Thankful for these. I’m floundering a bit between sleep apnea not improving, yt supremacy bullshittery in missions, lots of health issues in my Nicaraguan family that are far from us, some big decisions coming up and then the feeling that absolutely nothing will ever change or improve and we’re all just sinking in quicksand. I am firmly in the Ecclesiastes mentality of everything is vapor...I have not moved forward in my lent reading since March 15. My son is a third grader, autistic, unable to follow immediate demands and the whole school shooting just really threw me in a spiral again...as it does when this bs happens. The feeling that it is inevitable he will be in this situation, that his death and destruction is just looming closer and closer is paralyzing.

So. V grateful for some links and tweets that shine tiny lights.

Very proud to say the last tweet is from one of law professors. Her classes were as fun as that tweet suggest.

Puffy coat pope is the only good AI image.

After a not-very hope-inducing visit with my grandmother last week, she appears to have turned a corner and is doing much better. She will hopefully be discharged from rehab next week.

I made a donation to a local community violence prevention group, and set up a recurring donation to a state gun reform organization. I live in TX, so y'all know they have their work cut out.

Who wants to come help me set up my house? The thing about living alone is when you move you get to do all the work yourself and it's so fun to try to figure out how to set up your new kitchen that is weird in a different way from the last kitchen and hope you don't have to do it all again next year. Fix it, Jesus.

Yall! The Pope in a puffer coat is the image I needed to lift my spirits this week 😂 I mean it still has a sash sewn in around the waist as if to say that not even cold weather can de-pope-afy this man’s wardrobe.

People are wearing orange to today to raise awareness about gun control/mass shootings/need for legislation, and also trans rights. (I learned about it from Ms. Frazzled on IG) Thanks for re-sharing Resist Bot and making it easy for us to contact our representatives, which can seem daunting.

Thank you for the resistbot! I used it in hopes that things don't remain in gridlock as it seems gun reform currently is. and that is not helpful

Enjoy your concert, Erin! Apart from the snow, it sounds great 😂

I’m currently waiting to see if we’ll get our predicted thunderstorms & potential tornado watch here in Indiana today. Dropping my 4th & 1st grader off at school this week has been hard, and I am very much at the point of despair & hopelessness over our representatives (who don’t seem like they represent anyone besides themselves). It feels worthless to call, write, text etc but I am trying to make myself do it anyway.

In better news, my 1st grader got her ballet recital costume and it is the most precious thing ever. I’m baking wonky sugar cookies for my kids to decorate after school. There’s a dad-daughter dance tomorrow that my kids are so excited for. I’m glad for this community ❤️

Happy Friday! It's my only day off for a solid two weeks - working in a sacramental church does have its drawbacks.

I identified with that cooking-vs-compliments tweet so hard - I don't *mind* cooking, but I get really cranky if no one says they like what I've made.

Lots of thoughts about guns and politics, but none of the are articulated well, and all of them are cynical.

Have the best weekend available to you, Lil Swipes!

Spring break this week for my kids, so I was able to hug and cuddle them extra while I process what happened. Thanks for the reminder to use Resistbot, Erin.

Took my twin 8-year old boys and 10-year old daughter to the LA County Museum of Art. I don’t know why I thought that would be “fun” for kids. 😂 They were all well-behaved so I’m grateful for that. Fascinated and thrilled that one of my twins actually had a good time and was excited to go to room to room, art piece to art piece. He had the biggest smile on his face! Oh my heart! 🥹

We also went out to eat more than usual and did other fun things. I’m so happy with the quality time with family this week! I just realized last night that all my time as a working mom often had me preoccupied, and I didn’t give my family “100%.” This new season as a SAHM (and also Erin’s daily Lenten readings) has opened my eyes, and I am so grateful for the precious, beautiful time with my kids and hubby.

Hope everyone has a good Holy Week!

This week has been so hard and disappointing and rage-making. I don’t even know how the “pro life” representatives can look at themselves in the mirror. In addition to making calls and donating money, I will be spending the weekend lying on the floor.

Happy Friday! I've really avoided social media this week, I haven't had the bandwidth for people who've never worked in schools giving their hot takes. I've only lived in MI for 3 weeks, but this weekend I'll be figuring out who my reps are and getting in contact.

🔖The job is going so well! I left Wednesday night and just thought 'I really like this job'. The people are great and I'm getting to use all of my teaching skills and building some new ones. Yesterday I'm was on desk by myself and I was able to answer all the questions myself!!

🚗I got to work without the GPS! Now, the way home is not happening bc it's always different due to road construction and traffic.

⚽I'm finally watching Ted Lasso and it lives up to the hype; it's just delightful

Looking forward to a Saturday of not going anywhere! We're going to Legally Blonde on Sunday night which will be super fun! Have the best weekend available to you my friends ❤

Hooray for the new job going so well! And for getting to work without your GPS...Michigan is TERRIBLE with construction right now. 🤪 On the plus side, you'll probably get your bearings faster because of all the detours!

I also tend to avoid social media in times like these because it’s very frustrating to hear hot takes from people with no skin the game. I’m in a virtual training this week with small group of other educators from across the country and we all panicked for one of our classmates when she had to go into lockdown while on zoom. Thankfully, it was drill, but none of us knew that until it was over.

Have fun at Legally Blonde! We saw it on Tuesday and it was delightful!

In addition to all the world events this week, I had to break up with my first ever boyfriend (I’m 35 so it kinda feels like this was my only shot but I know that’s not true.) it was a suuuuper sucky situation all around. I know it was the right decision. I might get a cat. Talk me into or out of it. Or I don’t know.

High fiving you for choosing you and your best, wildly cheering for you and shouting compliments from the sidelines as you walk forward and inevitably trip over doubts, fears, hurts, and questions. Keep going, take care of what you need each day (even if it seems silly/unnecessary), and I’m firmly a dog lover, so definitely get a pet if that’s your thing.

Get the cat. Even if it's love is conditional, the conditions are easy to meet (food, lap, etc.), so you win either way.

Oh, dear. I'm so sorry. Sometimes making empowered decisions are still just hard.

I'm fully team 'cats solve all the problems" but we have so many thanks to someone dumping a litter of kittens in our yard during covid lockdown and only kill shelters being open. They can be great but they are also jerks.

I’m sorry about your breakup, even though it was right. Doesn’t make it easier. Maybe you could cat-sit for a friend or colleague? I am all about the “try before you buy” life, esp when it comes to pets 😂

I'm a no pets lady, but I fully support taking on a new challenge or hobby to get through a breakup. If a cat is the right fit, I say go for it!!

Whewww that link to “things more important than the right to bear arms” had me crying at the kitchen sink. It gave me more grace and energy to get my 8 months pregnant self off my chair and grab seconds and thirds of breakfast, new napkins, and water refills with gratitude that my little souls are safe and well at my kitchen table. Thank you for all the reads and shares this week - some really great content out there! I’m so encouraged by the comments of those writing to their reps. It can feel so hopeless out there, and I feel less hopeless reading your comments ❤️
