Lil Treasures #121: AC/DC and Birds that Look Like Guy Fieri
Plus Jon Batiste and Jesus takes a nap
Happy Friday to you, I’m so glad you made it! Lots to talk about this week. Let’s go!
First, if you’re tired of me talking about Lady Gaga, you can go ahead and scroll on down.
I am riding hard for LG and her incredible kindness, her decision to take on the role of everyone’s biggest cheerleader, etc. For example, this past week at the Grammy’s, the woman got down ON THE DANG FLOOR and fixed SZA’s long dress when she was struggling on crutches with her long train. And obviously a few things happened at the Oscar’s this year (re: the slap) but don’t miss out on this beautiful clip of Lady Gaga presenting with Liza Minelli. Somehow I missed it until a couple of days ago, and I have now watched it at least five times 🤧
I am enamored with the way that she celebrates Liza in this clip, and is helpful yet not demeaning. I can’t. It’s just so powerful and endearing. It’s enough to restore my hope in humanity for this week, at least.
Alright that’s all the Gaga content I’ve got for you this week, let’s do some treasures!
📣 Here’s a little cheer for all of us normals struggling to stay afloat out there.
🎧 I got to chat with my super smart friend Beth over on the Pantsuit Politics podcast this past week, where we talked about war and how we can take an active part in helping, even when we feel helpless. I hope you get a chance to listen to it!
📗Also, I love Sarah and Beth of Pantsuit Politics and would endorse a paper napkin if they wrote on it, so I encourage you to check out their new book called Now What? How to Move Forward when We’re Divided About Basically Everything. In a time when we all have people in our circles who we feel at odds with about certain topics, this book acts as a gentle captain to show us the way to unify and love in the midst of disagreement. The book will officially be out on May 3, but you can pre-order it now wherever you get your books!
🐕One of the top ways for me to hack-my-cry is to watch videos of dogs reuniting with their owners. This one of a dog reuniting with its owner in Ukraine certainly did the trick.
🍴This perfect duet brought me the most joy!
🏆Jon Batiste won like 40 Grammy awards last week, and I am thrilled because he’s very cool and I really feel like he’s bringing a new level of creativity to the music industry. This post by Priya Parker about Jon and the way he invites people into his music is just so good. I have also since found out that he used to march into the streets with his jazz band after shows? If you need a good YouTube hole to fall into, might I suggest that….
🇺🇦 I have told you before about my friends Madison and Yura Perekotiy from Ukraine, who came back to the U.S. for a scheduled trip right before Russia invaded. They have been leveraging their resources here to help their friends and community back home until they can go back. Some of you have helped contribute to their War Relief Fund and I am blown away by your kind hearts and generosity! Madison also just put together a couple of Amazon lists to help meet some of those needs if you are looking for more ways to be a part of relief efforts from here at home. This list is for items that Yura is taking to Ukraine in May, and this list is for items that can ship directly to a partner in Germany and then be delivered to Ukraine.
Okay, now on to the Tweets!
This adorable Tweet from LeVar Burton at the Grammy’s:
Alright pals, I can’t wait to hear all about your spring breaks (if you had them) and see what your treasures are for this week! Hope to see some of your glowing faces this weekend for the Popcast Live shows in Chicago and Seattle! I’d like to thank my sponsors for this weekend, Chicago hot dogs, Icy Hot and Xyzal allergy medication. Thank you to all three for keeping me alive and well. Have a great weekend everybody!
Hi sweet lil swipes! It's been a hard and hopeful week for me and I am always amazed at how those two things can fit together.
I've been on spring break from my preschool job and also one family that I nanny. I was able to fit some reading, some house cleaning, and some family hang time in this week which was so restorative.
I was able to get my car back - it was at the body shop for three months after I hit a deer in December. Every single part they needed was back ordered so we've been playing a very long, exhausting game of musical chairs. I was thrilled to get my car back on Wednesday and then deeply frustrated to find out it needed a new battery that we didn't really have the money for but I put our need in the We Got You Club spread sheet and I had money in my venmo only hours later. I may have cried, just a bit.
It has been a very long, hard few years for me and my husband as we both walk through mental health landmines and unhealthy coping mechanisms. This week we had a difficult conversation with my in-laws that ended with some financial assistance for treatment and a great weight lifted off my shoulders.
I'm ab bit exhausted, but that seems to be my personality at this point. I've enjoyed the small break but am ready to get back into my routine, especially now that I've got my car back.
I had an absolute day today, with a long, hard day at work followed by an hour of flatpack furniture hell. Surely the more you spend on furniture, the clearer the instructions should be? The trend seems to be the opposite, unfortunately. Anyway I didn't get very far and my new inner mantra became "do not swear in front of your grandmother, you canNOT swear in front of your grandmother." So anyway here are some links:
