🐛 Lil Treasures #227: Bookworms and Cheesy Chicken Rice
We're talking Dua Lipa, Mario Kart theology and daily pep talks
Happy Friday, everyone! 🪩
We have entered the month of May (cue daunting music) and I am trying to carb up to make sure I have the endurance needed for all of the scheduled activities ahead. Who’s with me?!
No attempt from me at a clever intro today, I’ll let the treasures speak for themselves.
Let’s jump in!
😵💫 Every stage of parenting has a different set of struggles, but I do believe these teen years might destroy me. If you don’t believe me, go take a look into what it’s like to parent a teen.
👩🏽🍼 I have always loved the image of God as a mother, full of compassion and tenderness and care. If you feel the same way, go read David Gates’ recent poem called Holy Mother. David will also be posting a whole host of poems about mothers leading up to Mother’s Day (May 12), so make sure you follow him on Instagram if you want to stay in the loop!
🪇 There’s not much that the ambiance of a Mexican restaurant and an order of cheesy chicken rice can’t solve.
🦈 If you’re trying to keep *the spark* alive in your marriage, here is one idea. And if that doesn’t work, definitely try this.
🥒 It’s getting hot, which means it’s time for cold-food summer. The first recipe I’m trying is this Trader Joe’s chickpea, feta and cucumber salad. Get in my belly.
⛪️ This week on The Swipe Up+, I shared a post about what to do when your faith community disappoints you, and how to move forward. Be a part of the conversation by joining us behind the paywall for only $6 a month!
📖 Am I hanging my a thread more than I’d like to admit? Yes. Am I counting on my current obsessions (the fairy books, Taylor, etc etc) to keep that trend going? Also yes. Naturally, my friends are keeping a close eye.
🎧 The positive chokehold this song (and the entire movie soundtrack, tbh) has on me. Instant mood-booster.
👩🎓 Anne Helen Petersen did it again with her new essay called The College Student Keeps the Score, which addresses some of the student protests that are happening across the globe and the deferred grief that current college students are still dealing with.
📣 I would be wallowing in misery much more if it weren’t for Ben Moon and his daily pep talks that go a lot like this.
🍄 To round out this week’s treasures, don’t forget about the newest episode of Faith Adjacent! We’re talking through TTPD, digging in to Mario Kart theology, and hashing out some other fun (and spicy) content that you don’t want to miss. You can listen here!
The Memes!
And that should do it for this week’s internet goods! Can’t wait to see you in the comments. Until next time, party people!
That Joseph Fasano inspired poem got me to follow him on Twitter and request his book for my birthday gift. Wow!!! The work he shares convinces me that truly anyone can tune into what makes poetry.
That tweet about "I wrote a thing" tho - I did NOT need to be called out like this on a Friday morning. 🤣
In the vein of "only allowing things to consume my entire soul" my husband and I got VERY into the WNBA over covid. Here is a treasure that is basically a PowerPoint presentation of "Who Should You Cheer For Based Entirely On Vibes" for anyone curious (esp now that people are jumping on board thanks to Caitlin Clark): https://www.robocoko.com/fan-guide
