Hadn't heard about the Diarrhea Plane, because we've experienced something similar at our home this week. My husband was released from the hospital a week ago after suffering a traumatic brain injury, and so far he's had 3 blowouts in/over/beyond his adult pull-ups. I have to run in with bleach after every time he uses the bathroom or our daughter won't even enter the room. Also started my new job this week, blessedly working from home for this first week so I could help care for his needs. Between the stress of all the personal care giving and the new job, I sat and cried through the whole sermon at our small church today. So grateful for the kindest friends there to support and encourage me after this LONG, short week. It will get better, I know. Grateful to have survived this first week and praying for strength for the week ahead!

I have stayed blissfully unaware of Diarrhea Plane until now.

It is officially fall- I have seen flocks of geese and the weigelia bushes and some trees are beginning to turn colors. The garden is still growing and I processed two gallon bags of spaghetti sauce this week!

I do need to do some shopping for fall clothing but I'm not very good at shopping for "the middle" seasons. Does anyone have any recommendations? I mainly need/want flats and shirts.

Treasures!

-Journaling and writing poetry again. This has started to become a lovely rhythm while reading Arielle Estoria's The Unfolding.

-My copy of Jasmine Holmes' new book Crowned With Glory came in the mail and it has one of the prettiest covers I have ever seen on a book. I can't wait to get to the inside!

-Sharon McMahon's podcast with Will Hurd, Better Together in Season 12

Have the best weekend available to you!

Diarrhea Plane is what it took to make me finally comment. I'm gonna be deep diving this story all day. My husband who used to work for United did add that carpet replacement happens a lot pretty quickly like that- just not usually for diarrhea!

So this is my first week here in the Lil Swipes comments, and I just gotta say, what a week to start! 😳

So many questions about diarrhea plane. What did she do about her clothes?! Did she have a change in her carryon? (Never traveling without one from now on). If she got back on the plane to continue her trip, did she just throw her clothes away? Was she ok on her trip? We need a follow-up!

Also, from now on none of us aisle seaters will be moving slowly to let window and middle seaters out to go to the bathroom.

Oh man!!! Long time reader, first time commenter. God bless the Delta flight attendants using paper towels and napkins with a “vanilla scent” spray… In the spirit of sharing crazy airplane travel stories. My friend, who is a flight attendant, shared that one time, as the plane was literally taking off a male passenger came running back to her seat ( as she was buckled in) demanding that she come with him back to his seat. He was very persistent and agitated. As she followed him back (during take off), she got to his row and sees his seat mate openly (uncovered) breast feeding her CAT… yep… CAT. Stunned, all my friend said was “At no time should your animal be out of his carrier during the flight”…. Ha!!!! And she helped find the male passenger another seat. Okay. That’s all I got…

I had not heard about diarrhea plane, but I did think it was going to be a personal story about you flying back to Birmingham after the Austin show full of torchy’s and Tums

I had missed the Diarrhea Plane news, so after reading the newsletter, I made the (misguided?) decision to Google it. I typed "Diar" into the search bar, and Google immediately auto-suggested "Diarrhea Plane." (That poor woman. Bless.) Thanks, Erin, for keeping me informed about the important things. I mean, Sharon McMahon, who *usually* adds tremendous knowledge and value to my life, has failed to cover this piece of news - which is apparently so popular that all Google needed was "Diar" to know exactly what I was looking for. Just saying...

If I were the diarrhea lady I would never leave my house again. But it did remind me of my best plane story that I have.

A few years ago my husband and I were red eyeing from SF to atlanta. So it’s around 3 am and as always we were in the last row because we are peasants. And we are also nurses. My husband is an ex Grady memorial trauma ER nurse (if you know you know) and loves trauma and drama and at the time was an ICU nurse. I am a peds cancer nurse and USELESS in an emergency. Any way they call over head for help in the back for a medical emergency and of course my husband pops up and I follow as a hype girl knowing full well he will take control of the situation and I can just hang back and act like I know something. Well the flight attendants look panicked and tell us how a lady came back her pulling down her pants and gasping for air before going into the bathroom. They then proceed to unlock the bathroom door so my husband can stick his head in there which he does and starts asking questions. The poor lady starts trying to shut the door on his head and says ‘ I don’t need help I just took 3 fish oil pills before this flight and need to poop’ 😂

So we go back to our seats. Later the flight attendant came and gave my husband and I each 100$ in flight credit. And that’s the time we made 200$ for harassing a lady on a plane toilet.

Now I'm mad that the one time my dad provided medical assistance (now-retired paramedic), we didn't get anything. I will say that as a medic, his favorite people were night shift ER nurses.

As someone who cannot watch television without the captions on, I appreciate this last appreciation immensely.

My husband says if this happened to him, he would have gotten an Imodium AD sponsorship and laughed all the way to the bank. I could never show my face in public again.

As someone who is a little bit tetchy about flying and is about to get on a plane in a month, I think the content of this email constitutes all I want to know about Diarrhea Plane 🤢

I have never commented before, but, I am now because of Diarrhea Plane. I have been obsessing over this story and deep diving and thinking about all these things too. and knowing others are as obsessed as me feels comforting. I just keep thinking of the poor woman with the diarrhea and I really hope she's ok. I just feel like this has the potential to scar you for life. I mean, becoming internet famous as the diarrhea lady is not how any of us would want to be known. I would love it if one of her family members would anonymously give a statement letting us know if she's alright.

These are the QTNAS!

We have talked about this at great length in our house and saw the Twitter video and passenger posted. Y’all, I cannot even imagine.

I had a friend who was on a flight and the person sitting next to her, whom she did not know, got sick and THREW UP ALL OVER my friend. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤢

My biggest fear about diarrhea plane, is that Delta will “clean” it up and this will be the plane I’m on on November on my way to Costa Rica. Dear Baby Jesus, please do not let this happen 🙏🙏🙏

I think our safest bet is to never fly delta again

All good questions, Erin. This really could be a documentary podcast. Just the feeling of being trapped and helpless in a tube thousands of feet above the ground. Gah!

OK, that New Yorker article. God bless Joe Garcia. 😢 Is it too much to hope that he gets to meet her someday?

My back is slowly healing. I am able to walk without a cane and sit up for short periods of time. Yesterday I was able to stand long enough to cook breakfast and do a couple small chores. Another shoutout to delivery everything and online banking/bill pay etc. Keeping my household running with a few clicks. Amen! Other than that I'm still watching TV shows. Just finished Abbot Elementary 🥰 and am embarking on Only Murders in the Building. Then back to Handmaids Tale. (I needed a breather). That's my life. Me and my laptop. 💻

Heavy Ts&Ps to everyone involved with Diarrhea Plane, but this is not a rabbit hole that I'm going to be able to go down. I'm just too squeamish for all that.

It's been a pretty quiet and relaxing short week at the library. Our YS director is off this week, so the vibe is much more chill.

They are doing some air quality assessments in our office today! We need it, but we also don't want any horrible revelations about all the things we've been breathing in.

My brother has been wanting me to watch EEAO and after this weeks Faith Adjacent ep I think I'm ready.

I'm painting again at the house this weekend. It's going and it will be great, but it's def a situation. Once we started it was clear that literally every surface would need to be painted eventually which was an overwhelming realization. The focus for now is LR/Hallway and kitchen which fingers crossed should be done by Sunday!

Painting takes forever. I wish home reno shows would admit that and show how tired everyone is after day 5.
