🐌 Lil Treasures #233: Soulja Troy, Affirming Snails + Bánh Mì
Plus positive masculinity and the importance of extra butter
Greetings everyone 🖖
Welcome to another week of The Swipe Up newsletter! I’ll be your Tour Guide today as we embark on this journey to find some laughs, happy feelings, and the finest treasures the world wide web has to offer (at least that I could find).
If you have your own internet charcuterie board full of fun links, recipes, memes, etc - please make sure to comment below!
Ready to begin? Let’s go!
🧈 I feel like these reviews of potluck dishes were straight out of my childhood family get-togethers. Also note to self: never skimp on the butter.
🐌 Even the snails at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History are celebrating Pride Month!
😇 A new episode of Faith Adjacent awaits! This week we’re asking questions like “Which Bible characters would the cast of Bridgerton play” and “What does the Bible actually say about having a relationship with Jesus?”, among others. You can listen here or wherever you get your podcasts!
🛴 If you’ve ever lost a child out in public before, the newest Swipe Up+ guest essay Scooters, Search Parties + The Work of Returning will resonate deeply with you! The wonderful
wrote such a captivating piece and I have already gone back and re-read it twice. You know the drill by now: join us behind the paywall or simply reach out and email me if you want access to the newest post. Funds or no funds, I will be overjoyed to let you read it!🙅🏽♀️ Oh, the dangers of spilling the tea to your mother. You have to be careful out here in these streets!
🕺 This guy gave us the delight of a dance that goes with each song of TTPD. The smallest man who ever lived one sent me.
🍸 Here we have a modern-day oil painting for your amusement. All I can think of are the daily demands of a younger Baby Cy asking for “peanut butter jelly” on the reg.
👷🏽 I need more cat-callers to be like this guy when looking for love, respectfully.
🍷 Giveon gives big main character energy in this video of one of his shows in the UK.
🐝 If I walked into a tattoo parlor and they were watching Bridgerton I would fall out of my seat. And maybe be tempted to get another tattoo.
👨🏻 I’m always here for some positive masculinity, like in this video of compliments from dudes to dudes.
😉 If you need some tips for how to “rizz” up a girl for a date, church styles - I've got you covered!
🎧 Here's a little High School Musical 2 remix for your weekend. Crank dat Soulja Troyyyyyy.
🍼 I’ll be camping out a while on this post about parenting from Jessica Valenti. If you have thoughts, let me know in the comments!
Onward to the memes!
We have reached the conclusion of the treasures, ladies and gents. Also, can anyone else believe we’ve been doing the Swipe Up for 233 of these thangs? WILD. Anyway, drop your own treasures + turds in the comments before you go! Bye for now!
We just got back last night from “Epic East Coast Road Trip 2024” so all my treasures and turds will be travel related. It was a delight; it was not a vacation.
💎
- Bringing a cooler full of lunch stuff. Saved some dollars and forced us to stop when we were driving. 10/10 would recommend.
- Bringing my 3 bigs’ scooters for exploring DC. We saw way more of the Mall and memorials than we would have on feet alone. 10/10 would recommend.
- Picking restaurants for the first few nights in a city before you ever leave your house. This enneagram 9 gets decision fatigue real quick when there are too many choices. Have restaurants picked in advance ensured less hanger. 10/10
- Wilmington NC. Best beach we’ve ever been to (and we lived in San Diego for 5 years). 10/10
- Spray sunscreen. Only complaint is: can someone please make it in a bigger bottle??? We ran out in 2 days. 10/10 product; 5/10 size of bottle
- Hotel suites. 2 bedrooms = more freedom. We were a HIE family but this trip flipped us to Res Inn. Also, free breakfasts always.
- Gettysburg, I wish we had had more time. Love you, mean it.
- Staying with friends toward the end of the trip. Home cooked meals and other kids that can entertain your kids was a relief.
- Sliding Rock in North Carolina. Do not miss this if you are in the area. It was a highlight for all of us!
💩
- laundry
- parking ticket
- Air and Space Museum under renovation
- sun burn
- lack of sleep = lack of patience
All I all, though, it was a great trip. My kids were at the perfect age for DC and since we had just finished US history, all the historical significance of so many of the things we saw made sense to them.
Now, on to laundry, calendar-ing, and recovering. Happy weekend, all.
Happy Friday! Tonight is our summer library kick-off so this week has been madness. Yesterday I simply just left at 11am to go get myself a little treat. It did in fact make the rest of my day better.
Treasures:
😎 My co-worker and I have spent the past month rebuilding our teen volunteer program and tonight is kinda the launch. I'm so glad to be working with teens again and that all the front end work of this project is finally over. This has consumed my work life for a full month!
🏋🏼♀️ I've been trying to get back into a good exercise routine over the last month and it's finally happening. I'd forgotten just how good those endorphins are and it's just making life feel so much better!
📚 I recently read and enjoyed Missing White Woman, The Comfort of Ghosts, Funny Story, & Lush Lives
💵 My early evaluation went well and I'll get a raise in July! We're also randomly getting a bonus from the city this week which is nice
That's all from me friends, have a great weekend!
