🍳 Lil Treasures #70: Reconstructing and Washing a Cast Iron Skillet
Plus skincare, makeups, and a turtle witnessing history
Greetings, pals! I got my first round of the vaxx this week, so truly, nothing can bring me down (what am I saying, I cried thrice this week). I took a moment to thank the science and logistics and divine appointment it took to deliver that little miracle into my arm. So grateful for smart people and Jesus.
Shall we Q & A real quick?
Q: What are your favorite hair products, make-up and/or skincare items right now? - @carryelouise
A: First of all, if I may: it is hilarious to me that this person👇 is being asked about her favorite beauty products. Let’s just sit with that for a moment.
I have an Amazon list of my ride or dies here, but what I’m loving right now is as follows:
Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleanser - as someone with pores the size of the holes they carve into redwoods in order for cars to drive through them, I’m constantly digging gunk out of my face. I really do feel as though this has made a difference.
Function of Beauty Shampoo and Conditioner - One day, Jamie walked into the office and her hair was shining like a mermaid. She gave this shampoo and conditioner credit. I got the wavy type and added a no-frizz serum to the system and have just been thoroughly enjoying its magic on my hair.
Kristin Ess Weightless Shine Air Dry Creme - This and the mousse are helping me avoid blow drying my hair, which is honestly all I care about right now. Please do not make me blow dry my hair.
NARS Liquid Blush - I balked at trying a liquid blush because let’s be honest, sometimes we don’t think we have the skillset for such things as moving from the powder to a liquid. This lasts FOR-EV-ER (I bought it in September and I’m not even halfway through the bottle) and it’s so pretty behind my mask. 🤪
Olive & June Nail Strengthener - I know. I have a problem. But this stuff seriously works. My nails are brittle and constantly breaking, but I kept this on them for a week and wow. Take all my money, O&J!
Q: What is helping you reconstruct? - @elizziebethanne
A: Time. Time is giving me the grace and the space to inspect all the pieces I’ve ripped out of the walls. What stays? What goes? I’ve been examining and trying to remember the reasons something was in my house in the first place. What stays? What goes? I’m urgent, but not hurried. I’m learning to be okay when I’m wrong, to apologize. To push past my instincts and ask questions. But mainly, it’s time. I don’t have to have it all figured out this instant.
Some Treasures, Yes?
🤝 There’s a lot of chaos going on at the border these days, and it is heartbreaking to watch it unfold. Regardless of your stance, I think it’s important to acknowledge that things are a mess and that the systems in place are broken. There are many ways we can extend love and compassion towards these refugees at our borders, but one way you can help this week is to support migrant youth who are being bused into San Antonio here!
🏞️ My family and I spring breaked so hard this past week in Blue Ridge, GA. It was a magical time and so restful! I got to indulge my passion for traveling by train and it was as lovely as I’d hoped. My friend Courtney over at All The Best Days was the brainchild behind the planning of this trip - and I highly recommend her if you’re looking for a vacation-planning genius.
✝️ Pauline and Geoffrey receiving a Maundy gift from the Queen of England is the real highlight of my week if I’m being honest.
Some tweets? Some tweets!

If you observe and celebrate Holy Week, I hope you meet Jesus. Christ is risen (or He will in a couple of days)!
The kid with the small telescope 😆😆😆 I’m slightly afraid one of my little wild women may grow up into a child with a small telescope.... earlier this week, I was sitting on the floor, playing with the kids, felt something wet on my leg, looked down and saw oldest wild woman licking my leg.
Me: “Hey Cora! Uh, why are you licking my leg?!”
C: “Cause I like it!” gives my leg a pat, pat, and walks away like nothing happened.
Other treasures this week:
💗watching the governerds rally around Carlos Whitaker’s family this week. I cried so many times. (Also- there’s gotta be so much overlap with the governerd-lil’ swipe demographic!)
💉 I have my first vaccine dose scheduled for Monday night. I cried with just making my appointment so I’m sure I’m gonna be a MESS on Monday.
👵🏻 I get to see my grandma tomorrow morning for the first time since Feb of last year! (Also cried a little bit when setting that up... apparently I was very emotional this week 😆). My grandma is just one of the most incredible people I know. After my grandpa died, she travelled the world (retracing Paul’s travels in the Middle East, doing vodka tastings on Russian river cruises, building houses in the Caribbean, etc.), is in a very competitive bowling league (I think her high score is 260?), and the last time i asked her, she had sewn over 10,000 fabric masks. She’s just the coolest and I’m so excited to see her tomorrow!
Good morning, beautiful people! My treasures today are lengthy but I’m too grateful for each one to not share. Thanks in advance for celebrating with me!
- As I mentioned a couple weeks ago, I am house hunting for the very first time (so ready to stop renting!) And the biggest challenge was finding a space that could fit me and two of my younger sisters who are ready to move out of my parent’s house, and ideally have a room for one of my dear friends who needs to move soon. All I could find that fit that criteria in our area were literal mansions or “hey, could one of y’all live in this big closet??” Until last Saturday. I found THE house. I went to view the house. I immediately put in an offer on the house. And then calmly waited to be rejected, as I had been before. BUT THEY ACCEPTED MY OFFER! And now me and three of my very best friends get to live in a house I will OWN. And it’s just giving me all kinds of hope in a season that hasn’t carried much hope recently. I close at the end of April and am so excited!
- Remember when I shared about Real Life Crush, the boy I met through mutual friends (not the ether of online dating)? And remember how we had great chemistry and hung out in groups for a bit and then he kinda disappeared into a Single Introverted Enneagram Five hovel? Well...he came back out of his bunker...and I finally asked him out...AND HE SAID YES! And who knows if this will go anywhere but I’m proud of myself for not throwing away my shot. We’re going out tonight, so, wish me luck!
- The girls trip I go on every year with my sisters and mom starts tomorrow and I am SO ready for a chair in the sand, an adult beverage in one hand and a book in the other.
