🎃 Lil Treasures #249: Adam Brody + Pumpkin spice wartime election eclipse hurricane season
Plus encores, introverted friends and some hurricane relief resources
Beloveds,
There are so many things happening right now (see subject line of this email), but I for one am thankful for the tiny gift of Adam Brody appearing back in our lives, this time as a hot middle-aged (and emotionally mature) man. In a time where there are too many deep/hard/frustrating things too process like, every day, I’m very pro-this resurgence of the beauties of our youth (see also: last week’s obsession with Joshua Jackson) making a comeback to our television screens. Seth Cohen forever.
Before we jump in to the treasures, I wanted to make sure to focus most of the energy in this week’s newsletter on our friends who are dealing with the devastation that Hurricane Helene left behind. It is heartbreaking stuff, and I truly don’t think we’re even seeing the reality of the extent of the damage (for those of you who have followed Danté Stewart’s, read about his family’s experience in Augusta, GA here.) From folks in Florida to Georgia, Eastern Tennessee and Western North Carolina, the damage is so widespread that it’s hard to know how to help (and where to help). If you’re looking for a few tangible ways to support those in need and donate some of your dollars, I’ve compiled a few places to start:
This personal account from Josh in Marshall, NC with a roundup of resources in the comments.
World Central Kitchen is providing warm meals in Florida and North Carolina.
Convoy of Hope has been on the ground doing a lot of disaster relief in Florida, but is now spreading their donation dollars to all areas of the Southeast that have been affected. I personally give to this organization and they do great work!
Our dear
knows the devastation firsthand as a resident of Asheville and recommended Beloved Asheville to support in that area.Natalie in Banner Elk, NC is accepting Venmo donations to continue to bring supplies to those in need in her town.
Eliza mentioned that over at Second Harvest GA is providing meals to those affected in south GA.
I would strongly suggest following Taylor Schumann on Instagram. She has been posting daily with several recommendations for widespread ways you can help.
If you have experienced loss as a result of Helene, I am truly so sorry. I’d love to continue adding to this “ways-to-help” list so if you have other suggestions, please drop them in the comments below!
This week’s treasures:
💯 My favorite human Ilona Maher just made the Time 100 Next list and I’m just so delighted and proud!
🌿 My dear friend and former editor Stephanie Smith has a new book coming out next week called Even After Everything : The Spiritual Practice of Knowing the Risks and Loving Anyway. This memoir will hit the shelves on October 15th, so make sure to get your pre-orders in ASAP! Because Stephanie is both an incredible human and writer/editor, she is lending her expertise and hosting a free memoir workshop for anyone who pre-orders the book on Oct 9 from 10-11:30am ET. If writing is something you are passionate about, I would highly encourage you to take advantage of this workshop. You can learn more about it here!
🤫 If you recently binge-watched The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, you will definitely enjoy the new episode of Faith Adjacent all about The Secret Lives of Christian Lives (and Husbands). In this episode, we’ll be going through different Christian stereotypes and determining which of them would work well on a reality show. Listen to the episode and join the chaos here or wherever you get your pods!
🪢 Are you a parent who is also in a season of deconstruction or “disentangling” in your faith? Meredith Ann Miller has several good suggestions if you’re feeling stuck on how to parent your kids while also untangling your faith.
🥜 Jimmy Carter is the first President in the United States to ever turn 100, and I think there’s so much to Jimmy that’s worth celebrating.

Alrighty folks, another Friday newsletter is in the books ✅ What do you say we continue this party in the comments? See you there!
Erin, I so desperately needed all of this today! Thank you thank you thank you!!!
I work for a large disaster relief organization and the things we are seeing and hearing from the hurricane are beyond devastating. Many people are saying this is just as complex, if not more complex, than Hurricane Katrina. I know the Carolinas are getting a lot of attention right now (as they should!!!) but I feel like the media is already forgetting about Florida, Georgia and Tennessee. Many of the families that were impacted by Idalia last year in FL were hit again by Helene and many don't have home insurance, or are underinsured. As we move closer to the election you will see less and less about the people still recovering from these storms. Please don't forget about them! Their recovery will take months if not years.
I hope Netflix has a few more seasons of Nobody Wants This lined up - because Adam Brody, Kristen Bell, and the ENTIRE cast killed it. Even when there was conflict - I was cheering on everyone. I'm here for the likeable antagonists.
