I've already teared up multiple times today, simply because of the hope of it all.
🎶 Still Wonderful by Johnnyswim continues to be a light. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dlQt5nEMqM I don't know if I'll ever be over the line "hurt and hope, watch as I carry both"
I'm debating putting up my Christmas tree while watching Hamilton this afternoon - it just feels right. Sarah and Beth from PantsuitPolitics are on HotMic tonight, if that is something you're interested in.
Forewarning: I'm going to do a horrible job explaining because i'm still learning to navigate it, much less describe it, but I'm gonna try.
It's kinda like crowdcast (but in app form) in that you can watch live streams and participate in a comment section on them. Sarah and Beth use it to broadcast themselves and then every talks in the comments (kinda like the Popcast AUA). We're all usually watching something on our own devices while also engaging in discussions on the HotMic stream. They did this for the last night of both the DNC and RNC. Tonight it's for election returns. I'm looking at it like election therapy as Sarah and Beth help my regulate my emotions surrounding politics. The code for tonight is PANTSUIT and it's from 8pm-10pm EST.
I'm sure it does a lot more, but I only have ever used it for Sarah and Beth.
my kids have been discovering music via spotify which led to a small treasure yesterday. my 6 year old was finishing her schoolwork in the office with my husband. there was no music playing at the time -- they were just working quietly together. without warning, she turns to him, and asks with genuine curiosity - "But Dad, who DID let the dogs out? I mean, he keeps asking and asking and no one ever answers him." kids, man. hope you all find small treasures to offset the legit anxiety of today/this week/this year...
OK you need a big bottle of Everclear, a 1/2 gallon of apple cider and a half a gallon of good apple juice. Cinnamon sticks, 1/4 cup brown sugar and caramel bits (optional)
Pour both juices into a big soup pot, add cinnamon sticks, brown sugar and simmer together until sugar is dissolved. Add in caramel stir until melted and remove from heat. Leaving out the caramel makes this apple pie moonshine.
Remove cinnamon sticks
While the mixture is still warm, pour in half the bottle of ever clear. Stir together. While still warm fill 8oz mason jars 3/4s full. Once cool place in fridge! Serve warm!
Edit: It seems that Everclear is not legal in all states. You can sub vodka or caramel flavored vodka.
Use more or less alcohol depending on how potent you’d prefer!
Thank you for these treasures! I am waiting on some tough medical news (non Covid) and these will be a comfort no matter my results. Grateful for this community.
I’m a little teary this morning, reading Erin’s spreadsheet (something for everyone!), the love chapter reimagined for today, and all you precious Swipettes’ comments. I have really been struggling with loving my neighbors and family who vote differently than me. I struggle with being ok with it if my candidates don’t win. I see others expressing that all are welcome, that they love everyone no matter what, and I feel envious that they can be so Christlike. So I continue to pray that God grant me the same attitude of love and acceptance, and gratefully acknowledge His love for me!
Thank you for sharing Justin’s words - they’re making me think! “Everything is a matter of politics (the art and practice of living with others in agreement and disagreement)”
I am taking my boys to our polling place to hand in my ballot. Then we are going to go "get pears" at Target and end with my new favorite Starbucks drink, and probably a cake pop for the boys. When we get home, we'll be reading A Kids Book About Voting, watching some old school School House Rock about elections, and ending the lesson with our favorite YouTube educational personality, Mr. DeMaio: https://youtu.be/LQEYCxAsjD0
I still have not decided yet if I am going to watch the returns, or just watch something fun. Either way, I'll probably embroider while I watch.
Well, guys. I voted early last week, but I took my boys on a walk to our polling place to see if I could show them a line. There was no line, but as we walk up, my 3-year-old says, “But where is the water?” And I said, “....water? Why do we need water?” And he says, “For the boats!”
Because of course he would hear “boat” instead of “vote.” 😆🤣🛳
Thank you for this, Erin! Your spiritual gift of spreadsheets is a blessing to us. Also that Ben Rector Thanksgiving Song feels like a hug, if anyone needs one. I pray everyone's Tuesday is full of "little bits of shalom" as our beloved Erin Moon would say. And tacos. And whiskey. And Christmas music. And whatever you need to keep hope alive today. Love you all!
I told my 5 year old that it was election day and he asked to go vote. Since he is too young 😉, we are going to go see if there are lines at polling places around our neighborhood and give out water bottles
You're welcome! There weren't lines where we went either. So we gave water to the people waving political signs. The kids really liked feeling involved.
Erin, just seeing your name associated with this community in my inbox today made me a little happy teary. You all are such a source of comfort and light.
Take heart, dear ones. May we love one another, ourselves, our people and our neighbors well today. And may God bless the take out sushi that will fill my belly tonight as I ask him to fill my soul with peace that passes understanding.
Also, for those who follow The Lazy Genius, Kendra creates a playlist for this week that is so amazing I can’t adequately articulate it. It’s like a blanket for the soul. “Soft Hearts, Deep Breaths” on Spotify.
Can we talk about growing up with Veggie Tales and then entering the corporate world and making a Silly Songs with Larry reference that is met with blank stares? Happen to anybody else?...
My oldest child is making dinner tonight! I will eat it and then pour a whisky and keep praying for all the things.

May I ignorantly ask what HotMic is?

This is my five year old’s favorite song. He asks Alexa to play it constantly! 😆😆
This is fantastic.
Love this so much 😆

Grace and peace to you - for yourself, sweet Traci.
You don't have to do it perfectly.
Thank you, friend
I feel that too, Traci. I feel that so deeply. I’m working on moving forward with it. Justin McRobert’s words really help to re-center. https://www.instagram.com/p/CHGaZVcBBna/?igshid=19bpj8317l9a1
Here’s to being able to sit in this together 💕

I spent Sunday afternoon sketching my new embroidery hoop and am happy to have something to occupy my hands and some mental energy this week.
Love how involved you are with your kids in this process! I hope to do that some day.
Also, Lectio 365 was ON POINT today. It brought a lot of peace to my heart.
Agreed! The app is so good - favorite way to start my mornings!
I did not know about this app! I am already listening to it.
The other one I love is a podcast, technically meant for kids but is soo lovely! Its called We wonder. So soothing!
Preach.
Thank you for the reminder of Lectio 365! I think I’ll be returning to it multiple times today
Lectio 365 has been my daily treasure! Today's was wonderful.
Truly, i turned it on first thing
It was perfection!
Completely agree! And something about hearing a lovely British accent made it all the more a balm.
For real!
So true!

Love you all. Glad we’ve got each other 🙏💗
Hannah, as I was scrolling through my Spotify playlist, I saw your two Quarantine playlists and grinned at seeing your name there. Thankful for you.
Danielle! I love this. Thankful for you too, friend. 💗
That is too cute!!
