Happy Thanksgiving/Wicked week, beautiful Lil Swipes! 🦃🪄
I have been holidaying a good part of the last few days, so this week’s treasures will be short and sweet and (mostly) Jonathan Bailey-adjacent (please forgive me if that’s not your obsession at the moment).
Let me know if you saw Wicked already in the comments, and what your thoughts were/favorite parts (but be careful of spoilers for our friends who haven’t seen it yet!)
Grateful for you goons! Let’s get to the treasures!
🫠 I’m not trying to complain (okay I probably am), but trying to be cool and confident as a lady in your 40's is a real “adventure”.
🗑 Brett Goldstein talking about co-starring with Oscar the Grouch was an unexpected delight.
🪄 I definitely saw Wicked for the plot (I am a theater nerd, of course) but there were other reasons as well.
💃 Dancing With The Stars ended earlier this week and before I conclude my fangirling for the season, I needed to share this tribute from Alan Bersten, this post from Livie Maher, and this whole thread dedicated to the kind of impact Ilona had this season. I could cry. Who am I kidding, I AM crying!
💆 I really enjoyed this interview where Hugh Grant talked about acting (and physically fighting) alongside Colin Firth in a couple of their films.
🧹 (SPOILER ALERT) I audibly gasped during Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Manzel’s cameos in the movie and I’m just so happy they were included.
🦃 Whether you’re road-tripping for the holiday weekend, a dedicated shopper out there getting all the deals, or you’re just trying to put your ‘pods in to drown out the noise around you, don’t forget to cue up the newest episode of Faith Adjacent! This week we’re wrapping ourselves up in a blanket of Thanksgiving foods and history as we talk about The Messy History of Thanksgiving, A Thanksgiving Benediction, and Why Green Been Casserole is the Best Side Dish. Listen to the episode here!
🕯 Advent begins this Sunday! (Dec 1) If you’re still looking for a companion guide to walk you through these next few weeks, my Advent study on Isaiah 40 is on sale for a special discounted rate of 30% off at this link. Just use the code JONATHANBAILEY to get your discount!
Some memes, as a treat!
Alrighty folks, that’s all for now! I’ll be back next week with a more robust newsletter when we all return to our regularly scheduled programming. Enjoy your weekend!
I was so proud of Ilona and Alan even though they didn’t win (totally deserved to). Also, we need a buddy comedy reality show of those two!
Saw Wicked earlier this week. I did not want it to be good and I didn’t want to like it much less love it but here we are. Cynthia Erivo brings such a depth to Elphaba we have not seen before. I was emotionally wrecked afterwards and cannot stop thinking about it. I’m gonna have to see it again. Did you know Stephen Schwarz also makes a cameo?!! The way I clapped when our OG witches, Kristen and Idina, came on the screen!
Happy holidays!
Where is my emotional support Olympian to cheer for?? I had the Olympics and then Hunter Woodall and then my beloved Ilona and Stephen on Dancing with Stars.. and now..... NOTHING! There's an Olympic sized hole in my social media.
