👶 Lil Treasures #197: Little Baby Biscuits & Lumberjanes
We're talking 100 hair elastics and padsicles
You all really came through last week and gave me some of the best options of college football teams to root for. I revealed my choice on this week’s Popcast episode (it’s in the first five minutes of the ep, so you don’t have to wait for long), if you’re interested.
If you’ve been here awhile, you know when you look under the hood of The Swipe Up, this whole thing is supported by the impeccable work of my integrator, Hannah Gregg. I’ve known Hannah for years and years: we used to work together at a ministry, I witnessed the primordial goo that was her and her eventual husband getting together and celebrated them at their wedding. I adore Hannah, and always in the back of my mind I would think I wish my kids could be around Hannah all the time, that would be the best thing.
Cue the pandemic.
Hannah happened to be job hunting and I happened to need someone to be with my kids while I attempted to continue work. My kids got to be with her every day and now she’s family whether she wants to be or not.
As the pandemic waned, she took over more administrative tasks for me: answering emails, creating templates, setting up my store, mailing lists, etc. She makes this puppy run and I am so grateful. Now she’s the integrator for a lot of your favorite internet creators, like House Peace!
All this to say, Hannah is an absolute treasure and I miss her so much because right now, she’s on maternity leave! A couple of weeks ago, Hannah and her husband welcomed baby Ollie into the world and we are all extremely smitten. I have not had a chance to snuggle that lil baby head yet but MY TIME IS COMING SOON. I asked Hannah if I could share this fun news with you, and she said yes! I mean, just look at this little nugget lump of baby love.
Truly, I die.
In honor of Hannah having the sweetest butter pie biscuit you’ve ever seen in your whole life, share your favorite baby or post-partum or post-adoption or mom tip below, or just feel free to oooooh and aaaaah over Ollie and Hannah’s cuteness. My top two favorite baby tips are:
Get the mom something like nice new pajamas or a massage gift certificate. The baby will get plenty.
For the ladies who do vaginal births, the padsicle was a game-changer. Steal all the giant diapers they give you in the hospital. Every time a nurse comes in, say you need more. Put the ones they give you in your bag, and repeat the cycle until you leave. I mean, you should feel like you could swan dive into them, a la Scrooge McDuck. When you get home, soak the crotch about halfway in witch hazel, then put them all in the freezer. Pop a Percocet, slip into a padsicle, and let the good times roll baby. Your lady bits have never felt so cared for.
Let’s do the treasures!
🛍️ This weekend is my LAST WRITING WEEKEND before I turn my manuscript in and then I will return to being an actual person. I personally think writers talking about the writing process is something only other writers are interested in, so I’ve attempted to not go on and on about it, but boy. Am I ready to get it off my desk, get it off my chest? Yes and no. But as a treat, I did buy the Lazy Genius x Able collab because I love a jumpsuit and Kendra looks so cute in her t-shirt, I really just couldn’t resist. Treat culture is embedded in me.
📡 This week on Faith Adjacent,
, and I walked through the Protestant Reformation and I’ll be honest, the amount of poop will haunt me forever.👕 If you’re on the ‘gram you already saw this, but it’s my duty to tell you aerie’s Lumberjane shirt is back in waffle fabric AND fleece AND they are on sale right now. And my darlings, we have a Wal-mart dupe. I’ve not tried the dupe, but a few Lil Swipes in the DMs have attested to its greatness, so if you also want to give it five stars, please do in the comments! For the aerie ones, I would go down a size from what you normally wear.
The best tweets/grams/threads from this week:
Oh look. David’s done it again. 👇
Okay, off to ensconce myself in a Hilton, sit in my own filth, and stare at a screen for 72 hours! And next weekend is the Popcast Live in Atlanta? Will I see any of you there? Let me know! Until then, farewell my Lil Swipes! Can’t wait to read your treasures!
My advice to first time parents is channel your inner Ross and take EVERYTHING in that hospital not bolted down that you are allowed to take. Find a good nurse to help you navigate. For the price you pay, treat it like a luxury hotel and take all the amenities!
Also, don’t wear your comfy gown to the hospital. Wear their paper sheets. Wait until your water breaks or after birth and you get cleaned up a little.
👋🏼 popping in a week later to say HELLO and thank you guys so much for the warm wishes and rock solid advice! I am nothing without the wisdom of the moms who went before me. So much of this feels like I’m winging it, so I’ll take all of the tips and tricks! Baby Ollie is so snuggly and I am enjoying being his mom even more than anticipated. The sleep is short, but the cuteness and the casseroles people keep bringing us are keeping me sane. Also can confirm, the padsicles are essential.
I’ll be lurking here in the comments for the next few weeks! Love you all!
