š Lil Treasures #265: Snails, Amish Romance + Brain Laundry
We meet again for a Friday full of internet treasures!
Hello from the other side of Iāve Got Questionsā release! Itās here and Iām still alive! Other than the audiobook pre-order bonus delays and Amazonās lack of shipping speeds, it has been such a lovely few days of celebration (let me know if you didnāt get the email about the audiobook). There are so many flowers on my kitchen table right now and they make me smile every time I walk through there. Itās been a long time coming (insert Taylorās voice), but we did it.
To be honest, I have spent the majority of the last two weeks caught in a pendulum swing of excitement over life happenings and absolute dread from the new administrationās dumpster fire decisions. I wake up everyday feeling like I have whiplash, anyone else? I saw this tweet about doing ābrain laundry" and I have been trying to mentally adopt it for myself:
I hope this weekās newsletter will give you a few more of those lights to hone in on š«¶š» If youāll be at the Author Event at The Bookshelf in GA tonight, let me know in the comments! Iām absolutely thrilled to hit the road for this tour, and canāt wait to hug (or high five, if thatās your perogative) so many of you in person in the next few weeks.
I have some good little treats and a crap-ton of memes for you this week so letās get to it!
Letās do the treasures:
š« A very fun episode of Faith Adjacent, The NOs of Christian Books, is now available for your listening pleasure! If you love a good early 2000ās Christian Amish Romance (why was this so popular?), then you should definitely listen to this one. You can check it out here or wherever you get your pods!
š„ In lieu of the continuously breaking news that never seems to be super great, I resonate deeply with some of these feelings (a little good, mostly bad).
š“ I will never get over Chappell Roanās Pink Pony Club performance at The Grammyās this past week.
ā¤ļøāš©¹ Youāve probably heard the phrase āItās not religion, itās a relationshipā, but this video really breaks down how that is actually supposed to look.
š¾ This poem by Jordan Harrell about growing out of the boxes you grew up with is gorgeous and will make you feel things.
š¤ I really loved this video encouraging you to think about what your church would be like with a black Jesus on display.
š Just wanted to remind you again of the ways that World Relief has been making an impact around the world and helping families in need flourish. If you are looking for somewhere to donate your dollars where it matters, I strongly suggest donating to World Relief.
āØ Pre-Order bonuses are still available to everyone who orders before tomorrow (Saturday). You can grab your copy here if you havenāt yet! Amazon is being a jerk and delaying some orders, so my suggestion is to order from Baker Book House or another bookseller if you want it shipped quicker.
The world may be burning, but at least we have the memes!
Thatās it for the treasures! Canāt wait to read yours in the comments. I hope you know how much of a delight you are, pals! See you next time!
I appreciated the Jude 3 project video.
Iām a low decoupler myself ā if the people who taught me how to have faith go on to commit/cover up abuse in their churches, that is enough to make me need to reexamine every single thing they ever taught me, because what else were they lying about?
It is also kinda common to see autistic Christians online bristle at things like āitās relationship, not religionā (because relational skills are often difficult for us, but systems/history/theology are more in our wheelhouse). Itās easy for me to hear āso the thing Iām specifically disabled at is the important and valued thing, and the thing Iām fascinated by and good at is not valued, cool cool.ā It was nice to hear it clarified in a different way in that video, even if I still canāt get my head around my relationship with God being a separate thing from the actions of the body of Christ.
Erin - congratulations on your book release and all the celebrations that go with it. I'm sorry that the destruction of the American democracy had to happen at the same time, but we're all still excited for the book and for you! I cannot imagine the time, thought, rework, edits, and commitment that you put into this work. I just got my copy - excited to dig in!!
