We’re a little late, but Lil Treasures made it for the week! I have literally consumed almost zero content this week, prepping for the Lent guide to make its way into your hearts and inboxes, but I do have a few lil nuggets to share. I cannot wait to see what you guys have!
🇺🇸 Politics aside, nothing brings me the kind of joy I received watching Elizabeth Warren assault Mike Bloomberg with some BIG TEACHER ENERGY during the debate the other night. It reminded of me of when, in the 8th grade, Mrs. Kuhlman (the best English teacher there ever was) absolutely ripped Colby C. for being apathetic about his essay for The Most Dangerous Game, destroying him in a way that probably could not be done now for lawsuit reasons but that he richly deserved (and needed). This is not an endorsement for her as my candidate, but it is an endorsement for her as someone I’d love to speak on my behalf to Customer Service. I love Big Teacher Energy - the bell doesn’t dismiss you, I dismiss you. You love to see it.
🥖 People who love bread as much as I do are MY PEOPLE.
👜 Obviously, Geoffrey and Pauline are EVERYTHING. If you missed my stories dedicated to them this week, I do hope you’ll follow them. The absolute purest angels in this world.
And just a reminder that Lent begins next week! Lil Swipes get 20% off with code SWIPEUP, so jump on that to save some coin. Love you guys, mean it. Can’t wait to see what treasures you’ve got this week!
My life is kinda crazy right now. Some big trips planned over the next five months and then a big move. And as an enneagram 4 I need time and space to feel my feelings, which is hard when life is crazy. But the cold wet days give me my space to be melancholy. So right now I am taking the time to do a hard puzzle and listen to the rain and try to bring order to this puzzle because doing so in my life is real hard!
Geoffrey & Pauline!! A gf of mine started following them a good bit back and shared one of their posts in her IG stories. I was hooked from then on. When Geoffrey posted a vid of Pauline crying over the theft of her purse, it made me want to hop on a plane and fly across the pond to deliver a hug. But that's also possibly stalking, so I stayed home.
Here in N.C. we're having a snow day! I'm a transplant from OH, so I am here for any snow day that involves wfh in pj's when it's really not bad outside and will melt by the end of the day.
Don't have any fun content to share, but I'm always really thankful for this thread. Feels like dessert.
Currently enjoying my Friday taking sick time because I'm one of those people that feels guilty AF taking care of herself, but I bit the bullet and did it.
This week I'm on a graphic novel kick - Lucy Knisley (https://www.instagram.com/lucyknisley/) has a few beautiful and poignant memoir ones - Displacement: a Travelogue was touching and deal with facing the reality of aging loved ones so so well.
Thoughts and Opinions on TATBILB2fast2furious: I started it last Saturday, got only so far and then felt the overwhelming urge to bake homemade poptarts (thanks LJ) and then never came back. So that's my review. The story wasn't urgent enough for me to need to finish it. (of course, I've already read the books)
The poptarts were amaze-balls. They came in handy for paying the Boy when he provided body-guard services to sketchy walmart after my front door knob broke off in my hands late sunday evening. Like LJ, baking is my love language, and I too, love a pensive bake. Or a prayer bake, or a good old stress relief bread dough kneading. Honestly I just need to write a book of baking liturgies. Would anyone be down for that?
Erin, I seriously thought you were talking about Bread, the lite rock group before I clicked the link!! LOL! I was thinking "Shoot yeah! Erin knows what's up!!" Then I saw the baguette. I'm old!!
I’ve made a commitment to Read My Shelves in 2020, both print and digital, and this week was ”Robogenesis” by Daniel H Wilson. It’s a sequel to ”Robopocalypse”, which rocked my world several years ago and convinced me to read more science fiction despite not appreciating it as much as other genres. Though it’s not as good as the first one, reading “Robogenesis” was all-consuming as I struggled through a week of lethargy and general all-around feel-bads. The tone of a world war against a mean-spirited artificial intelligence was a MOOD and a surprising respite from my weariness.
Additionally, I discovered the browser app DuckDuckGo, which allows me to read ALL THE THINGS from The New York Times and Washington Post et al without hitting the dreaded paywalls. Since my inbox is full of a gajillion newsletters from all my favorite Instagrammers, this little app lets me read everyone’s suggested articles without having to pay for all the random things I find online. If I was a devoted follower of every online news site, I’d be happy to pay for the privilege of reading, but it’s impossible to give cash money to *all the places* that *all the people* want to share with me. DuckDuckGo gives me a workaround, and I get to feel like I’m able to participate in the conversations of those I love to follow.
1. I started playing dinner music that matched our dinner - not always, but when the moment feels right. Butter chicken? Alexa, play Bollywood on Spotify. Bibimbap? Alexa, play KPop on Spotify. Etc. Etc. Etc. It just adds a fun vibe to family dinner.
2. Hulu just got Good Eats: Reloaded and the hubs and I watched the first episode this week and I am here for it. Alton Brown has always been my fave Food Network personality, and watching 90s Alton, then current Alton interrupting to correct something is just delightful television.
3. I love Lent and all the Lent things. Sarah Bessey sent a newsletter with 40 things to do for Lent, and I loved reading through it and writing down some new things to try, along with Every Broken Thing (so. excited.).
4. Pantsuit Politics Dem debate IG stories - GAH, it brings such joy to such craziness.
5. Planning for summer. I know it is still February, but this homeschool mom messed up last summer with NOT planning enough, which led to too much home time for the first 4 weeks and then trying to over-compensate the rest of the summer. Also, it is giving me something to look forward to in this crazy winter (anyone else have 60 degree days then -15 days in January and February? Kansas weather needs to quit playing games with my heart.).
6. IG Bookswaps. I love Bookswaps - mostly the buying for someone else, creating a fun package for them to open.
My little treasures this week have been the “Down the Hill” Podcast! It’s very compelling. I also just read the Reese Witherspoon Book Club pick- Conviction by Denise Mina and it was really good! 4/5 stars!
1) watching Erin’s live last night, particularly the last 10 minutes of technology betrayal, truly a delight. Possibly the highlight of my week, which is saying something, because I’ve had a great week.
2) I chopped all my hair off on Tuesday without putting much thought into it. I had long long hair like halfway down my back that had been colored and mistreated and it was dead dead dead, so I chopped it off (in a style very much resembling Erin’s haircut, something I only put together during last nights live stream) and I LOVE IT.
3) Georgia is terrified of temperatures below 34 degrees, so I get to work from home today even though the streets could not be more clear and there is not one single cloud in the sky, and finally
4) my new job. I just started a new job as a foster care case manager at DFCS and, for a job that so many people warned me not to take, I’m really loving it so much. I worked a dead end job I didn’t care about for about 4 years while I was in grad school, getting married, buying a house, etc. and while it served its role in my life, the last year or so I started getting really bummed every day going to a job I didn’t care about. I’ve been at my new job for about a month now, and while it’s a lot and I’m regularly overwhelmed, I love the feeling of waking up excited about work. I’m learning that having a job I care about is very important to me, and I’m so excited about my new career!
The best thing I consumed this week was this week’s Armchair Expert episode with Alison Brie. I love Community and GLOW, but the best part is her telling about how she met and started dating Dave Franco, which is this wild romance. So much fun to listen to!
Sweater Weather Instrumentals playlist is on REPEAT 24/7 over here since my 2 year old discovered the word "no", my 3 year old is now skipping naps, and my 2 month old got her shots. Calm music and vats of coffee for me please.
Do we already know that Jordan Fisher is now THE EVAN HANSON?! https://dearevanhansen.com/cast-and-creative/#broadway https://youtu.be/KsRi-Aj9fQs

Watching Sanditon on PBS! Love me some Jane Austen!
THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART FOR GEOFFREY AND PAULINE. This is all I am using instagram for from now on!💞
Y'all.

1. Geoffrey & Pauline are precious and my 15 yo daughter and I have decided to only say veg-juh-tu-buhls like Geoff.
2. I used bday $ to buy myself an expensive lipstick: MAC Chili, but in their Powder Kiss formula, Devoted to Chili. It is a delight to wear.
3. This twitter thread made my day yesterday re which fruit or veg you can throw the farthest and why: https://twitter.com/baileycarlin/status/1230554535023796224?s=21
4. The George Washington docuseries on The History Channel - it features my favorite #twitterstorian Joanne Freeman and lots of other smart people.

I’m so happy you introduced me to Geoffrey and Pauline. ❤️❤️❤️
Pauline is making new curtains for the front door, today. 😍
