Lil Treasures #243: Butter, Harristotle + Positive Masculinity
Plus a guide to the Paralympics and what the heck does demure mean anyway?
Happy pumpkin spice szn to all who celebrate 🍁
Go out and order your fun little fall drinkie with pride this weekend, darlings! We’re allowed to enjoy the things that we like. I might even be so bold as to venture over to Krispy Kreme (not my donut of choice) and try their new Dr. Pepper flavored donut. One thing about me: if you slap Dr. Pepper on something, I’m at least going to try it.
Enjoy this week’s treasures!
💗 As if we needed another reason to adore them, this video really seals the deal in favor of the sweetest love story I’ve ever seen between the beloved Olympian/Paralympian Tara Davis-Woodall and Hunter Woodall.
🛑 If you’re reached a point of exhaustion or burnout and are trying to figure out if you should quit or take a break, you’re gonna want to listen to this episode of The Next Right Thing podcast with Emily P. Freeman! Emily does a great job of asking guided questions to help you come to the conclusion that’s right for you.
🍂 It’s about time to move on from Brat Summer to Demure Fall, and if you’re confused about how “demure” suddenly weaseled it’s way into every internet post, this post explains it all.
🧈 Have you ever stumbled across an item of clothing and knew instantly that it was meant to be? That’s how I felt when I saw this butter sweatshirt.
🫶 Listen, I was not prepared for this sudden movement of positive masculinity on display and frankly did not anticipate feeling so many things as a result. I mean, does it get any more wholesome than Gus Walz losing it for his dad at the Democratic National Convention? Two of my other recent favorites were these moments of dads and their kids at the Olympics: like Grant Holloway's dad screaming his lungs out and Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix (from Great Britain)’s dad taking the time to comfort her after she missed out on a medal. Keep it coming, sweet dads and emotionally intelligent men! I’ll just be here with my box of tissues.
💄 Ilona Maher pre-gaming with the cast of Moulin Rouge and then going full Miss Congeniality in this clip brought me so much joy.
🍅 As August draws to a close (already??), we’re taking all of your finest questions on the new August Office Hours episode of Faith Adjacent! There’s a buffet of topics ranging from VeggieTales, to Latin Mass and the best kind of food to bring to your small group. Listen to the episode here or wherever you get your pods!
🇫🇷 The Paralympics start on August 28, which is only a few days away! If you’re a first-time watcher, here’s a post with everything you need to know about the Paralympics.
🏈 There have been so many fun highlights from the DNC (it looks like it’s been quite the rager, to be honest), and one of my favorite clips so far was when some of Tim Walz’s former players from the Mankato West football team came on stage to show their support of their old coach. Did you know he led them to a state championship? I’m feeling some big Eric Taylor vibes from Coach Walz.
🔁 Not me geeking out when one of my favorite humans Jonathan Van Ness reposts a quote from one of my favorite internet pastors, Benjamin R. Cremer.
🤝 Many of us have watched the drama with Hillsong Church unfold over the last few years. It is extremely difficult to see something like that happen on such a large scale, but also so important to see the darkness brought to light so that restoration can begin. Former pastor Carl Lentz has (rightfully so) been off the grid to an extent after his fall, and it was interesting to hear his thoughts on what true honesty and accountability can do for the healing process. I want to believe but also cynicism! But also hope! But also I don't know!
🏛 This photoshoot of Olympic athletes in Parisian museums was absolutely fascinating!
The beautiful memes:
It’s been a delight to bring you these treasures, per usual. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you in the comments!

Happy Friday, all! We made it.
Just hopping right to the treasures:
🍁 Mornings in Kansas are cool and are giving me hope that permanent fall weather is just around the corner. 🤞🏼
📺 Hubs and I flew through One Piece on Netflix. It’s a live action version of a popular anime show. The storytelling is top notch, and the whole “chosen family” theme makes me teary. Highly recommend!
🦜 I am usually anti-bird, but we have a hummingbird feeder on our deck and the hummingbird couple that frequent it bring me a lot of joy. They’ve also grown comfortable with me, and yell at me when the feeder is empty. This makes me feel like a woodsy Disney Princess and also terrifies me; those beaks could poke my eyes out!
A turd and an ask:
My 10 year old recently got very sensitive about his body. He is built differently than his brothers (Defensive Tackle vs. Running Backs) and is starting to notice and feel bad about it. It makes my mama heart so sad. Does anyone have any body image resources or recommendations for boys?
That’s all for me. Hope you all have the best weekend available to you!
Three more days and then I have a week of vacation! Summer reading has been much more chill this year, but our August ref desk schedule has been madness.
🍂Beautiful cool weather this week! I love sitting outside in the mornings with a hot drink and it was finally possible again.
🧵I'm doing a tween embroidery program in a few weeks bc I'm always trying to teach other people to sew. Within 1 week the registration was full which is just so fun and encouraging!
💰My SIL has had some great updates this week in both her fertility journey and her job search!
🎤Our choir director has asked me to do a solo/duet for lessons and carols! I was hoping she would and I'm very exited, but also nervous. I love singing, but I also tend to avoid making myself noticeable. This was a big coping mechanism as a child that I'm realize I'm not done unpacking.
Have the mostly lovely weekend, friends!
