Thank you, Erin, for including that article about Kobe and Gigi. I've been battling extreme anxiety surrounding my family's safety lately (like, afraid to leave the house) and it's slightly comforting to know that worry is what mother's do. I have also been thinking of those final moments between father and daughter. I am filled with peace knowing that she had her daddy by her side for what was the most terrifying thing a person can experience. Father's have a way of filling us with courage and making us feel held and loved. I suppose that is a good reminder to myself to seek my heavenly Father in times of fear.

P.s. Jerry's mat talk is life-giving. Thank goodness for people like him in these heavy, dark days.

Man The Good Place finale last night was the best thing to happen all week. It was such a good ending to an (overall) great show!

Its a simple joy, but #mommawhen on Instagram. I don't know the creator, @jasminkaset, but her depictions of Steven Tyler always make the laughing. TGIF!

The Hamilton movie is just what I needed this week! Life has been intense. Thank you for being my sole connection to the outside world.

Also, I'm submitting a short story to a contest! Exciting! Nerve-racking! If there are any spelling errors it's just cause I'm fried from writing it.

So my 8yo daughter who loves anything cute (puppies, otters, babies, pretty dresses, glitter, unicorns, etc) loves Baby Yoda and Porgs, as does any human with a heart but she dislikes sports. We got her this shirt for the Super Bowl this weekend.

The only thing in this newsletter that I know about is Kobe Bryant. Have I been under a rock for the past month? (Perhaps I have - life has been chaotic.) How have I missed Cheer? Hamilton the Movie? The little Shirley Temple guy? (What's the deal with him?)

Erin, I did not miss your modeling shoot yesterday with that DOPE lipstick! I love me some Sephora lippy stuff! (You looked STUNNING!)

Wow. The Kobe article. So true. I have been having conversations with my 17yo son lately about how I want him to live the high-school-life he wants, but also how my #1 priority is his safety, no matter what choices he might be making. I may have him read this article. Parenting truly is having your heart walking around outside your body.

My blood pressure drops every time I see this email in my in-box. Erin, you are a treasure to us all! Thanks for squeezing us in in the midst of your crazy week! Also, are you going to Honduras too?

1. Finished Sarah Bessey's Miracles and Other Reasonable Things in the car outside the library this morning because I had to turn it in before work to avoid a library fee, lol. It was so good!

2. As a Mizzou J-School grad, I found today's episode of The Daily with the executive editor of the Times reflecting on their 2016 election coverage fascinating.

3. The episode of the Lazy Genius from a few weeks ago about planning our time this winter floored me when Kendra talked about examining what we're avoiding when we're wasting time. Maybe we're avoiding something we think *should* matter, but doesn't. AKA I need to take "dust window blinds" off my to-do list right now because I've been avoiding it for a month and just realized that's because I feel like I *should* dust my blinds periodically, but in reality I do not care about that at all. Bless you, Kendra, for this freedom.

Oh that article about Kobe and his daughter. All week all I've thought about was did they know? And to have to look at your daughter with you and what would you say to her? It's heartbreak on top of heartbreak.

As the proud owner of a discrete "It's Quiet Uptown " tattoo, I may or may not be also overjoyed about the Hamilton movie 😉

My local theater put on "The Great American Trailer Park Musical" and I laughed in delight at the ridiculousness and at the range of the music and the talent of the entire cast. Worth looking up on youtube if you need an adult laugh - the finale is I'll Make Like a Nail and Press On :D

A brilliant woman I go to Bible study with (@hey-tra) created a calendar for white adults to educate themselves during Black History Month. Each day has a brief reading/activity. I’m so thankful for this resource!!!

1.) OMG NEEED HAMILTON NOW.

2.)I'm trying to get my finance life on track with YNAB - huge learning curve but I'm liking the system so far - also: I'm a student so I got a free year subscription, so pro-tip there to anybody in school!

3.) I was introduced to Morgan Harper Nichols' writing on insta recently, and this post this week https://www.instagram.com/p/B76EPdcAIJ_/ was timely - the Waiting one has been helpful in helping me BE CHILL about the Boy. (date was fun. we didn't fight. I didn't have to leave town. still talking. I don't know what's happening?)

Revealing my age (43 and proud) and maybe the oddity of midwestern supper clubs (my grandparents owned one and then my dad did as well), but I remember when Shirley Temples were called "Kiddie Cocktails" which wow, I can't believe I survived being a child in the late 70s/early 80s ;)

Hamilton movieeeee YES. I’ve been wondering about that! Also will be seeing it 18 million times and owning it as soon as I can.

This week I finished reading “The Whole-Brain Child” by Dan Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson - such a helpful read. I’m really grateful for these resources as a mom of a toddler & infant. Understanding how their little brains work changes everything.

Audrey Assad’s new single “Shiloh” is fantastic. She’s been posting on Instagram about healing from trauma and it’s so, so good. For example: https://www.instagram.com/p/B7-BMfVJ2kj/?igshid=1dgja4rkbltiq

Happy weekend, y’all! ✨

1. @prayersfromterry on IG is my new favorite follow.

2. Chris Thile is coming to my city and I've been revisiting alllllllll of his music - I could listen to him and Nickel Creek all day long.

3. This is a weird one, but yesterday I discovered that the "prongs" on the bottom shelf of my dishwasher can be laid flat, and it CHANGED MY DAY. My crock pot could lay flat and get shiny clean! Guys, I've had this dishwasher for FIVE YEARS. HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS?!?!
