🛏️Lil Treasures #173: Don Draper and Mysterious Girls with Early Bedtimes
We're talking about gossipin' and the Pope's recovery
Hello and a happy Holy Week to you! 🖤
Today we take time to celebrate and reflect on Good Friday. It is much easier to breeze past this day because darkness is uncomfortable, and we know that hope is coming in the form of Resurrection Sunday. For me personally, I’ve had the opposite problem this Lent season, feeling trapped in the darkness that Friday holds. It has been a difficult thing to feel stuck in a season that I love and cling to so dearly.
Regardless of how I/you are feeling going into this weekend, I hope that you are filled with all peace and comfort as you consider the many complex ways that Jesus continues to love each of us.
Let’s get to those treasures!
🧑🤝🧑One of our fellow ‘Lil Swipes in the Nashville area alerted me of this post with some tangible ways to help staff at Covenant School, where the school shooting took place last week. This group of folks is putting together some $25-$50 gift cards that will go to all teachers, office staff and custodian staff from Covenant to give them a boost and help provide for them as they continue to grieve and process. You can check out the post on Instagram for more info on how/where to send and specific gift card requests!
🫶I loved everything about Drew Barrymore's recent interview with Jason Ritter and Melanie Lnyskey. Drew’s empathy and careful listening, Jason’s honesty, Melanie’s care. It’s just all good and feels very cathartic to watch.
🛏️These tips on how to be a mysterious woman who is also in bed by 9:30 from The New Yorker is all I need in my millennial survival kit right now.
🎧This week, I have two podcast recommendations! The first is the Sanctuary Woman podcast on “Faith In Transition” with Natalie Drew. You can listen to it here on Spotify or find it wherever you get your pods! (tw: suicide is talked about in this episode, so if that is a hard subject for you, maybe skip this one)
🪨My second podcast suggestion for you is the newest episode of I Kid You Not on The Bible Binge, where Meredith Ann Miller and I talked all about the Resurrection just in time for Holy Week! We asked all the good questions (like, who would Jesus be at the Super Bowl?) and broke down the gospel account for all different age groups. It’s the perfect companion for your drive to Easter lunch on Sunday. You can listen to it here!
🙏🏽The accuracy in this post about gossip in the South. SPOT ON.
👩🔬You need to save this list of 10 Christian Women in to Know in STEM! (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) All so incredible smart and such important voices in our current culture.
🍉It’s time for warmer temps and turning anything we can into a salad. Next up for me is this strawberry watermelon salad with burrata from Half-Baked Harvest. You have surely caught on by now that I’m the biggest HBH recipe fangirl and I have 0 qualms about this.
💋This video about guys “making a move” on a date sent me into outer space.
Ready…..set…..tweets!
That’s a wrap for this week’s newsletter, folks! Thank you so much to those of you who participated in our journey of Ecclesiastes for this year’s Lent study. Your comments were honest, compelling and inspiring, and I am so grateful to have experienced this season with you in community.
Got treasures from your week? Make sure to leave them below before you go!
Wishing you well this Easter weekend, regardless of where you are currently in your faith journey. Enjoy the hams!
I have made the strawberry watermelon salad twice! It was the star of our Easter dinner, and raved over at our small group bible study dinner! Thank you!
The line about the official church prayer list being focused on health and wellness sent me.
This video from SNL is fantastic and made me realize that it's kind of a silver lining to evangelical sub-culture to get all the weddings out of the way early: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWclMLWpTEs
New Barbie trailer! Every piece of marketing about this movie raises more questions than it answers, but I know Greta and Margot are gonna live up to the hype: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxBzestuK7s
Things appear to be on track for my grandma to go home this weekend. We're hoping Medicare will cover enough to make home dialysis a feasible option.
Happy Easter to all - I'm planning on spending the weekend inside listening to some recent additions to my vinyl collection and maybe watching Jesus Christ Superstar.
