🍽 Lil Treasures #216: Self-Awareness and Kitschy Kitchen Aesthetic
Plus Medieval times, the Enneagram and being annoying
Whoah, it’s Friday! I can’t believe it’s time to circle back for another round of your weekly treasures.
I’ve been fighting maybe the worst sinus infection known to humankind, and two other Moons have been down this week (paid subscribers, this is why you didn't get an email from me this week, I was delirious with throat pain and accidentally splashed urine on a college student, I’ll tell you about it some other time.) Let me tell you, it has not been a fun hang. Anybody else in the same boat? I did get some meds and seem to be trending upwards, but ts and ps to everyone: it’s a jungle out there for our immune systems.
In brighter news, Lent starts this Wednesday! We’ll be studying The Sermon on the Mount by way of my study called Memento Mori.
You can tag along in the Swipe Up+ for $6 a month (Lent will last 2 months, so that’s only 12 bucks) and get devotionals in your inbox four days a week, plus access to the digital guide and the audio version, AND a community to engage with as you go.
OR you can go your own way (cue Fleetwood Mac) and snag one of the other Lent resources on my online store (don’t forget to use code LILSWIPES for a discount!)
If you’re a paid subscriber and want to take a break for Lent this year, that’s also okay! You can pause your membership (not cancel, of course) and rejoin in April when Lent is over.
Is money stopping you from joining? NO IT’S NOT. Email me (hello@erinhmoon.com) and I’ll take get you taken care of, no questions asked! I never want finances to stand in the way of anyone participating. Alright, I think I’ve covered all of our options. If you have questions or concerns, please email me. I would love to hear from you and to hopefully clear up any confusion out there!
As we get closer to Ash Wednesday, I’m beginning to process through what I want to fast from this year. But also of importance, I’m thinking through how I can access the pancakes I will consume before then on Fat Tuesday. I’m excited for both, and can’t wait to get started.
For now though, here are this week’s treasures!
🏎 Still getting over my high from Tracy Chapman playing Fast Cars at the Grammys this past week. If you’re wondering why this was a big deal for her to be there, this post about the Tracy Chapman + Luke Combs collab should bring you up to speed.
💘 We’re only a few days away from Valentine’s Day! If your significant other appreciates the power of words, a print of David's Gate latest poem might be the perfect gift to express your love (if you’re doing gifts….also totally fine if you’re just watching re-runs of your favorite show on the couch while sharing some chips).
🥹 I’m a sucker for a grown man who is comfortable with expressing his emotions, especially when it's Jason Kelce talking about the important of persistence.
🌟 Taylor Swift scooped up yet another Grammy for Album of the Year last week, which stirred up a whole heck of a lot of conversation (some good, some not so good) surrounding fame, privilege, etc. I wanted to highlight two excellent pieces that come out as a result if you’re interested in topic, the first being this essay from Anne Helen Petersen called “Taylor Swift and the Good Girl Trap” and this episode of NPR’s Code Switch about “Taylor Swift and the unbearable witness of girlhood”.
🍽 I’m throwing out the basic beige and embracing kitschy kitchen aesthetic this year. If you’re wanting to do the same and need inspiration, here’s an article with some ideas on how to add some fun to your cooking space.
❤️🩹 Big fan of this post from Case Kenny about the beauty of healing.
🎭 As if I wasn’t swooning enough, this post that points out all the ways that Taylor Swift is in her High School Musical era is tapping on all the cylinders of my little heart.
🧠 If the Enneagram is of interest to you, this post about triggers for each Enneagram type was particularly helpful to me.
💔 I came across this heartbreaking tribute to the over 12,000 Palestinian children that have now been killed in Gaza. Please God, make it stop.
💿 Turns out in addition to being beautiful and amazing, Zac Efron is also extremely self aware? We love a self-aware king!
🏰 If you are a fan of the Medieval ages, head on over to wherever you get your pods. for this week's episode of Faith Adjacent, where we’re talking with Dr. Grace Hamman, a real-life Medieval scholar, about all things Christianity in the Middle Ages!
Meme Hall of Fame:
Alright my bright and beautiful stars, that’ll do it for this week’s newsletter. Looking forward to seeing some of you early next week as we prepare for Lent together! Enjoy your Super Bowl parties (Taylor’s version) and particularly the snacks, and don’t forget to leave your treasures in the comments! I’ll see you back here next week 👋
I haven't been here in a minute because my life has been insane! After a long period of deterioration, my grandmother passed away last month. Just prior to that, I had signed up for an ice skating class that I had previously had to cancel. There was no way in hell I was cancelling again (sometimes your priorities can get a little wonky in times of crisis), so I had to stuff the classes in between trips home. I'm glad I did it, but that turned it into a less fun experience than I had hoped. Also I'm buying a house. Like, as we speak. It's a lot! Overall I've been pretty at peace about things. My last experience of losing a grandparent was very poorly handled by my family and my relationships with that side of the family have never really recovered. My mom did everything she could to make sure I didn't have to go through that again (all while dealing with losing her mom), and it's made a huge difference.
I've been catching up on Star Trek because my brain is trained to demand it when I am stressed, and the last season of Picard was incredible. I followed this up with reading Patrick Stewart's new memoir, which was a delight. I also rewatched the 1993 Disney live-action version of The Three Musketeers for the first time in many years, and it still slaps. I am convinced I'm the only person who's ever seen this movie.
I'm a vet and this is kind of a niche post, but I just thought it was rude to call me out like this: https://www.instagram.com/p/C3ElPTvOzDO/
I lean whimsical in interior design and just bought this delightful Pancake Wall Hanging (I don't intend to use it to hold utensils) just yesterday online! Can't wait for it to get here! Loved that article about the kitchy kitchen. No beige or gray walls around here!
