It didn’t feel appropriate to comment on today’s lent email with this particular message. ANYWHO, thank you Erin for your ministry of Bossy and Work It on this Thursday morning. Your playlist is a blessing to me.

ROFL I discovered Em's videos a few months ago on tiktok, and each and every AG is an absolute delight! I did lots of floor time in college, and later realized it was probably just me coping with anxiety. I'd lay on the kitchen floor and tell my mom about my day often.

Did I just miss the Stanley Tucci of it all?

I have not listened to the Barbie episode yet, but I have to tell you that I laughed really hard at the "play guitar at you" line, laughed harder at the campfire scene, thought to myself how grateful I was that I had mostly escaped that scenario, then nearly broke into a cold sweat when I realized that I hadn't escaped, I just got the "watch boys play video games" version instead. It was a journey.

I read somewhere that the reason that time feels like it moves faster as we age is because there is less day-to-day novelty. When we're kids, we're learning or doing something new with a high degree of frequency, but as adults we can sometimes have the same basic routine for years on end. I haven't fact-checked this and it's kind of a bummer, but it makes sense.

Question for the committee: does SJM have any stand-alone novels worth reading? I am not prepared to commit to a new series at this time, but a taste test would be helpful for future reading purposes.

I accidentally stayed up all night (literally ALL night) reading ACOWAR. My alarm went off and I thought, β€œWeird, why did I set an alarm for like 2:30AM?” I didn’t. It was 7:30AM and I had no idea. I was so tired that day but it was worth it

Yes to floor time! Whenever work gets overwhelming, I like to crawl under my desk, and lay face down for a bit. It’s really grounding and helps pull my brain out of the spin cycle! I share a home office with my husband, and he just comes to expect it every so often.

Did anyone else see the IG post with pics of Kate next to AG dolls in various outfits and how uncanny it was that she matched? I need to find it again!

Friends, I promise that I have support and I know that everything is a season but this month has been really hard for me. Earlier this year, I had to withdraw from college for health reasons and my mind misses being challenged and having a schedule. I've also been on nursing duty (at home) for almost three months now and I am up to my neck. Any good thoughts, prayers, or suggestions for staying sane would be so very welcome.

-Thank God for books! I have heard so many good things about ACOTAR and Dramione that I have decided that I must read the original Harry Potter series. I have been in a reading rut with fiction and this sounds like the perfect escape.

-A friend of mine keeps sending me the best IG profiles. I'll reply to this comment with them as I don't want the Internet to eat it. So far we have had a woman who seems like how I want to be when I age and a French gardener.

-Nan C Merril's Praying the Psalms. Y'all. The language that this book uses makes me feel like I am in a warm hug.

-I have been quilt-influenced in the best way by Evan Dodson and am now going to start volunteering with my church's quilting circle.

I was floor timing before it was a thing- I particularly enjoy laying down in an indoor sunray next to my Monstera plant. :) Have the best weekend available to you and I can't wait to catch up in the comments!

OG Floor Timer reporting for duty! I also sit on the floor a lot. Parties. Bookstores. (Just had a flashback to Borders. RIP 😒)

Erin- this was another great post. I am not ACOTAR (maybe summer?) Because I have too much to do and have to keep my wits about me. This seems like Book Heroin best experienced when I have timw/space to go on a bender, yes?

In our house we call them warmies, and seriously the best thing is when my husband yells β€œI'm putting on my warmies!”

Gah! β€œBetter is One Day!” Dying. I seriously thought of that and/or β€œIn the Secret” when I saw that scene In the movie. Lol.

My husband and I do β€œcultural exchanges” where we share books (read alouds), movies, music that mean a lot to us with the other. I have listened to a lot of heavy metal and a lot of science fiction. I shared Anne of Green Gables with him, and he got so invested, he named Gilbert Numb Nuts for giving up in his pursuit of Anne. My favorite reading session was on our front porch when they finally got together. My 40 something husband jumped out of his chair, threw the horns with both hands, and yelled, β€œWooo! Yeah! Finally, Numb Nuts!” 🀣

OK lots of dog care for us. So heres my list:

πŸ“Ί Rewatched Inventing Anna.

πŸ“» Listed to a lot of NPR

πŸ“š Got β€œDemon Copperhead” back from library so I can finish it, and my husband surprised me by ordering β€œHow to Walk Into a Room” and β€œField Notes for the Wilderness”

πŸ“° Which were lovely timing after reading more sad newsletters about bad church leadership behavior and the broken hearts that follow in their wake, as well as Kristin Du Mez’ depressing summary of the Christian Nationalist agenda. All I can think of is The Handmaid's Tale. πŸ”ΉοΈhttps://open.substack.com/pub/katelynbeaty/p/rez-acna-myth-of-the-extra-special-church?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=1vmrh

It's been a minute since I landed in these comments but I'm so delighted by Erin's change of heart on ACOTAR that I had to pop in today. I read the series last year and even though they were so bad they were just so, so good. I devoured them with equal parts adoration and side eye, which made for the best experience. I hated so many of the characters so much (mainly Feyre and her entire garbage family. I'd pick staying with Tamiln over Nesta and Elaine any day of the week.) and got a ton of laughs because I firmly believe that Feyre is a horrendous artist and no one has the heart to tell her how bad she is (this perspective makes the scene where she paints the cabin in ACOMAF so much better). Despite my side eye, I do own a sweatshirt that says "Suriel Tea Co." because we contain multitudes. I blasted through the Crescent City series December-February, and I'm currently on the library waitlist to finally read Throne of Glass.

A few other treasures for my friends in the comments this week:

If you loved the comments section on those Free People diaper shorts the other week, this try on will make you LOL: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C4dH44mOGN4/?igsh=MWkwNDhnMW15eDhvMg==

I think we might need a lil swipes movie night to watch Austenland... https://www.instagram.com/reel/C4b5CKhMvZY/?igsh=MXA4cTBpNmFpZ3UzZw==

I had to be grounded from reading for fun while I was in grad school, and after graduating, I was ready to jump back in full force. My best friend got me into ACOTAR, and let me tell you, I blame it entirely for the grip that the Fantasy genre has on me. Demolished Fourth Wing and Iron Flame. I read Jamie's greenlight, Road of Bones, and it was FANTASTIC. The next in the series came out last month, and it's waiting for me in my Kindle. I'm working my way through the Throne of Glass series and will absolutely be diving into Crescent City next. Welcome to the party, Erin!

I finished the Barbie deconstruction episode today and will definitely be re-listening. There are just so many good nuggets!

Also, just stellar memework. It's always good, obviously. But the way I cackled today.

I still have my Samantha doll! I wish American Girl released the same items for her like they did in 1992. What a time to be alive. Fun fact: In 1992, I wanted my parents to change my name to Samantha. Hahahaha

I too cannot believe it is mid March. Nor can I believe that the COVID shut down was 4 years ago. Time means nothing post pandi

Floor time is a very important thing in my life πŸ˜… as an anxious corporate girlie, I periodically get worked up about absolutely nothing. When that happens, I lay down on my floor and work on my breathing. It has never not helped.
