🐑 Lil Treasures #231: Certified Freaks + Jello Lamb Salad
Plus we're talking Polin, baseball moms and Krispy Kreme Chaos
Greetings and salutations! 👋🏽 As you read this, I am probably getting my wisdom teeth ripped out of my head: definitely something I should have done long ago, but alas. I thought waiting til 41 seemed like a better plan. So here's to a weekend of milkshakes and comfort shows and attempting to avoid the dreaded dry socket.
Not to dive right into the heavy stuff, but the deeply troubling things that are happening in Gaza (coupled with having to continue operating normally a summer schedule with kids) have me coming to you in a very depleted state today. I relate so hard to this post by Ashley Simpo.
I wrote about these feelings of hopelessness and the act of letting our broken/ breaking hearts steer us in the right direction on The Swipe Up+ earlier this week, borrowing from Taylor’s recent single, "You Should Do it With a Broken Heart."

Want to read the essay but not sure if you’re ready to commit? I know there can be very complicated feelings involved when it comes to living in the middle of grieving lives that have been unjustly lost while in the midst of wiping sticky hands and being a person. Email me and I’ll hook you up with a free sub, no questions asked.
As for now, let’s get to the treasures:
🎀 This article that interviewed different little girls who went to the American Girl store was both hilarious and so very tender.
⚾ I’m here for this group of baseball moms who made the most out of a dumb scenario. What a couple of legends!
😍 Why were old-school cartoon characters so weird and goofy when they happened upon a hot lady?
🫶 You’re never too old to be a Swiftie, just ask these Senior Swifties in the U.K. who did a photo shoot for each of her album covers! I need these photos in calendar form ASAP.
🍩 Don’t miss the newest episode of Faith Adjacent, taking the topics of College Confessions, Educational Mishaps, and Krispy Kreme Chaos for a spin. Happy listening, friends!
💚 I am both so thrilled to see the Wicked movie and also so nervous to see Ariana Grande starring in the film. Either way, I’m still going to see it and probably will not shut up about it until then. Regardless of my feelings, this feature in Vanity Fair made me so excited!
⛪ When I am sitting in church I am fully-focused and definitely not wondering about this constantly (even as an adult).
🍅 It’s tomato season, friends and foes! Please use this post as a guide and let me know your heirloom tomato name in the comments! I am proud to be Auntie Moon’s Evergreen Plum.
🎭 Give me a rooftop balcony and I will give you the performance of a lifetime.
🌡️ When it comes to taking time to process feelings and emotions, I find myself mainly thinking about feelings instead of actually feeling them. To be fair, I usually take this route more often than not. To help me get better at this, I saved this post that’s full of great tips and tools and looks to be an excellent resource for showing you/me how to move into practicing feeling if you struggle with this too.
🔥 This organ player at a Dodgers baseball game was an absolute savage.
🐑 Does your family have an archive of old shared recipes? Some are beloved, and some can be super weird. Like this one of a grandmother’s tuna fish jello lamb salad. Are people eating seriously eating that? I need to know.
🤸 This is me anytime I wonder why my kids act weird.
LETS DO THE MEMES!
Alas, we have come to the end of this week’s newsletter 😢. Until next time, pals! Don’t forget to leave your treasures in the comments below before you go. Bye!
Erin: I cannot emphasize this enough: do NOT use a straw for your milkshakes (or otherwise) for at least a week. Nobody told me this after my wisdom teeth got stolen from my face and I ended up w 3 dry sockets. Trust me: spoons are your only friend. Happy pain-med-induced-sleep to you.
Hey there - it's Dr. Ring's Speckled Darling here. Erin - what a treasure trove of goodies you have blessed us with this week! Thank you for curating such a basket full of delights. This week has been challenging despite the holiday. I rode on a bus for 17 hours to go pick up my daughter's car that we'd left in her college town, only to discover she had forgotten to leave the keys for it! And she had a flat tire. So, had to take an extra day off work, wait for her to FedEx the key down, fix the tire, then drive 8 hours back home. We are nothing if not chaotic.
The next day, I learned that my favorite cousin passed away after a short but brutal battle with cancer. His family has been such a light and a gathering place for family and friends over the years; it's heartbreaking to see them lose their husband/dad/grandpa. He was so solid in his faith in Christ through the past few months. In her last journal entry, his wife posted that she was crying about how this confounded cancer had won, and Mark gently corrected her and said, "No - I have won; I'm going home." Grateful that he is being welcomed into Jesus' presence and free of pain, but wow, we will miss him back here. Hug your loved ones and tell them how much they mean to you while we can. Love this community!
