Beth Moore's autobiography couldn't have been any better. I'm certain. I had an issue with my amazon book order and it was returned (before I even saw it!) so I listened to the audiobook. Oh my goodness - I think it was even better. Beth Moore reading her book...with her accent, inflections and emotions? And the fact that she hates Miracle Whip like I do just endeared her to me even more.

Miracle Whip defamation was worth the book. Real mayo or go home.

and the disaster that was twitter this week made me quit it, again. BUT on the plus side, we all learned that Dave Grohl is an amazing human.

And I need to remember Endel. OMG if my brain hasn't been over&under stimulated all week. it's been a lot

Thank you so much for sharing the Endel information. Lordy I have been going to dang fast and all over the place lately. I saw it on your IG story and was like "oh i like it" and then kept on scrolling. Starting Monday Endel and I will get to one another. I spent 2 days this week tuned into the Murdaugh trial, that was a mess but I could not turn away. And Erin that Apple Bottom song on your story took me out LOL!!!!

I would like to sleep for the next month, but I have too much to do. I found a house, it's cute and fine, and I hate renting so much. I expect to be nickel-and-dimed by property management companies, but it gets worse every time I have to do it. I also didn't expect to find a house in the first batch I looked at, so I have done zero packing and am ostensibly supposed to get the keys tomorrow. In better news, my grandma is still in the hospital, but she's improved enough that the medical team has put a pin in the dialysis plan for now. I have a dr appointment on Tuesday to go over some labwork that's mostly routine, but partly "we don't think this is a big deal, but we're adding some tests to rule out some scary stuff". Just a real raining/pouring situation out here.

I tried that app last night and I truly can't believe how I slept so deeply and had the weirdest and most fun dreams. I usually wake up around 2 and then again at 4 and just get up. I woke up at 2 but went right back to sleep and then slept until 7! SEVEN!!!! What a gift!

Hi, Swipes! I hope everyone is doing well.

I have a new part-time job as a substitute preschool teacher and have been spending the last couple weeks observing and doing paperwork etc. It’s a change and that is always hard for me, but so far it’s been fun!

I cannot wait to read Beth Moore’s book. I’m so far down the library list. It’s funny because I’ve been deconstructing for years, but she’s one teacher from before that I still feel really connected to.

I’m also considering two different certificate programs (I have my bachelor’s degree in psychology but do not want to pursue anything in that field). Copyediting vs Digital Marketing. There’s some overlap, but if you do either, please let me know your thoughts as to pros and cons!

Thanks for the Endel recommendation, it's been so useful today!

πŸ“šLike basically everyone else, I read (listened to) Beth Moore's autobiography this week and it was so, so good. And I just love her accent(s) so much, I'd like her to narrate everything!

🌻 The birds are back! It's still dreary and cold here in northern England, but being woken up by birds at 4am is the first sign that spring is on its way. Before long I'll want to shoot them, Phoebe's boyfriend style, for waking me up but until then, hurrah.

More πŸ“š A treasure for tomorrow - my husband is running cross country in Alnwick, so I'm spending the whole afternoon at Barter Books, a huge and gorgeous second-hand bookshop. Wierdly, it's where the original 'Keep Calm and Carry On' poster which was everywhere in the 00s was found. I'm unreasonably excited for an afternoon of wandering around with the scent of old books in the air, then buying too many of them.

πŸ₯³ Y’all know my #1 treasure is that it’s my birthday today. I know there’s at least one birthday card waiting in my mailbox, and I’ve been told to expect a few more throughout the month. That alone is a celebration (THANK YOU!). But I think we can all agree the greatest gift is just that I am still intact and only slightly disabled after the stroke. I don’t take that for granted in the least. [P.S. it’s largely because of your generosity and support]

Today’s plans are to pick up a selection of freebies from various restaurants around town and to enjoy some locally-made tamales with queso for dinner. Tamales are my absolute favorite food so it’s a no brainer every year. There’s also some new TV to enjoy: my beloved Mandalorian is back, and Daisy Jones has arrived!🀘🏻 I also have a box of individually wrapped gifts from my best good friend (slash 23 year pen pal) waiting for me. I opened one of the packages last night and giggled for an extended time; it was a box of Frankenberry cereal and another box of Count Chocula. πŸ˜‚ Favorites indeed! It’s that kind of joy that I’m looking for in this 54th year.

Newsletter Thoughts

πŸ–ΌοΈ OMG @oldmadegood is my new favorite follow. I love art made from found things! And making it snarky or sarcastic is always a win. Have y’all seen @phaedrapeer? https://instagram.com/phaedrapeer

πŸ₯€ Yes, I have a cup roster. It’s a series of favorites in rotation throughout the week. I see a future Instagram post in the works!

🎸 I came of age during the Nirvana years and Foo Fighters has been in the background of my adulthood, but I was never a huge fan of either so I can’t tell you more than the basics of the music. But in the last few years I’ve come to learn that, yes, Dave Grohl is absolutely in charge. He just seems to be a really awesome guy! I need to mention that to my 20-year-old self next time I see her.

πŸ† This whole year is about giving myself ribbons for small wins, but what a perfect motto for this time (and for life!): β€œYour brain doesn’t even have arms so stop letting it push you into stuff or hold you back.” πŸ™ŒπŸ»

Thank you so much, Dawn! I’ve been very pleased with my recovery and the therapists I’m working with. This week I even managed to drive again! The OT suggested I give it a try, just to see if my body could manage the mechanics, and it worked perfectly. I have a little one-handed assistive device for the steering wheel and really don’t need my right hand for the task. It’s amazing how the body can learn to compensate.

Hi friends!

At the moment most of my stuff is boxed up and in storage while I'm trying to find an apartment but you better believe a brought a few cups with me to my parents' house. If I don't have my morning tea in my morning tea mug my whole day is thrown off πŸ˜‚

🏠 Moving out ended up going surprisingly well. I got some great help and everything went smoothly. The most surprising part was that even though I really loved my old apartment, I wasn't sad to leave.

🍲 This soup was really easy to make and it was good too. https://www.wgbh.org/dining-in/2021/03/25/a-simple-yet-robust-recipe-for-turkish-red-lentil-soup

πŸ› Long baths, good books and sunshine is slowly restoring me after the horror that was January and February. Thank the Lord.

Have a wonderful weekend!

"Your brain doesn't even have arms!" I'm gonna use that all the time now.

Good morning Swipes. Somehow, through client deadlines and tax prep and continuing to wait for biopsy results for our beloved dog 😟 and holding a variety of surgeries, broken bones, lost jobs, a disastrous case of long covid for my friends son (his Jr year and his brain literally doesnt function anymore), a surprise court case, and other disasters for friends and family in prayer (what on Earth is going on?) - I made it through this week.

πŸ“š I finished The Lost and Found Bookshop, which did not end the way I thought it would. And finished The Light is Winning, which my favorite parts were references to Walter Brueggemann, so my tbr just got bigger.

πŸ“Ί I'm on a PBS kick (those shows are soothing during a hectic week) and watched three documentaries (about blue jeans and about monopoly and about Zora Neal Hurston - Holy smokes I learned so much about her. Wow what a dame!) And finished All Creatures Great and Small and the entire season (so far) of Finding Your Roots (which I've never seen before).

πŸ“½I was so tired that my husband picked our movies this week. The History of the World Part I (in preparation for possibly watching Part II, but my husband came up to me yesterday, "I don't think we'll do Part 2. I remembered Part 1 as being funnier, but it's really dumb." "Yeah, honey you watched it when you were in, like junior high. Of course it was funnier then.") We also watched Uncharted, which was fun and Indiana Jonesy.

I'm off socials for the most part so I only get what people send me. All my people were run over this week (see above) so I only got this one goofy video from my mother in law: https://youtube.com/watch?v=tL_zvi0ltzI&feature=shares

✨️The real treasure is that I'm almost done with taxes and my client deadlines. And I'm looking forward to the next round of rain, to snuggle up with my husband and dogs. We have a random extra turkey in the freezer and may roast that up. Thanksgiving in March!

Wishing you all a lovely weekend, Swipes. See you in the comments.

I gave up social media (specifically FB, Instagram, Twitter and TikTok) for Lent, so I’m thankful for the β€œCliff Notes” (β€œSpark Notes” for you younger folk) here in the newsletter and in the comments!

Love hearing about Dave Grohl! I may have to look for a bio on him - any recommendations?

And the cup thing? So intrigued - I may have to have my hubby look at the link and describe what is going on!

My treasure this week has been Erin’s Lent daily readings. My first year observing Lent, and it really has been amazing. Difficult in a good way, but so needed for my soul. Realizing the church trauma runs deep, and Erin’s gentle voice has been what I needed.

I am absolutely going to save the "everything's made up" TikTok to my rotation of "watch when sad" items. That woman got my weekend off to the best start. Well, that and my beloved little sister texting me the link to the newest "Can it Kirkland" on TikTok. I'm not on TikTok, so she sends me all the new reels in that series as they come out, and they absolutely delight me! (If you haven't seen it, here it is: https://www.tiktok.com/@neverendingfall/video/7205373060579642670?_t=8aJRYS9USVS&_r=1)

The cups are so real. I have a Simple Modern tumbler exclusively for Liquid IV, an Owala bottle for water, nice rocks glasses for grapefruit juice (yep, only grapefruit juice...and sometimes cocktails), and numerous handmade pottery mugs for coffee and tea (handmade pottery is my favorite souvenir to pick up on vacations).

I'm very much looking forward to this weekend: going out for Indian food tonight at a new place, tomorrow I'm celebrating a dear friend's swearing in as a naturalized US citizen (officially happened Thursday, the surprise party is on Saturday), and on Sunday my boyfriend and I will be supervising the pack up and loading process of most of his things because the floors are FINALLY getting replaced on Monday!!! His condo flooded back at the end of December and the prospect of work finally beginning is thrilling!

Other treasures:

-Currently reading Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson and y'all it is SO good! I live for debut novels.

-I made two new recipes this week. They weren't my favorites but I love trying new things in the kitchen.

-My favorite local winery released a collection of delicious red wines bundled with a nice discount, so my boyfriend and I got it and we're having fun trying them!

You guys. My husband and I drove from Denver to Albuquerque yesterday for a long weekend getaway at our neighbor's Airbnb, and it's magical. Her dad built this gorgeous adobe house with his brother in the 70s, so they added QR codes all over the house with little videos explaining how they did things and why. It's silent, and unique, and sunny, and our neighbors are super excited to have us stay. Our only regret is that we're not here for longer.

I have Beth's book on hold at the library, but now I'm thinking I might need to put the audiobook on hold too.

We're off to breakfast at a lavender farm! Ta-ta!
