⛪️ When Your Faith Community Disappoints You
Toddler temper tantrums, melting popsicles, and finding everyone's humanity
The other day I got a DM highlighting the conundrum of dealing with church disappointment (shared with permission, although I’ve changed some of the identifying details):
“Hey Erin — this is loaded and may be triggering, but I’m wondering how you deal with repeated disappointment in the greater church? My cousin is a pastor and her senior pastor is an asshole to her. My wife and I have friends who have two children with autism and their church basically told them to find a new church or they would need to be in Sunday school with them at all times because they didn’t have the capacity to support them. I work for a para-church organization and people are dicks to me all the time. My best friend is a deacon and he’s constantly being shit on for just doing what he was asked to do. I’m pissed I’m called to live in faith-based community sometimes. How do I deal?”
