A medical crush! I've had so many but didn't know what to call it!! Wishing you speedy osteo healing

Girl. Nobody gets freakish medical issues like me. Also all Ortho doctors are required to be hot. Mine is (google Alex Sweet). Anyhoo I’m praying for you and know this is SO ANNOYING but baby Cy is saving us all right now with his tender care.

I personally LOVE the video! So if that’s easier, bring it on. The longer the better. Also as a Lil Swipe I’m sure we’d all be happy to submit videos of crazy stories that would make us laugh (or empathize) with the freakish things that happen. Mine was yesterday and involved Instacart and cat litter. (I don’t own a cat)

Take care Erin! We’re all cheering for you!

I mean just oy. Appreciate the update and the story, but I know this is no fun for you! What about a "best of" from previous newsletter posts (maybe even from tendie Tuesday for a little preview?) You have written so many great words that surely several of them are worthy of a re-read.

Oh Erin, those are some tough breaks! I sprained my MCL playing Capture The Flag with our youth group several years ago, and also did the whole “nah, I’m not hurt, I’m fine” and kept on going...until the next morning when I could not move my leg. After a visit to Emerg (where the nice doctor reminded me that I was not the “youth” in youth group) I ended up in a brace with crutches for 6 weeks. Couldn’t drive because my car was a stick shift, needed my husband’s help with everything, navigating stairs was treacherous. It was brutal.

If you want an absolutely delightful viewing experience, which will hack your crying and get you all up in your feels, I highly HIGHLY recommend the documentary “Mr Dressup: The Magic of Make-Believe” about Ernie Coombs, better known as Mr Dressup, a Canadian TV icon. Pretty much every single kid in the country watched his show, with his puppets Casey and Finnegan, and he was just as wonderful a person off-screen. There’s even a connection to Mr Rogers!

A possibly helpful treasure in this moment- when my sweet friend broke both her elbows in an in-her-own-home roller skating accident, this bad boy helped with hair washing!

Erin! So sorry! More raw and wild videos please!

To community, I want to frame a page from my grandmother's bible for my daughter's nursery (due Jan 1!). Looking for non-proverbs31 recommendations! I want something encouraging and empowering to speak over her little, wonderful life. Do you have any verses or passages that you would recommend?!

My joy this week came in the form of finishing my first LEGO set and securing tickets to the F1 Canadian Grand Prix for next year. The LEGO was gifted to me by friends back in the summer for my birthday. I’ve been holding off starting it because then it would be over, but I finally started last week and finished it a few days ago. It’s the set of The Office and there is a tremendous amount of fun detail that is just incredible.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching the video! But am so sorry that you’ll be in recovery mode for a while :/ I certainly wouldn’t mind just you telling random stories or giving us injury updates or what not over video in the meantime

I second both the sorrow over recovery and the video suggestion!

Better luck for the 250th edition? Some amount of roasting is essential for healing. I am reminded of a youth pastor friend who, forgetting that he wasn't 21 anymore, tried jumping over a table and ended up completely wrecking his knee. I don't remember the exact details, but there was surgery involved as well as a lengthy stint on crutches. If he's managed to live it down, it's only because it's been long enough that all of those kids have aged out of the youth group.

My biggest treasure is that a patient (dog) that I ended up having to do semi-emergency surgery on last week bounced into her recheck on Monday like nothing happened. I work at a spay-neuter clinic, so we don't see sick animals all that often, and that kind of surgery is pretty far outside of our remit (although it was something I'd done before). Her very kind owner, after I had described the procedure, said "well aren't you impressive!" and then brought me flowers at the recheck.

I've got to go, the meteorologist on the local eclipse livestream just threw to the zoo flamingo cam.

Erin sending you both prayers and incantations because that is the vibe I have currently landed on 🙏 ✨

💩 A turd I will accept and appreciate prayers and incantations for is my toddler getting an injection in his knee this week for juvenile arthritis.

✨ A treasure is The Thursday Murder Club series by Richard Osman. I started reading them by recommendation from Sarah Bessey’s Substack and they are a delight. I really like cozy mysteries as I enjoy the suspense but it makes me slightly less stressed out than a thriller mystery 😅 but I struggle to find well written ones, so please send over recommendations haha

My most embarrassing break was as a youth group director at a lock-in at a local Y. We decided to play glow in the dark dodgeball at midnight, and I got tackled to the ground by a high school football player. I knew my foot wasn't ok, but I was determined to be cool youth group leader so I continued to play all games all night. Won the coke mile (drink a coke for every lap until you've run a mile) at 4 am. Threw up at 5 am, drove home at 7 am, and crashed on the couch until the guy I had been talking to came to pick me up for our third date. I tried putting on heels, fell to the ground, and that's when he noticed my foot was wonky looking so we moved our date to the drs office.

Hope you feel better! Rest!
