🧛Lil Treasures #182: Summer School and Appalachian Vampires
Plus baked brie and some ideas for how to be a person
Hello, my beautiful unicorns! 🦄
We have arrived at our blessed Friday. Just wanted to do a little wellness check before we begin, so I’d love it if you could gauge where you are currently (you can even use a 1-10 scale if that suits you). As we speak, are you coasting towards the school finish line, barely hanging on by a thread? Or maybe you’re already living your best summer life at the local pool with your kids, achieving sun goddess status and destroying some popsicles and mom talk. There is a strong possibility you could also be OVER IT already, annoyed by the chaos and the gnats and the swamp butt. Let me know how you’re feeling in the comments!
Regardless of where you find yourself, I hope this newsletter brings a bit of joy to your day. I saved all the good stuff just for you, shall we get started?
My favorite treasures from the week:
🍦These Say No To Things punch cards are essentially the adult version of Summer Reading at the library, and I’m absolutely here for that prize at the end.
🚗Today is our fellow Lil Swipe and dear friend Karis’ birthday! I would love to celebrate Karis today by sharing this GoFundMe that has been created in hopes of buying her a car. She has been without a vehicle for the last few years and we’d love to help her get access to one again. Happy birthday, Karis! Y’all show her the love today; she’s always so encouraging and kind and thoughtful and obviously we need more people like Karis on the roads. ❤️
🏞️Absolutely loved following this father/son journey on the Camino de Santiago. Also in my dreams I want to do this trail, but in my body I wonder if my legs could hold me up. Has anyone ever completed this trail before? PLEASE LET US KNOW.
🧛Dying at this Appalachian version of Twilight. Also while we’re on the subject of vampires, this tweet!
✏️For those of who you love school (and even those of you who don’t) The Bible for Normal People is hosting summer school starting at the end of this month! Normally I would not suggest studying in summer times, but the content sounds amazing. Subjects include: the end times described in John's Revelation, a survey of Black Theology with an emphasis of discussing heaven and hell through the lens of the oppressed, and Universal Salvation in Historical and Systematic Perspective.
👕My daughter Holland is back at it again with her summer drop over at xonation! All of the products are dreamed up by her beautiful brain, and any money made from the sales will go exclusively towards financing her international school trip next year.
🍓Looking for the perfect summer appetizer for your friend hangs? I’m putting this recipe for strawberry balsamic baked brie on my list for the next time I host!
📝I stumbled across this brilliant idea from a mom who is holding a "How to be a person" camp this summer for her kids. She is teaching them important skills like how to scramble an egg, the best way to wrap a gift, etc. Let’s show these mini humans some ways to contribute to society!
🏺My dear friend Laurel Dawn is one of the most talented artists I know, and she just released a special edition series over at her corner studio called Poetic Mend. First, the paintings are STUN-NING. And second, the series was inspired by a conversation she and I had about taking something broken and creating something beautiful, and that makes me want to weep. Also, if you check out one of her recent Instagram posts, you can also get a super fun discount code if you order this week!
Here are some 5 star tweets from the week ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
Guys, it’s been a pleasure. Thanks for tuning in to this week’s newsletter! I’d love to hear about your treasures and turds below before you go. Hope your weekend is full of super fun plans and even more fun surprises 🫶
Wellness check: 4.5. I’m ok but I’m a year-round teacher and we have EOGs this week. 🫠
Also I wanna know what the meaning behind the lightning bolt is in holland’s store because our mascot is the “lightning” and I would totally wear that hat to outdoor lunch and football games and stuff!
I'm a high school teacher with 2 elementary kids...and school is OUT here in Michigan (famously, where Erin said she would love to live) :). We left after school to road trip to southern Utah, had a brilliant time, saw amazing sights, pooped in pools across the country, and we are now headed home to REALLY start summer break. Erin, walking the Camino has been a dream of mine too. I'm out of shape and tires, but I love Jesus and believe I might learn something on that walk. Let's goooo! :)
