I haven't been here in a minute because my life has been insane! After a long period of deterioration, my grandmother passed away last month. Just prior to that, I had signed up for an ice skating class that I had previously had to cancel. There was no way in hell I was cancelling again (sometimes your priorities can get a little wonky in times of crisis), so I had to stuff the classes in between trips home. I'm glad I did it, but that turned it into a less fun experience than I had hoped. Also I'm buying a house. Like, as we speak. It's a lot! Overall I've been pretty at peace about things. My last experience of losing a grandparent was very poorly handled by my family and my relationships with that side of the family have never really recovered. My mom did everything she could to make sure I didn't have to go through that again (all while dealing with losing her mom), and it's made a huge difference.
I've been catching up on Star Trek because my brain is trained to demand it when I am stressed, and the last season of Picard was incredible. I followed this up with reading Patrick Stewart's new memoir, which was a delight. I also rewatched the 1993 Disney live-action version of The Three Musketeers for the first time in many years, and it still slaps. I am convinced I'm the only person who's ever seen this movie.
I vividly remember going to see The Three Musketeers in the theatre when it came out, and it was the start of my love for Oliver Platt! It also signified the end of my appreciation for Bryan Adams, because that theme song was absolutely inescapable in 1993. Iβm honestly still sick of it (but yeah, I still know every single word!)
I'm so glad someone else knows this movie. When you watch it as a kid, you think Chris O'Donnell is the heartthrob, and then you grow up and realize it was Oliver Platt the whole time. Bryan Adams was on a lot of soundtracks in the 90s, so I can definitely understand reaching oversaturation.
I lean whimsical in interior design and just bought this delightful Pancake Wall Hanging (I don't intend to use it to hold utensils) just yesterday online! Can't wait for it to get here! Loved that article about the kitchy kitchen. No beige or gray walls around here!
Happy Friday, Lil Swipes! I've been dragging all week, and I think it's because I finally started therapy, which is helping me AND breaking me at the same time. I grew up in a stoic German home, where expressing emotions was not welcomed, so I've been stuffing feelings for 59 years. And they all want to come out and play now?! But feeling things HURTS! I don't know how all y'all have done it all these years. This feelings stuff is miserable, but I'm hoping they get easier to bear with time. It was so much easier to just keep crazy busy and refuse to stop and feel things. So grateful for the empaths and people deep in their feels out there -- you are the real ones.
Happy Friday, lil swipes! We made it! It's been a long week and I'm so glad it's over. I've got plans tonight and tomorrow that I'm very excited about and they've been the thing getting me through the week.
We moved from GA, where I've lived my whole life, to NC last October. While I love my job and our new apartment, we haven't made any connections or friends and it's been really difficult. My husband is also still looking for a job so we're a bit stressed on that end. But, I've found a new book club that's meeting for the first time tomorrow so I'm hoping to make some connections there.
My husband and I have been watching through True Detective, which I've never seen but he has. I'm enjoying it a lot so far, especially seeing Rachel McAdams in a gritty role.
I also found a new therapist this week and found out my insurance is waiving copays for virtual visits so I get to start therapy weekly again for free! I am the biggest fan of therapy and am very excited to jump back in.
Thank you for the reminder Erin about contemplating giving something up for Lent. Right after my divorce years ago I gave up βfearβ for Lent. I agreed to drive to Mexico with the church youth group to support their Easter break mission trip. My van was hit from behind in Mexico (no one hurt) and totaled. Long story short, Lent is no joke. Iβm thinking of giving up self pity this year. But a little afraid of how the dying/living may happen π³
Happy Friday, we made it! I was do sitting half the week, so it' has felt rather long.
βWe are getting a brief winter weather reprieve here in Detroit, which is delightful! I went for a walk without a coat yesterday and it cheered my soul.
π My SIL and I are going to see Wicked on Tuesday! She's never been, so I'm delighted to be able to share this with her.
πI've been wearing all my pink clothes the last few days and I'm going to make a bright pink sweater this weekend. I'm hoping a regular rotation of fun colors will boost my mood a little bit.
I saw that first thing this morning and sobbed on my way to work. That's the song that gutted me when it was first released and hearing Brandi on the track was so healing.
This is my first ever comment in the Swipe Up comment section and your mention of Noah Kahan led me to it <3. He is so incredible. We're taking our two boys (6 and 11) to see him live in June and I can't wait! As far as the new version of Stick Season goes - I LOVE "Forever" and the two new collabs are some of the best.
Just catching on to Noah Kahan right now. My girls are going to see him in NYC in June and I've been enjoying his stuff when they put it on in the car. And how cute was he with his mom at the Grammys??

I'm a vet and this is kind of a niche post, but I just thought it was rude to call me out like this: https://www.instagram.com/p/C3ElPTvOzDO/

Sara, I resonate with all of this!

Moving to a new place is so hard. Hoping for good connections at the book club for you!

Forever jealous of people just whipping up their own clothes. Happy Friday, Eliza!
Noah Kahan released Stick Season (Forever) today and his collaboration with Brandi Carlisle is all I needed today π₯Ή
I saw that first thing this morning and sobbed on my way to work. That's the song that gutted me when it was first released and hearing Brandi on the track was so healing.
I needed it too! His new solo song βForeverββ¦damn. That bridge absolutely slayed my soul. π

Jess welcome to the comment section!
Thanks for the heads up on this. I love all things Brandi Carlisle
A couple of years ago, we put Rifle Paper peel & stick wallpaper up in our kitchen in the pattern Garden Party and I love it so much.
Have you seen that Target has a collaboration with Rifle Paper now? Everything is sold out but hopefully it will be back in stock
Yeeeesπ€€π«£
I have the same wallpaper in my kitchen!
Oh, yay, thatβs awesome!
If my walls werenβt so cluttered with pictures, Iβd do the same thing too. I love the garden party pattern!
