🤵♂️Lil Treasures #213: Plastic Bags, Dental Insurance and the Ideal Man
We're talking Victorian widows and emotional support deflecting and jokes
Hello and welcome!
Schools were canceled this week for high winds, a national holiday and winter weather (yes, all in one week), so I come to you today a bit discombobulated. Some of you are still stuck in that icy, kid-filled zone and I just want you to know the comments are here if you need to air some grievances. We stand with you.
However you are approaching today’s newsletter, I’m just grateful you’re here and I have some good laughs and good memes for you if you need a lil cheer. Thanks for being here, let’s get to it!
My favorite treasures from this week
🦷 Ayo Edebiri (Sydney in The Bear) is all of us in this interview from The Emmys. Check on your moles, people!
✉️ A screenwriter wrote this letter to his daughter as she was approaching her 18th birthday and I felt personally victimized and very emotional reading it. I loved the part that read, “…we shall never be able to reward you adequately for having entered our lives.” 🥹
💀 If you missed the memo, Lent is coming and we’ve got big plans! For 2024 we will be examining the viewpoint of memento mori - “remember that you must die”. If you want to be a part, you can join me in the Swipe Up+ community for the study for $6 a month, or check out the Lent resources on my store if you want to go at your own pace.
As a paid subscriber, you’ll get devotionals in your inbox 4 days a week for the duration of Lent, as well as a copy of the digital guide and the company of some beautifully-minded people to process through the text with. If you have questions about anything Lent-related, you can always shoot me an email at hello@erinhmoon.com and I’ll be happy to help!
😊 If you wrestle with finding happiness in the midst of suffering, you should listen to this episode of the Getting Curious podcast with Jonathan Van Ness called How Can We Be Happier in 2024? JVN talks with guest Gretchen Rubin on how can we press into happiness even in the midst of injustice, war, hardships, etc.
🥒 Thank goodness someone is finally admitting that this is actually the man of our dreams.
🕯
’s Book Theologizin’ Bigger came out this week and I’m FEASTING over this thing. While you’re waiting for your copy, please read this delightful Substack Trey wrote this week. Actually, if you’re interested in theology at all, follow all of Trey’s things in all the places. One of my favorite theologians today.🤧 If you need a palate cleanser for your Friday, go watch this compilation of wholesome Mr. Rogers moments. It’s just the purest thing!
💪 Lean in, my friends. Something I’ve been rallying behind for years is now being published in this article admitting that oldest sisters are the backbone of society.
❓ We’re tackling some good questions this week on the newest episode of Faith Adjacent called Ask A Bible Scholar. If you’ve ever been curious about left-handed people in the Bible or if women or single men can be elders, cue up that episode, baby!
🔥 Can’t get this out of my head and now you won’t be able to either. You’re welcome.
Let’s do the Memes!
We’ve arrived at the end of this week’s newsletter, my friends. Don’t forget to sign up for the Lil Swipes Palentine’s Day gift exchange by next Friday! Stay warm and cozy this weekend, folks! See you in the comments 👋
School was closed for us in mid-Michigan on Wednesday due to the wind-chill (-6) and there was a snow day last Friday due to a severe winter storm that didn't end up rolling in until 3:30pm. 🙃 I did a lot of 'When I Was A Kid'-ing because I grew up on Lake MI and we didn't get snow days unless there was like a foot of snow AND wind AND ice. IT'S FINE! But our kiddo had a great time doing crafts and makeovers of the kid area of the basement. It's a wonder what a creative, only child can accomplish with cardboard boxes, a hot glue gun, and a dream.
I'm curious: how does the energy of an only child who is female compare with that of an oldest daughter? I'm an only child who was raised by an oldest daughter and feel a deep kinship with them, and would like to see a ven diagram of traits, lol.
I stayed up last night finishing A Rover's Story by Jasmine Warga and crying through the last thirty pages. It's such a lovely middle grades book - especially if you get as emotionally attached as I do to the real Mars rovers!
