📱Lil Treasures #180: Screen Time and Dance Marathons
We're talking Trash 90s Summer and the OTHER Ten Commandments
Hello my beautiful baby birds. I don’t really have much in the way of pleasantries other than just saying the word “May” over and over again with a dead look in my eyes. We’re almost there! My kids finished up school this week and they’re about to have what I’m calling Trash 90s Summer until they start camp. Trash 90s Summer is unbathed. Trash 90s Summer is good with watching six hours of the Flintstones. Trash 90s Summer means you can go 72 hours in the same pair of mismatched pajamas if you want. Trash 90s Summer is eating whatever you can find in the pantry. Trash 90s Summer is putting on your still-wet swimsuit from the day before and eating garbage at the pool with the $5 your mom gave you. Trash 90s Summer is a STATE OF MIND, okay? We’re embracing it.
I know. I promised Q+A this week, but just picture me, saying “May” with that dead look in my eyes. But I do have some great treasures to share and I know you do too.
This week’s delightful treasures:
📖 Pete Enns is teaching an online class about the history of biblical interpretation over at The Bible for Normal People next week! If you’re interested, you can check out some information about the class at this link. You do have to purchase a ticket for this class, but the price is “Pay What You Can.” I’m trying to work it out and make it happen!
✨ I’ve been entrenched in discussions about bitterness among the church/Christians this week (I wrote about this subject & finsta’s over on The Swipe Up+) so when I saw Shannah’s post about optimism it was a lovely palate cleanser and a reminder that there is still hope that exists in these circles.
🐾 If you read last week’s newsletter, may I present you with a lovely follow-up to Anne Helen Petersen’s piece on the difficulty of losing a dog:
📱Most of us are rounding that corner to summer (it just started at our house) and to be honest this time of year really stresses me out because the structure is gone! Chaos ensues! I came across this post about setting healthy boundaries for screens and I will definitely be using these suggestions, thank you very much.
📜We’re talking about The Other 10 Commandments over on The Bible Binge this week If you’re passionate about left-lane driving etiquette and some other unwritten rules, this episode is right up your alley. You can listen here or wherever you access your favorite pods! It is absolute chaos.
🕺And lastly, this video about life as a teen parent was a lovely and encouraging reminder. I’m saving it for later when future-Erin needs to be reminded!

Cheers to you this holiday weekend (for my friends in the U.S.) and may your entrances to summer be relaxing and stocked full of snacks. See you in the comments!
I love that Trash 90s Summer vibe. Yes it can sometimes be difficult to not have a lot of structure but man I love “lazy” days and not having to rush around anywhere.
My daughter graduated high school last week and we had a great celebration with family and friends. She decided she is going to college and going to our alma mater, Mizzou! Pumped about that, probably more than she is at the moment but praying she gets more excited and just has a great experience. Have a great weekend!
In the middle of a glorious, sunny Memorial Day weekend here in St. Paul, and I'm feeling very grateful to see my pollinator garden start coming up. I spent last summer digging up non-pollinator plants and trading for new ones, and then tried winter sowing over our LONG winter, and now things are finally starting to come together. My garden nerd self is fully engaged and delighted.
After going through several dark months with depression, the sun and new life is helping my heart heal. I'm thankful for online connections on IG, and through my FB groups like Buy Nothing and Perennial Exchange, where I've traded and gifted/been gifted so many fun treats over the past year.
Hang in there friends! Just when you think it's darkest, sometimes you can find a little twinkle of joy that brings you through to the next day. Hugs to all!
