📺 Lil' Treasures #201: Substitute Teacher with a TV Rolling Cart
The One Where Erin Broke All Her Wrists
Hello all!
here subbing in for our fearless, but recovering Lil’ Swipes leader, Erin.Think of this as a Friday in the sixth grade where a stay-at-home Dad trying to earn a little extra money pops in to cover for your favorite teacher by promising we’ll watch Casper and eat sneaky snacks.
I’m not only friends with Erin, I’m also her coworker at The PMG where we make podcasts.
We met where you meet all the weirdest and most fun folks, the internet. Erin and I met on the failing site formerly known as Twitter where she was retweeted into my feed. Her tweets were a delight, so I followed her.
I eventually set up a thirst trap.
It worked and we then took our friendship to the next level on Facebook - a place I can no longer visit because of wanting to continue to love my extended family well.
In the long-celebrated tradition of people you meet on Beyonce’s internet, Erin and I eventually started a podcast called Golden Moon Buffet.
Erin’s claim to fame in our show was she predicted newly pregnant Kimberly Noel Kardashian would name her first baby, North.
We made this podcast when Erin was living in Nashville with two tiny bebes while Ben still worked in Birmingham. We would record at night while both of us worked from our bed in our pajamas - not the best setup for energetic audio or helping one of us recover from postpartum psychosis.
This brief but mighty run lasted only 10 episodes.
But don’t fret. In the wise words of Semisonic “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end.” One month later, I started The Popcast with
and the rest is online history. My favorite thing Erin and I recently got to do was record a Faith Adjacent episode with the leading global scholar on Bible hottie, Paul - Dr. N.T. Wright, or “Tom” which is how he is now listed in my Favorites.
Dr. Wright is an English New Testament scholar, Pauline theologian, and Anglican bishop. He just released a new book (AFTER WRITING SEVENTY OTHERS) called Into the Heart of Romans and he stopped by our show to answer our questions about Paul.
I cannot overemphasize what a special episode this was for our team, but also for my God-loving heart. To hear the leading Pauline expert correct some long held assumptions many in the church have about women and mental health was transformative. Also, I got to ask him if he thought Paul was hot. And he answered.
Let’s Do The Treasures!
🎧 This month has held so much heaviness and I was looking high and low for help on getting a clearer perspective on the Israel-Hamas war. Ezra Klein came through with 16 minutes of wisdom on his podcast.
🔥I’m currently in the throws of perimenopause which apparently is still an ongoing mystery for the medical community despite the fact that 50% of the population could live long enough to go through it. (I guess they’ve been busy creating no less than 29 medications for men and their digletts. NO MATTER.) My favorite internet follows and gynecological experts on the topic are Dr. Mary Claire Haver and Dr. Alexis. If you happen to run hot - because of hormones or otherwise - might I suggest my new best friend, this cooling blanket. It truly does cool you down. I travel with it.
💍 My new favorite ring to wear is this Tik Tok scrolling ring. Here’s the thing - I only allow myself one hour a day of scrolling and with those kind of HEALTHY BOUNDARIES, I need speed. I no longer have to swipe up or even hold my phone. This swipes for me. Lazy lil’ swipes unite.
🕰️ Speaking of Tik Tok, my current favorite follows are Hello Tefi (pop culture), Wakanda on the Weekends (comedy), Reb for the Rebrand (legal comedy), Melissa Murdick (makeup artist), and Seema R. (art history). That last one might seem odd but Seema is my favorite history teacher on the entire internet.
🧴I’m a skincare enthusiast who loves excellent products at an excellent price point. My favorite drugstore skincare brand for the last 3 years has been Naturium. I have followed the founder, Susan Yara, for more than 6 years on YouTube and she did not disappoint when she launched a science forward brand. My current favorite products that I have bought more than once and I’m never without:
Dew Glow SPF 50: This sits beautifully under makeup and gives me just the right amount of glow for my AGING VESSEL.
KP Body Scrub and Mask: Do you have chicken skin on the back of your arms like me or are you a Disney Princess? This keeps my rough and bumpy keratosis pilaris in check.
Retinol Body Lotion: Retinol has the most clinical research in regards to its effect on aging skin. And this is my go-to after I slough off the KP pork rind texture.
Retinaldehyde 0.05%: Speaking of retinol - this is the best you can buy over the counter - not just in price, but also in formulation. I use prescription retinol on my face but use this on my hands and neck - which is a tad more sensitive.
Note: The links in this specific treasure are affiliate links which mean you don’t pay one penny more, but I may get a few pennies to spend on skincare.

Yay!! Love that you’re in Substack, Jamie!
Hi Jamie, can you tell me when I should be using Naturium Retinaldehyde? I currently use cleanser then CoxRX BHA, then Clarins Double Serum, then Charlotte Tilbury magic cream all because you told me to in your little free sheet from your substack. (It has been a game changer! Thank you! I'm 90 days into taking care of my super old face for the first time and I am grateful to you!)
Does Naturium Retinaldehyde replace the serum? or go after? before?
