A few more things I have stayed away from twitter but yesterday Ally Henny referred to the new owner of twitter as "Peed on Crust" instead of using his name and I howled with laughter. Twitter was a complete mess yesterday and I think it will just continue to be that way.

I am so glad to see the links about our feet and that is all I will say about that LOL. Also yesterday my teen came downstairs smelling so good and I asked her if she had new perfume and she says "Nope it is yours Bath and Body Works "Rose". Lawd help me!

My fellow Texas citizens have voted to reelect a governor who has repeatedly and consistently demonstrated a complete disregard for human life, so we're all fine here, don't worry about us. Also, a federal judge in Texas has ruled the student debt relief plan unconstitutional so that's on hold for now. We just can't have nice things, I guess.

A friend and I were talking about that Laura Robinson thread, and there's a lot of good stuff in there, but the biggest thing for me was that I finally put my finger on what specifically bothered me so much about the "smoking hot wife" phenomenon. So, you know, that's a personal breakthrough.

I have some low-grade, chronic ankle/arch pain, and this video is on repeat. I have it in rotation with a few others to do on mornings when I have a late start at work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ea4MF7IqILA&t=22s I also recently bought some Brooks running shoes for work, and they have made a world of difference. They are pricey, but worth it, and you may be able to find them cheaper with New Year's sales coming up.

See, this is why Twitter matters. A friend alerted me to you putting my tweet in your newsletter and now I've subscribed to your newsletter because apparently I don't have enough Substack newsletters in my feed right now 😂

Happy Friday from snowy cold central Alberta! Winter hit with a vengeance on November 1 with a blizzard, add in the time change, and all I’ve wanted to do is stay curled up with a blanket.

As one of the elder Swipes (Gen X represent!) I would add physiotherapy to your foot health program. I’ve gone for years and find it super helpful with chronic back/hip issues. I’m a big fan of intramuscular stimulation (IMS) which is like really targeted acupuncture. Getting your calves needled is the best way to release tight muscles, but wow, it’s hard to walk afterwards.

👟 As far as shoe recommendations, my old feet are happiest in Skechers (especially working on my feet all day), Birkenstocks, Clark’s and Naturalizer. I miss the days of wearing super cute shoes but I don’t miss the achy feet!

⭐️ My treasures for the week are that my kiddo is home from uni for reading week and we’ve been having a blast hanging out. Lots of good food, Fail Army videos on repeat and tons of laughs.

I also found out yesterday that I won our hospital region’s staff 50/50 and it was a pretty decent chunk of change, like enough for us to plan our dream vacation. I’ve only worked there for 2 months so winning was a huge surprise!

Time to curl up with a hot coffee and a good book. Have a great weekend everyone!

Yes to why are our bodies in pain! This year, I have acquired plantar fasciitis from toe to hip and neck/shoulder spasms and now I am in some sort of fatigue flare up that has no clear cause. I'm getting some basic lab work next month hopefully so maybe this time there will be some answers. So frustrating.

Afternoon, Swipes!

Erin, thank you so much for being willing to stay on Twitter and collect the treasures so we don't have to.

- I want to brag on myself for 60 seconds. I went to a strength training class today for the first time ever and we used weights and stuff. I was very scared, but I knew I needed to add something extra into my fitness routine, so I chose a class at the Y and put myself out there. And guess what?! I loved it! The people in the class were so helpful in getting me set up and the instructor took extra time to learn my name and demonstrate all the moves. It was just a lovely experience.

- I'm finally getting to take a breather at work and it is so refreshing.

- Even though things did not go the way I wanted them to on Election Day, it was still nice and a pleasant experience at my polling place.

Question for you married swipes... What are y'all getting your husbands for Christmas??? My husband has everything and doesn't want anything, but I like for him to have gifts to unwrap. What should I do?

Okay, that's it. Can't wait to catch up in the comments!

Somewhat late to the comments this week, but looking forward to trying to catch up. Broken record here, but Erin, those tweets had me laughing out loud. Amen to outlawing The Cat in the Hat; a book this librarian is okay with banning (<- humor disclaimer). Things are chaotic at work right now as somehow we are already closing in on the end of the semester. But on the positive side, so far we are on track with our Low Key Holidays in 2022 plan, in which we scaled back all of our holiday celebrations 75% or more. It's looking like we may be successful in corraling Thanksgiving and Christmas into being more dialed back this year too.

Face palm moment: Was so proud of myself for getting our holiday cards done early. I addressed all the envelopes before realizing that our New Years cards say 2022 on them. However, I have decided that this works, as the pictures represent 2022, and obviously the new years wishes are for the coming new year. Yes? Yes. Good, we all agree this makes sense. (And we will ignore the ethical conundrum of Shutterfly making it possible to buy 2022 New Years cards in November 2022).

My treasure this week is that Mythic Quest is back on tv! Two episodes now and then one weekly (boooo) but I am so pumped. Love this show!

Thank you for sharing these shoes! I'm about to order some. :) Also, I just turned 40. My 39th year was also about getting my sh*t/life together. I figured out that my physical issues were from inflammation and carbonated drinks. I did an inflammation test and started to stay away from foods that caused me problems. And, I almost never drink anything with carbonation now, and I feel sooooo much better.

We are all about that wide to box zero drop life in our house. I actually need new sneakers so I will use your link!

Great tweets as usual. And we *should* get hot dogs! A few treasures from me:

✨️ Our dog had knee surgery in July and after a dramatic reinsurance during a walk last weekend we thought she had blown out the knee again and would be in pain again 😔 and it was all for nought (aaand there goes all that $$$). The vet was able to squeeze us in for a recheck and reassured us the surgery held and that while this may happen from time to time, her knee was in tact, and she is strong, and things are going well. Phew!

✨️ Since we were in SF with a dog without a blown out knee (thank you Jesus) we took the dogs to Golden Gate Park and went on a slow walk up Strawberry Hill past the waterfall. The fog had burned off and it was a glorious fall day for a walk in the lush trees and undergrowth. We all needed it!

✨️ We have an old house with damaged brickwork and in our area it has been hard to find an *actual* mason who can repair and build with brick. Have spent weeks having discouraging searches and conversations (a lot of folks we asked for recommendations told us their mason had died 😔) Buy I have a solid lead and hope to have an inspection this coming week. Yay!

✨️ One of my goofy things is I really want to see a children's choir do a choral version of Ozzy's "Crazy Train". Think sweet sopranos in choir robes hands clasped in front of their diaphragms "Goin off the rails on a crazy train…" my husband and I occasionally look for this on YouTube and we came close! Check out these Cuties. Clearly the boys are having a ball with this one. 🤘 https://youtu.be/p_PAb6ts6xk

We also found this great pandemic virtual choir offering. These folks really got into it with wigs and makeup. One lady singing I to whisks and lint rollers. 😆 https://youtu.be/aHzyr7fIwgY

✨️ And speaking of people's goofy things, we watched Bathtubs over Broadway last night and it was a delight! Towards the end it takes a turn and becomes so poignant and sweet. (Similar to the documentary about The Winebago Man who had no idea how many people genuinely loved him) Now I want to add "My Bathroom" to a playlist. 😆 https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/bathtubs_over_broadway

✨️ I've been enjoying everyone's Autumn playlists and have started to make my own adding songs I've found from them. I have 3 so far and feel like I need a 4th. Autumn in New York - all Jazzy romantic stuff. Delicious Autumn - sweet and slightly bittersweet music for driving country roads to look at leaves. Autumn Harvest for fun bluegrass stuff and maybe some spooky season stuff. But I need one for its raining and you are lonely and don't have a boyfriend and your job sucks. I spent a lot of the 90s in that space so I should have one of those, yes?

Looking forward to reading your trash and treasures. Happiest weekend to you all!

FOOT HEALTH!!!

I learned about this when my husband got an ungodly ingrown toe nail when he was deployed to Afghanistan. It affected everything!! In a crazy way, it also saved his life when he was in country.

Anyway, super important. See your podiatrist.

Hey friends! Today is my Saturday, and I'm trying to rest the heck out of it. It won't work because two kids are home sick, and the kitchen hasn't been truly cleaned in two months, but my goal is to at least finish the Stephen King novel I'm reading.

I've been invited to a friend's fortieth birthday party tomorrow, and she's doing this Favorite Things gift theme, where you bring three of something you really like (there's a $45 total cap). One goes to the birthday girl, and the two others go to other guests, so everyone goes home with a couple of presents. I like the idea of sharing some little thing that you love with your friends, but the enneagram nine in me recoils at the idea of dictating, however loosely, what people should bring to a birthday party. Plus, I'm a slacker, so part of my rest day will be spent trying to figure out what I like enough to buy multiples of.

I've been wearing zero drop shoes for years. Regular sneakers make my lower back hurt, especially when I'm working and on my feet for hours at a time. I started out with a pair of Converse sneakers, and now I wear Merrell Vapor Gloves - Cons have a thick, inflexible sole and I sacrificed quirkiness for the barefoot design. I'm on the lookout for something with a bit of a cushion but still flat. I spend much of my day walking on concrete or tile, and my heels have started hurting when I get up in the morning.

Update for everyone worried about baby Isla, I sent a quick thinking of you text, and she’s okay! She just had a seizure brought on by a high fever from a UTI and she just had to stay at the hospital two days to rule out a kidney infection and neurological disorders, which she didn’t have, thank you Jesus! I’m relieved, parents are relieved, it’s nice to have good news.

Tweets were amazing - YES to the Cat in the Hat. That book is the opposite of the original Grinch movie, where you realize it's only 30 minutes long and as a kid felt like a feature length film. Hard no to Dr. Seuss before bed!

It's a gray, drizzly, leaves scattered all over the yard kind of morning here which is pretty much perfection in my book. Add in the fact that I am listening to Bri McCoy's absolute GENIUS Spotify playlist that scores the best scenes in ACOTR and I am just giddy with delight. If you are a book fan, please do yourself a favor and listen immediately, because she hit it out of the park.

In other book news, I just finished listening to The Invisible Life of Addie La Rue and am onto The Four Winds. I realized that the common denominator in almost all of my favorite audiobooks is that Julia Whalen narrates them, so I grabbed her novel at the library this week and am hopefully going to dive into it this weekend.

Getting your body together - I stopped distance running during COVID d/t my knees and took up Pilates and I have never looked back. I hate group exercise and most virtual workouts, but am a die hard Robin Long (Lindywell/The Balanced Life) fan. So many choices, takes no decision making on my part, and I'm usually done within 20 minutes. Plus my knees no longer ache! Highly recommend.

Looking forward to your treasures and tweets and recipes! We are headed to a scouting service project in the morning and to help keep the kids moving at 8am I am bringing doughnuts and hot chocolate. God bless the poor neighbors who will undoubtedly be woken by a hoard of sugared up kids tomorrow.
