I spent today at a farm that does ethical animal encounters. I got to pet cabybaras!! I got to hold a baby capybara!! I saw otters and a sloth and baby goats (20 of them!!) and baby alpacas! It was MAGICAL!!
🍹Weekly summer beverage(s) - berry and rosemary infused water, tiny sodas, and the Starbucks Tropical Butterfly Refresher https://www.instagram.com/p/DXFC823FCLV/
💿Weekly Music - Steely Dan "Can't Buy a Thrill" - I am learning that Steely Dan lyrics are for old white dudes what TSwift lyrics are for Millenial women
📚 Books: "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" (getting ready to read "Sunrise on the Reaping"), "The Book of Hope" (A long interview with Jane Goodall about having hope in the midst of all the disasters.)
📜 We are "studying" Homer (not really) and started reading Emily Wilson's translation of The Iliad. I like it. Much easier to read than other ones.
😭 Stephen Colbert hacked my cry with his goodbye song:
I stayed up most of the night reading The Found Object Society and my brain is just still whirrrrrrring over “it meant this” and “oh it was saying this” about grief and selfishness and privilege etc etc so thank you. A treasure truly to ponder that much on a book haha. Also it gave me REALLY weird dreams.
We are ending early for us on June 23. We aren’t even done school sports yet, so I will continue to cheer for my daughter’s flag football where I don’t entirely know what’s going on but I just know they don’t suck this year. My treasure was watching a lady stop rush hour traffic this morning to help ducklings cross the road. She was doing God’s work as they did not have any self preservation and kept running back into traffic.
I have a can of the Agape energy drink in my fridge as we speak (peach flavor). Someone was passing them out at an event my kids and I attended, and we all felt weird about 1) accepting it, 2) saying "no thank you," 3) drinking it, and 4) throwing it away. I guess it will sit there until we die.
Wow, I was hoping the energy drink post was somehow satire. Of all the things we need right now and yet THIS exists. Imagine a Pompeii-like event happens and centuries from now people are trying to understand your fridge Jesus drink. 🤪
Anywho, my oldest finished his last exam yesterday and is now a junior. 😳my baby has a half day and will then be a 5th grader. Their school is 1-12th and the seniors always do a walk through the grammar school in their cap and gowns, high fiving the younger kids. I got REAL emotional watching the video knowing my oldest will walk those halls in 2 short years and high five his little brother. 😭😭😭😭
Anyway, this week has been a beast and I’m ready for the beach and doing nothing for the next few days!

That sounds so amazing!!!
If anyone wants to see pictures, I'll post some when I get home! I'm @rileym_45 on Instagram and it should be public? I think?
Welcome to Summer, Erin!
I also have the nervous system of an electrocuted subway rat, so am glad we started our summer a week early. Week 1 went really well, other than my husband and I getting into a dumb argument that could be summed up by this meme (https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fdonald-fagen-would-be-grumpy-v0-1ci5555l42ng1.jpeg%3Fwidth%3D800%26format%3Dpjpg%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3D23394e4ef2853808972e98e68baf2cd8a3e34573) (Bless our hearts.)

Hooray Summer!
Wait, I am both a Steely Dan and Yacht Rock fan… is that allowed?
Also, this is a superb list of treasures and quote inspirational. Thank you for sharing 🩷
Overdue pod did a great series on Emily Wilson's translation of The Iliad if you want some fun conversation for your Homer studies.
Oooh! Yes, please! Thank you!
