I'm late to this party but had to comment about the procedure. You should (and no worries if you feel like you're already recovered and this is a moot point...it isn't) go into your backyard on a moonlit night with a thong on (and your fuzziest bathrobe--I'm not daft) and light your stockpile of diaper sized pads on fire while you howl and dance (think Betty White in the Proposal). This, friend, is the first day of the rest of your pad-free life!! Enjoy the freedom of standing up with reckless abandon ANY TIME OF THE MONTH...you earned it. Sleep nekkid if you want!!! Wear white after labor day!! Go crazy. Best thing I ever did. That is all.
Re.: Hobbit-Maxxing … As a kid I read J. R. R. Tolkien's LORD OF THE RINGS books and THE HOBBIT, and I was hooked forever. In a gray world of severe teenage depression, the hobbits' tale lifted me out of the fug and I could see the sun a little. I said to myself, "I want this world!" Later, when I read C. S. Lewis's space trilogy, I said to myself, "Now I know where my good place is!" I began to detect the fragrance of God, and my entire soul responded with the memories of good things.
Now I'm a retired college instructor (English writing and communication skills) and writing novels that aim to show others those good things like Tolkien And Lewis did for me. I want to write healing stories, adventures for reading pleasure, mixing God with empirical science (and a little fantasy), and directing souls like mine toward Recovery.
God has granted that I am a traditionally published author now. A reader of my first book in the Soul's Warfare series, THE HOT MARBLE, encouraged me by saying, "I could see light at the end of my darkness." Yay!
God has also granted me another thing: I am a spiritual hobbit on a writing quest! Mordor and Mount Doom await, but the Spirit, that Holy Hound, will see me through to the good place.
Oh my heart that adoption story. Why can't we adult folks as kind. I can not wait for Sarah Bessey's book. As for twitter Lawd every hour it is a mess over there. I wonder if it will go away? I hope your procedure goes well, make sure you rest up and have wonderful Turkey Day. I am thankful for you, you crazy church lady (hugs).
Ablation recovery = heat pad and rest. But…nobody else in your house needs to know if it’s really not that bad. Also, this procedure is LIFE CHANGING!!!! My quality of life improved immensely after recovery. That was 11 years ago, and I’m still so very grateful I decided to do it.
It is 8:42 and I am still in bed - procrastinating so hard on getting up and ready for work, even though I’m usually on my way to work at this time 🙃 It’s been a WEEK. 😂
🎤 The Taylor Swift Ticketmaster thing on Tuesday legit felt like the Hunger Games™️, minus the actual dying. I’m on the West Coast, so after the website crashed at 10 AM, I got to log back in for round two of anxiety at 3 PM. (Also, ironically, I signed my husband up a Ticketmaster account literally just for this, and he’s the one that got pre-sale access 🙄🤷🏼♀️). It really feels like a miracle that after about 2 hours of waiting in the queue, I was able to get in & grab 4 tickets for our group, just above our price range. ($204 each + $fees, so $253 🥴). I am elated and relieved, but mostly SO upset that so many people I care about didn’t get tickets. 😣 I only reached out to 2 friends about it beforehand, but I seriously wish I could’ve purchased more tickets for friends. (In the moment I was panicking that it wasn’t going to work, so I found the 4 I needed and got out.) But the show is still 9 months away (in Los Angeles at least), so who knows what could happen! (Not gonna lie, there’s a good chance someone could get pregnant and won’t want to attend a concert in 9 mos & will need to sell their ticket 🤷🏼♀️😆). I am hoping and praying that there are still miracles to come!
🍽🦃 But my other treasure is that my husband and I are hosting thanksgiving for the very first time! We live in an apartment (more of a condo, but still rented, because: LA 🙃), but we do have a big beautiful 6ft table that I got on offer up last year and is the perfect holiday feast table! It will just be my parents (and maybe my 20 yr old brother), so not a lot of pressure there either. :) My parents are not the best cooks, so I am excited that 90% of the food will actually be delicious (my husband is a great cook) and “Jules-friendly” (what we call gluten-free food in our house, since I am intolerant to said glutes 😂). The only thing I’m worried about is that half our sectional couch is broken. SO. Board games at the table (with 🏈 in the background) is the plan. My brother is also being a 💩 and has created some beef (in his own head) with my Enneagram 9 husband, SO that should also be fun!! 😂
Okay, I definitely have to go and face this Friday - but I work on Monday and that’s it next week! I am so grateful for the break. 😅 I hope your Friday is lovely and smooth and you all get to eat your favorite food this week! I will be making my very favorite Savory Mashed Sweet Potatoes by Bri McKoy: https://oursavorylife.com/a-savory-mashed-sweet-potato-recipe/ 🍠🍠🍠
I was so lucky that I was already in a group of 6 people (the max amount of tickets you could get at once) and that we got okay ish seats. I’ve never seen TS and I’m absolutely freaking out!
📖🎧 I listened to Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz on the drive from Kansas to Minnesota and it might just be the best who-done-it ever written, IMO. And the narration is <chef’s kiss>.
🛝 Edinborough Park in Edina, MN is an amazing indoor playground. Even my 1 year old had an amazing time.
🦖 The Science Museum of Minnesota. So much hands on learning!
☕️ Caribou Coffee’s Spicy Mocha with oat milk. I am so mad that I will be going back to a Caribou Coffee desert.
👑 Visiting my alma mater and seeing old friends.
Turd:
🤧 Everyone except my 10 year old coming down with winter colds while traveling.
Magpie Murders is a solid read, but I read a LOT of mysteries and I am here to tell you that the best one I've ever read is The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle. Stuart Turton turned every mystery trope inside out and I'm still thinking about it months later.
Praying for you Erin! Enjoy your sweatpants and your shows as you have family members bring you stuff. (Just ask for weird things occasionally to keep them on their toes. 😉 )
Oh man this week brought to us by the letter T, I guess. (Twitter, Ticketmaster, etc.) At my house T = tree. We had to have two huge old trees on our property cut down - which was needed before they busted the foundation and dropped giant branches on our roof this winter. It is good, but also sad. We bought this house in psrt bc of the beautiful shade trees and now they are gone. But the company did a great job. It is fresh and clean and we are dreaming what new things we will plant there. Overall a treasure but bittersweet.
I had an ablation and it’s very easy. Heating pad, some pain medicine and an afternoon in bed watching all the things. I was back to normal the next day. No regrets!
I had an ablation and an ovary removed several years ago (about the same time of year). The recovery process was easy. Like others have said, just over the counter pain meds and take it easy for a couple of days. I think it took about 3 months for my period to settle in to its new normal. I also got a lot of online Christmas shopping done while I was recovering. Haha! Hope it all goes well for you!
Things with Old Man Coworker have been good lately, but it was also a joy to get to work with all the girlies at our other branch this week.
❄Today I'm making giant paper snowflakes to put up after Thanksgiving; I just love whenever I get to do crafts at work!
Thanks for all of your advice last week! I am working on scheduling a monthly lunch date with my friend and will hopefully talk through my concerns/fears surrounding this changing relationship.
Detroit Library is hiring for two different positions and I've been slowly working/procrastinating on my resume all week. The more I want things, the more I think they have to be done perfectly, and then procrastinate because obviously I can't do them perfectly 😒 Today's goal is to have a fully though imperfect draft of my resume and cover letter written!!
That's all from me friends, looking forward to catching up with everyone in the comments!
Fingers crossed for the job in Detroit! I know you've mentioned wanting to move to Detroit before. May I ask if there is a particular reason, or do you just like that area of the country?
Thanks! I've always bugged my brothers about moving closer to me, and they never did. So, when I started thinking about jobs out of state, I decided pretty quickly to move close to my middle brother and his wife. They live in Detroit and work in Ann Arbor. Also, my sister-in-law is precious and will text me about how excited she is to have me live near them!
Had that procedure Erin -- not fun but a big dose of ibuprofen, a heating pad and a good book will help. Also, take good precautions. Sometimes pregnancy sneaks up on you after an ablation.
Hi friends! Good GRIEF has this been a week---anybody else?
Excited for a few days off next week and have some friends and family coming in for a little visit!
But, the big news is I'm in a movie on Prime! I help run a youth performing arts group (Bay Area Performing Arts & Casting --https://www.bapacasting.com/ or @bapacasting on IG), we do lots of musicals and compete a national theatre competitions, etc; but my friend/business partner/director of the group is an insanely talented writer and has written several musicals that we've performed. One of those was made into a movie and we actually are on Prime Video right now: Filtered
I'm so proud of us! So for those of you that are theatre kids or have theatre kids or love Broadway and musicals, I'd be so honored if you'd check it out! It's about teens and social media pressure and finding connection. (sort of a Dear Evan Hansen-vibe) . **there is some language and content that would be more for middle school and up -- I think it says 13+

Hi Erin, Sorry you have to go through this! Hoping you feel so much better in the future!🙏🏼💛

I second this!!!!
I miss read "looking forward to the food in my future" with "looking forward to my future mood"
Please take good care of yourself while you heal! Thankful for you this week and all the laughs you give me!
Ablation recovery: heating pad! I was good to go in a day.

Ugh, I could go for a spicy mocha too!

Happy Friday! This is the first Friday in a month that I've had to work the full day 😂😂
D.L. is 100% correct, Hadestown is phenomenal! The touring cast knocked it out of the park. Dare I say, it was far better than Hamilton...
Also, I started a dress at 8am and wore it the show that night. Was this insane, yes. But it was also really fun! https://www.tiktok.com/@elizabarger/video/7165677978330860846?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc&web_id=7086131239826916910

Girl, you are a rock star! That dress is so cute and pulling it off in a day, while so calm and having fun.
- amazing! Plus, POCKETS! 💚
Agree your Hadestown spicy take.
Agree *with… 🤦🏻♀️
