It makes me so happy that you're friends with Lindsey, as a Minnesota girl who currently lives in Birmingham. ❤️ Thank you for all you're doing to help and do good.

Thank you for giving me a way to give my grief and rage power for good. This internet can bring a lot of chaos and grief, but it is also such a great way to make anyone anywhere your own neighbor and show up for them wherever you are. Thank you for connecting us. 💙💙💙

2026 has so far not been my fave. I cant even process MN and how so many of my fellow countrymen think that is ok. It is not. And my new HVAC system broke after 1 month of use and needs a component, which is taking a week to arrive. And my dog was diagnosed with diabetes and our lives are upended as we try to care for her. And my cousin died earlier this month which had meant engaging with my complicated family and all the emotions that go with that. What is good? Space heaters and electricity to run them. Crockpot meals. Flannel sheets. Tea. Books. I'm doing the Wolf Hall slow read with Footnotes and Tangents, and it is so good! Knitting. Playing cards games after dinner on a random Thursday night. All Creatures Great and Small on PBS. Daydreaming about a possible new business. Funding the perfect shoes to go with my "Chic Grandma" outfit. They're Clark's! 😊 A new haircut. My little green new-to-me mini Cooper. My morning prayer group. My Tuesday Bible Study. My book club. My knitting group. My husband. Discovering that Total Eclipse of the Heart is part of a German Vampire musical

Why did no one tell me this?

This article about neighbors loving neighbors in the face of inhumanity:

What a time to be alive, y'all.

Goodness, that is a lot to weather. Sending you a hug ❤️ What are you currently knitting and loving?

Dawn's avatar

Right now just scarves as I practice new techniques. One is ribbed and one has cables. I've got more scarves than I need so I will donate them to our foodbank.

Mary's avatar

Oooo cables! Was that your first project with them? I haven’t tackled them yet. 😅

Dawn's avatar

Yes. And im glad I did because it takes awhile to get the tension right etc. They are not nearly has difficult as I expected. You should go for it!

Mary's avatar

Thanks for the encouragement! I’m thinking of trying a socks with cables pattern to dip my toes in (pun intended, hehehe).

Just wanted to say THANK YOU for sharing Minnesota resources. It was so encouraging to click on the gofundme and see that they were no longer accepting donations because they had reached their goal. I donated to the other 2 links and wish I could have said “sent by Erin Moon who is the best of us!”. Stay safe and sane this weekend y’all 🩷

Good Hang with Amy Poehler is in my Thriving category - probably until Amy decides to call it quits.

It's yet more proof that Leslie Knope should be in charge of everything.

Mary's avatar

"You used to love that stuff, dude!" 😆😆😆😆

I didn't know until today that Ilana Maher's sisters are ALSO incredible. Their parents need to spill the tea on how they raised such amazing women!

I know we don't listen to other podcasts, but Amy Poehler has me looking forward to Tuesdays like they're an actual holiday. J. Law's interview was so delightful. Nothing like watching two strong, badass women be total dorks together and have the best time.

The windchill here in MI is currently -9, and it's been a holy thing to see the number of people who turned out this afternoon to protest in Minneapolis. It's so disorienting to be so utterly disgusted with the government, and also moved daily by how local communities are showing up for their vulnerable neighbors. I also rallied my lil shy self and called my Republican Rep several times this week! I should probably ask the staffer who answers the phone what his name is since we're likely going to be having a lot of interactions in the weeks/months ahead. 🙃

Some things bringing me joy this week: my knitting projects, my tween daughter and our shared bits/jokes, watching delightfully dumb videos on 2nd Try with my husband in the evenings, PMG podcasts, and all the sunshine we're getting despite the bonkers cold.

Keep on keepin' on, friends! ❤️

The sunshine in spite of the bonkers cold has really kept me going this week!

I was served an ad for The Testament of Ann Lee, which looks interesting, but the treasure is that it led me down a rabbit hole of listening to Shaker Hymns, which are really fascinating. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2Gy0FDekwMoTuNyIfkSBpA?si=gpYSHGZLQQijhRLqCaC0Gg&pi=IkenmxKYTcCQa

Sounds like something that happens to me daily. My ADHD has been ADHDing badly lately and I have fallen in soooo many rabbit holes lately I can't even keep up.

Our hearts are heavy and souls weary because of what’s going on in Minnesota as well as the world.

It’s been a rough week. However, I’m in a musical (Annie) and we’ve had two weeks of rehearsals and this show is gonna be GOOD. It’s also not lost on me the subtext of the song Hooverville (about Herbert Hoover) and Roosevelt’s new deal. It’s politically charged in the most subtle of ways and I am here for it!

I am also very tired. It’s been 6 years since I’ve done a musical and while it’s fun, we tired. 😂 6 more weeks to go!!

Rachael's avatar

Our local children's theatre did Annie this past December and it was SO ON THE NOSE. (ASIDE: Ms. Hannigan, or any nun from the sound of music, are the only two roles I ever want in a musical!!!) anyway, thanks for bringing the show to your community and break a leg!

Meredith Agan's avatar

I auditioned for Hannigan but my friend got it and honestly, she’s gonna crush it!

Rachael's avatar

I love that you get to do this with a friend!!! For me, I just feel like I have so many wasted youth years of drunk talking experience I could really throw into my performance 🤣🤣🤣

Thanks for sharing ways to help- feels stupid to just click a few buttons- and now I’m going to pray some Psalms talking about smiting people 😎

I wish I could share with y'all the photos my contact in MPLS shared with me. An INSANE amount of boxes that are filled with books in Spanish, shampoo, deoderant, tampons, everything. All of it going to support families who need it right now. It means something, even though it feels so small. Thank you Grace!

Using kids as bait is straight Villainy 101, so I don't know what to tell people who still think these folks are ushering in a "Christian" nation. I feel like I've had about 10 straight years of "seasonal" depression at this point, and it's gutting to know that the only pill for that is getting people to act right or starting to not act right myself. ☹️ANYWHOODLE I am 100% running on adrenaline from the fear of losing out power tomorrow because we've been told to just expect it, and while we are SO LUCKY we have a generator so we can run some small heaters and our fridge, I do worry about everyone who doesn't - especially the unhoused people in our community, of which there are many. Walmart is sold out of propane heaters, hot hands, camp stoves, bread, milk, etc and it's giving me the same panic I got from covid and Helene and that's too much panic for 6 years. 😩 I guess I just have turds. Anxiety turds. 🥴

Dawn's avatar

10 straight years. Amen, sister. And I feel I may need to use the phrase anxiety turds now... Hang in there!

Erin H Moon's avatar

Listen, turds are real and they need to be processed. I'm praying this storm isn't as bad as they are saying it will be!

Thanks so much for sharing some tangible ways to help in MN. Zach and Amy Lambert posted a way to provide support as well on their substack post “It could have been me” on Public Theology.

Love those Lamberts big time!

Today as a volunteer community organizer and a follower of Jesus’s teachings in Richmond, VA - I am joining with MN on a prayer call. It’s something I can “do.” Praying with my feet.

Thank you for sharing this, Jenn!

“A follower of Jesus’s teachings.” YES. It’s a struggle to call ourselves Christians, given the behavior of many who call themselves that.

Sloan's avatar

I was shocked that Amy Poehler didn’t know who Shania Twain was!

Like girl what are you listening to when it's time to kick the doors down?
