🧙🏻♀️Lil Treasures #188: Going Outside and Witches with Tupperware
We're celebrating seltzer water and digging up historical docs
Hello, friends! I’m so happy you’re here!
To be honest it has been easy to look at everything with the opposite of rose-colored glasses lately, but I’m excited to see some family this weekend and surround myself with blasts of air conditioning and cold, delicious snacks.
This has been a season where things have often felt out of control, and I’ve tried to remind myself of the things that are tethering me: tethering me to reality, to faith, to goodness, etc. Some things that are grounding me lately are fresh-cut watermelon, watching these weird hazy wildfire sunsets from my porch, and taking time to read fiction.
If you are in a similar place (or if you have been in the past), I’d love to hear what tethers you! Let me know in the comments!
Let’s move on to the treasures!
🥵It’s the most insufferable part of the summer and these are my feelings about it.
🃏I’d like to push all my chips in on
, an anonymous advice column where they post bi-monthly content written by the combined efforts of a poet, a pastor and a therapist. It’s excellent!🥾I loved Eric Thomas’ account of hiking Arthur's Seat in Scotland. His caption could be a book in itself!
🥓PSA that this recipe for blackberry bacon grilled cheese with goat cheese looks to be a beautiful marriage of the best summer ingredients.
🎾Marketa Vondrousova won Wimbledon this past week! This video of Marketa's sister being her biggest hype girl and supporter got me in my feels.
🚗 Okay a couple of weeks ago I told you about my friend Karis Brister, who had a Go Fund Me to help get her a car. I’ve known Karis on the internet for a couple of years, she’s been a delightful part of this online community, and I’ve even got to meet her in real life at a Popcast Live. She is absolutely precious and many of you were so kind to throw her a couple of bucks and she told me she felt so seen and loved! Well, as Karis was in the process of transferring your donations to her account to purchase her car Go Fund Me inexplicably issued a reimbursement to all donors, and deleted the campaign page, leaving Karis back at square one. Obviously, that is super frustrating and heartbreaking. So! We are rallying! Please consider resending that original donation, but we’re gonna try a new medium. Below I’ve linked Karis’s cash app, Venmo, and PayPal. If you have the means, I know it would mean so much to her to see if we make it happen for her again! Think of it as her very own, mini-We Got You Club!

👑 Important PSA for my fellow royal historians: this article was just posted announcing that censored accounts from Elizabeth I’s reign have now re-appeared after 400 years!
✨Sign me up for this level of relaxation. Capybaras are self-care queens.
🔥Listen, we are living through the Roasting Days of summer. In the midst of these trying times please keep in mind (as one of my favorite internet follows Rev. Benjamin Cremer reminds us) that modest his hottest!
🍷We’re snake drafting Miracles this week over on the Bible Binge! If you’re interested in our selections + want to hear some weird hot takes from yours truly, you can give it a listen here!
Last but not least, the Tweets!
(The threads were a little bare this week, so tweets will have to suffice)
Okay kids, that’s a wrap for the treasures this time. Barbieheimer weekend is upon us! Who is seeing Barbie and who is seeing Oppenheimer? (Or, like me, are you going to drag your feet and maybe see it in 3 months?) Let me know in the comments!
What’s tethering me...anything I can get my hands on by Kate Bowler. 🫶🏻 she’s just medicine to the soul, ya know? O and these li’l treasures. -like a little wink in my inbox every week. 💛
Late jumping in on comments. Was planning a big Barbie bday party for myself on July 21st, but instead my college-age daughters woke me at 12:30 a.m. that morning to tell me 1) Happy Birthday, Mom, and 2) Dad is on the floor of the bathroom and unresponsive. Long story short, he'd fallen 2 days earlier, and now had a subdural hematoma (brain bleed) and was rushed to the hospital for an emergency craniotomy. So Barbie party will be rescheduled, husband is still in ICU, I'm caring for our 3 adult daughters with all the TLC in my veins, driving from MN to IL tomorrow to move my 86yo mom into a nursing home and move one daughter into her college apartment, I start my new job in 4 weeks, and so yeah...it's been a lively few days.
The girls and I saw Barbie last Wed. and it was perfection.
