single friends and do me a favor and have the most lovely weekend! See you in the comments!
Hi friends! I am a little behind on reading the newsletters. Have I missed any new info on a Lil Swipes meetup date? š
My MIL-to-be threw me a lingerie shower. Still cringing about it 17 years later. I outgrew all the items I received at some point, and was not at all sad to get rid of them. They were tainted with the memories of the shower, which included awkward games like 'guess how many condoms are in the jar.' Hell on earth for an introverted E9 who didn't actually know most of the people at the shower. GAH.
