I’m trying out a firm 1 hour limit on my social apps and I’ve read so many more books and long form articles. Is my brain rot reversing? Too soon to say, but regardless my treasure of the week is a little fanfic called the Devil Works Hard which might have ruined all other fiction for me for a while.

I’m a little late to the party so my Olympic viewing has begun and I gotta say, catch the replay of the men’s downhill skiing. These badasses are going down a steep mountain at sometimes 90 mph, a speed I don’t care to see when I’m fully surrounded by air bag, seat belt, and fully automobile, let alone just a spandex suit. The new drone shots that follow the skiers are so fun and intense.

Drones usually give me the heebie jeebies, but I've loved seeing the little drone buddies in the Olympic events! It cracked me up to see them trying to keep up with the luge athletes' runs.

Ooh I haven’t seen the luge drone shots yet! Excited to check that out!

Very excited for the Olympics. I love the biathalon. It feels very Oregon trail to me. Ski a lot and then shoot something. My treasure of the week was that I happened to be in Puerto Rico and got a Bad Bunny Super Bowl tshirt. The joy when I spotted it!

Lil Treasures is my favorite Saturday morning ritual. I don’t have the time on Friday to really take my time and enjoy it, so I save it for my Saturday morning coffee.

Thank you, Erin, for making my weekend mornings brighter. 🤍

Love this, Lindsey! Happy Saturday!

We are gearing up for round two of Mardi Gras balls this weekend! I bought a king cake (second of the season) and mini muffaletta sandwiches. Obviously we live Mardi Gras in southeast Alabama and it has grown exponentially over the past 10 years. Our parade is next weekend and we call it The Happiest Day in Dothan!

Also, y’all need to watch the new reboot of the Muppet Show. It’s what our nation needs right now.

Listen, there has never been a better time to be a figure skating fan. The US is fielding (rinking?) our most well-rounded team in decades. The international women's field is so deep it's not even funny (including our own Blade Angels, obvi - https://www.instagram.com/reels/DUV4myyDv1H/). Remember at the last summer Olympics when we all had so much fun watching gymnastics because it was mostly grown women in grown bodies doing what they love with agency? That's basically what's happening in women's figure skating right now. PSA that Adam Rippon is a great Olympics-season follow and also has some good Figure Skating 101 videos.

There is one thing I have to be a Debbie Downer about though, which is the top French ice dance team who are a medal threat. A good summary of the situation is here: https://www.instagram.com/sportswithlogs/reel/DUOeQ5Vj_nR/. I have not heard one single commentator all season discuss the issues surrounding this team and in fact they have received a completely uncritical and even fawning reception. As much as it seems elite sports are trying (sort of, sometimes) to improve how athletes are treated and protected, ice dance specifically seems to be lagging behind.

Thanks for sharing the hygiene wish list!

"...we all must assimilate, which is why Johnson gave that answer in perfect Ojibwe." OHHHH DAYUUUMMM STEPHEN 🙌🏻🔥

I loved that the brother in the Barbie funeral video was wearing cleaning gloves, and had the kindness to excuse himself when he couldn't keep it together anymore. True sibling love, right there.

Erin, thank you for sharing Ben Cremer's post. I had never heard that interpretation of Revelation before, and now my head is spinning (in a good way!).

Treasures:

- I woke up this morning and remembered that the Opening Ceremonies are tonight, AND Taylor's Opalite video came out. (The latter is incredible, 10/10.) I don't know if there are better ways to start a February weekend!

- My daughter turned 11 yesterday, and we're having a birthday party tomorrow with a handful of her friends. She requested pizza and a pineapple upside down cake for food, and tie-dyeing shirts and watching a Star Wars movie for the activities. I freakin' love her! The tween years can be a lot sometimes, but realizing that she's become someone that I genuinely enjoy hanging out with is a true gift.

The tween-teen years are a different kind of great. Have the best time; this party sounds bangin.

I love reading this on a Saturday morning (I'm from New Zealand so I get this a day late) and the guy drinking Grapico for the first time was a New Zealander too. He said us Kiwis not Fiji 🤣🤣 (its our accent). And maybe its because of me being g a Kiwi that I didnt get the baked beans bit, can I get an explanation please?

RunninonMT's avatar

I read this while working on getting my toddler down for nap. Tried so hard to stifle my laughs but the baked beans and jimmy eat world treasures sent the chortles clear outta me. Well done. WELL DONE.

If you still have any remaining, I'd absolutely try a Cup of Jo subscription!

I have been counting down the days to the Olympics - I'm 35 weeks pregnant and barely walking around my apartment, but darn if I can't wait to think that maybe I could excel at the biathlon or bobsled with just a little bit of training. My husband and I also read the NYT article about Jessie Diggins and her incredible pain tolerance that I might have to reread before giving birth!

I can't wait for Olympics! And the best thing is that my 15 year old son asked me last night if we were going to watch the Opening Ceremonies together. (We probably haven't watched anything other than reels together since the last Olympics!) And I'd love a Cup of Jo subscription, if possible.

My daughter overheard her boyfriend telling a friend that we are “an Olympics family,” and my daughter was so thrilled. Treasure #1 this week is that the Keep the Flame Alive podcast ladies are reporting from Milan already and it is a delight as always. I promise you, this is coverage you will not hear anywhere else. Also, as big fans of women’s hockey, we watched the first match last night, and it’s so fun to pick out all the women we’ve been watching in the PWHL. This afternoon, we head to our local university to watch their women’s team play and it’s “Olympics Day,” so fun! And treasure #2 is the most recent episode of the Outdoor Minimalist podcast (don’t be turned off if you’re not into outdoorsy stuff!), called We All Play a Role in the Resistance. If you’ve been doing work that maybe doesn’t look like everything you’ve been seeing/hearing/reading about, this might be as encouraging to you as it was to me.

Oh I haven't heard of this podcast! Gonna check it out.
