💐 Shania Twain, seasonal depression + corndog bouquets: Lil Treasures #310
Plus, a few resources to help meet some needs for our friends in Minnesota
Happy Friday to you and yours, Lil Swipes!
I know how surreal it must be to watch the unraveling of this country and still go to work and put dinner in the crockpot and carry on as if life is normal in the slightest. I feel a mixture of grief and rage waiting to rise up to the surface at any given moment.
If you are looking for ways to channel the rage or grief YOU might be experiencing into good, helpful action, check out a few of these ways you can help our friends in Minnesota today:
Here’s the link to a GoFundMe for families in Farmington, MN impacted by ICE. This particular fundraiser is supporting families with children who are grappling with the effects of recent immigration action, and are facing loss of income and housing instability (among other things).
Many of you probably stumbled across the heartbreaking photo of Liam (5 years old) below, who was used as bait for ICE to detain his parents as he got home from preschool. A lovely internet friend has kids who attend school with Liam, and said the families in the community where he lives are in need of a lot of support. Find out how you can help Valley View families here.
I shared this on Instagram but I’m dropping it here too: one tangible way you can always help is by giving to EveryMeal. They do boots-on-the ground work to help respond to food needs in communities that suddenly need them due to situations like the one in Minneapolis. Many people are not able to leave their homes or get groceries for fear of being detained (citizens and non-citizens alike) and are facing major food shortages. EveryMeal helps meet needs for people who are in the midst of that struggle.
My friend Lindsey Froemming pointed me in the direction of another Amazon list that is working to support children whose parents have been taken. Some of these things…I’m not allowed to share the situation behind the ask (it’s just too sensitive), but please know I trust all these folks.
Also, if you know of other ways to serve and help the communities near Minneapolis, please drop your suggestions (along with your treasures) in the comments below:
We also have time for a few internet goodies, of course!
💐 Our beloved country queen, Reba McEntire, received a bouquet made of corn dogs at her 40th Grand Ole Opry anniversary party and I just think that’s really beautiful.
⚰️ The newest episode of Faith Adjacent is all about the new movie Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Story. Have you watched it yet on ye ‘ol Netflix? If you’re a fan or simply love to hear mine or Evan’s voice, don’t miss our conversation about the movie and any faith aspects we may have picked out by listening here.
⚡ The amount of times I catch myself trying not to wish that God would smite somebody is a little embarrassing.
🧀 This little carousel full of food tweets that Livie Maher put together is my new obsession. The fart tacklebox absolutely sent me.
🎙️ Not that you should listen to other podcasts other than Faith Adjacent, but IF YOU DID, Jennifer Lawrence as a guest on the Good Hang podcast was a treat for the ears. Listen to the whole episode to hear her belt out some classic Shania Twain, you won’t be sorry you did.
🍟 It’s Q+A week on The Swipe Up+! I’m answering some questions from some beautiful humans and also sharing about perfumes and things that are enabling me to continue Surviving/Thriving/Collapsing in my everyday life right now. This one’s a paywalled essay so you can become a monthly subscriber to read it, or send me an email to read it for free, zero questions asked.
Another newsletter in the books! I’ll see you and your treasures + turds + resources in the comments. If bad winter weather is headed your way this weekend, please be safe and stay warm! I hope you are surrounding yourself with pleasantries in the midst of the chaos, dear friends 🫶

Using kids as bait is straight Villainy 101, so I don't know what to tell people who still think these folks are ushering in a "Christian" nation. I feel like I've had about 10 straight years of "seasonal" depression at this point, and it's gutting to know that the only pill for that is getting people to act right or starting to not act right myself. ☹️ANYWHOODLE I am 100% running on adrenaline from the fear of losing out power tomorrow because we've been told to just expect it, and while we are SO LUCKY we have a generator so we can run some small heaters and our fridge, I do worry about everyone who doesn't - especially the unhoused people in our community, of which there are many. Walmart is sold out of propane heaters, hot hands, camp stoves, bread, milk, etc and it's giving me the same panic I got from covid and Helene and that's too much panic for 6 years. 😩 I guess I just have turds. Anxiety turds. 🥴
Thanks for sharing ways to help- feels stupid to just click a few buttons- and now I’m going to pray some Psalms talking about smiting people 😎
