I think I watched that TTPD dance comp 5 times. I'm crying. Incredible. 🫶🏼

Obsessed with those dances!

Also, the oil painting of an uncrustable - my husband discovered Noah Verrier last year and loves him. We have a print of his grilled cheese painting in our kitchen!

Man - that dancer just killed it! Swipes, It has been a weird, tough season in many ways. Here are some things saving my life these days:

🍉 Chopped watermelon in the fridge and freezer at all times so I can make watermelon salad for the potluck and boozy summer cocktails at a moments notice 🔸️ water infused with garden herbs and summer fruit so I do a better job at staying hydrated 🔸️ our drinkmate beverage sparkler, likewise https://idrinkproducts.com/ 🔸️”Healthy” versions of novelty ice cream and popsicle treats so us grownups with food issues can get a bit of nostalgia. Currently enjoying Johnny Pops freezer pops https://www.jonnypops.com/our-pops 🔸️an A&W in my area so I can get an actual dairy soft serve cone 🔸️ a random supply of Fancy Snacks in the cupboard so that I can throw together an emergency wine and talking about our feelings cheeseboard.

🌅 Tuesday trips to the library so I can pretend I'm in a Summer Reading program just finished The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue and The Bucolic Plague (a farmoir about the Beekman Boys)🔸️Shakespeare Thursday so we can still do Summer Shakespeare even though none of our local theaters are doing plays this year. 😔 watched Joss Whedon's Much Ado about Nothing and The Hollow Crown's Richard II 🔸️ Summer outdoor movies - tonight our winery is showing Almost Famous and next week our local art museum is showing Barbie 💖 (I am so hoping for an I'm Just Ken flash mob, I can't even function.)

🍅 Our kitchen garden is starting to produce, and every morning's inspection has me squealing over some new item - today the first Persian cucumber. 🔸️ Roses, Roses, Roses. I don't know what happened, but our rose bushes have gone bonkers this year. I've got jugs, jars, and vases of them all over the house. The heat is coming, so this will end soon, but wow, what a year! 🔸️We've gotten rid of all but a small patch of lawn, but one of my favorite things is playing with my dog in the hose. He loves it and is just so full of doggie joy every time we play.

🎨 I've been drawing and coloring in detailed pictures 🔸️ Ive got 2 acrylic paintings going 🔸️I'm taking my first steps in learning to paint watercolor - thank you internet! 🔸️ I have folded approximately 100 of these origami dad shirts for Father's Day. https://www.nianticchildrensmuseum.org/2020/06/fathers-day-origami-shirt-card/

I made mine out of 4.5x6.5 paper, so they are small - like business card size. They are so dang cute I can't stand it.

So there ya go. One week at a time. Looking forward to seeing what you've all got going on.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing!

So many lovely treasures! What did you think of Addie LaRue? I read it last year and loved it!

So good! Very iteresting idea and well written. (I've never read any of her other books.) It felt a bit Night Circus-y. I read it in 2 days and stumbled around in a bit of a daze afterwards. The perfect summer reading experience!

Yes, the best! I didn't make the vibe connection with the Night Circus, but you're right!

My library has an Adult Summer Reading Program (wait, let’s call it Summer Reading Program for Adults, sounds less questionable 😬). Anyway, maybe yours does too! We should all get a prize when we read our 10 books😁

I love this! I know there are bookstores doing this and giving personal pizzas. 😁

Those dances were amazing. And the parenting post is a much more articulate version of the soapbox I've been standing on for the last seventeen years, since I had my first kid. I've always had a deep skepticism of any system that claims to have the only correct way of doing anything (hi evangelicals, now you know why you lost me), and parenting culture is rife with that. Be kind and friendly to yourself and your kids as much as possible, and teach them to be kind and friendly. Ask for forgiveness when you haven't been K&F.The rest will sort itself out.

My fam and I are preparing for vacation on Monday, which is exciting, but also stressful, because where did ALL OF OUR MONEY GO?

I'm still reeling from my watch of Bridgerton S3P2. Part one had me in my feels, but part two has me all over the place. I laughed, cried, sighed, and "what the f***?ed" my way through this part. For me, as a book reader first, the end of the last episode with Francesca had me questioning whether or not I will continue the series, which breaks my heart a little.

I need to get on the Bridgerton train!

Happy Friday! Tonight is our summer library kick-off so this week has been madness. Yesterday I simply just left at 11am to go get myself a little treat. It did in fact make the rest of my day better.

Treasures:

😎 My co-worker and I have spent the past month rebuilding our teen volunteer program and tonight is kinda the launch. I'm so glad to be working with teens again and that all the front end work of this project is finally over. This has consumed my work life for a full month!

🏋🏼‍♀️ I've been trying to get back into a good exercise routine over the last month and it's finally happening. I'd forgotten just how good those endorphins are and it's just making life feel so much better!

📚 I recently read and enjoyed Missing White Woman, The Comfort of Ghosts, Funny Story, & Lush Lives

💵 My early evaluation went well and I'll get a raise in July! We're also randomly getting a bonus from the city this week which is nice

That's all from me friends, have a great weekend!

Oooh, as someone who literally works in a library, what did you think of Funny Story? 😄

Best of luck with your kickoff and the teen volunteer program! Both are so exciting!

We just got back last night from “Epic East Coast Road Trip 2024” so all my treasures and turds will be travel related. It was a delight; it was not a vacation.

💎

- Bringing a cooler full of lunch stuff. Saved some dollars and forced us to stop when we were driving. 10/10 would recommend.

- Bringing my 3 bigs’ scooters for exploring DC. We saw way more of the Mall and memorials than we would have on feet alone. 10/10 would recommend.

- Picking restaurants for the first few nights in a city before you ever leave your house. This enneagram 9 gets decision fatigue real quick when there are too many choices. Have restaurants picked in advance ensured less hanger. 10/10

- Wilmington NC. Best beach we’ve ever been to (and we lived in San Diego for 5 years). 10/10

- Spray sunscreen. Only complaint is: can someone please make it in a bigger bottle??? We ran out in 2 days. 10/10 product; 5/10 size of bottle

- Hotel suites. 2 bedrooms = more freedom. We were a HIE family but this trip flipped us to Res Inn. Also, free breakfasts always.

- Gettysburg, I wish we had had more time. Love you, mean it.

- Staying with friends toward the end of the trip. Home cooked meals and other kids that can entertain your kids was a relief.

- Sliding Rock in North Carolina. Do not miss this if you are in the area. It was a highlight for all of us!

💩

- laundry

- parking ticket

- Air and Space Museum under renovation

- sun burn

- lack of sleep = lack of patience

All I all, though, it was a great trip. My kids were at the perfect age for DC and since we had just finished US history, all the historical significance of so many of the things we saw made sense to them.

Now, on to laundry, calendar-ing, and recovering. Happy weekend, all.

Res Inn 2-bedroom suites for the win! We have 4 kids and LOVED when we could find them. (The suites, I mean, not the kids 😬) More space = more peace!)

I have been using this website called Wanderlog to prepare for our family trip to Asheville next week. We've been before, but having this site helps me organize where we are *planning* to go and gives me new ideas for places we hadn't seen yet.

omg I feel like I've been looking for this website my whole life.

🤍 I loved the TTPD dance video! Kinda perfect because I just got my official TTPD necklace in the mail and it fits my big neck perfectly and it’s easy to take on and off! Thank you Taylor!

💃🏻 I’m sure some of you already know but Kaeli Dance is one of my favorite TikTok follows and she has several hilarious videos on TTPD, specifically on rating the twerkability of each song. 😂

Ooh, I want to see pics of the necklace! I thought about getting it but I never wear necklaces, so I wasn't sure if I should.
