My friend Julie is your friend Julie!!! Imagine my surprise when I'm reading and the farther I get in the sentence, the more and more familiar it sounds. Go, Julie, Go!!!

There are 2 or 3 houses on my street that have really gone for it on the Halloween decorations, and I'm excited to find out if they're as enthusiastic about Christmas. Having a bunch of strangers knock on my door all evening is not an option with my "guard" dog and I'm not really up for that level of social interaction anyway, so I'm trying to decide whether to go half-Scrooge (bowl of candy on the porch with a note) or full Scrooge (porch light off, hide in my room watching Practical Magic and/or Hocus Pocus).

It's been years since I watched any baseball at all, and yet here I am with Game 1 of the World Series on in the background because I'm a good, red-blooded American, or something. Somehow it never fully feels like fall until Halloween, so happy fall!

I had an 11th hour Halloween costume idea that I am probably not going to be able to pull off, so itโ€™s in my pocket for next year (Mabel from Only Murders end of season 1 IYKYK)

Rapid fire ๐Ÿ’ฉand ๐Ÿ’Ž

๐Ÿ’ฉ

1. Puking kids

2. Husband calling out my week of sloth and emotional avoidance (also a ๐Ÿ’Ž but ๐Ÿ’ฉ because it was happening)

3. Emotional exhaustion from extended family issues

4. Feeling blue but not 100% sure why - could be a melting pot of ๐Ÿ’ฉ

๐Ÿ’Ž

1. Book The Liturgy of Politics by Kaitlyn Scheiss

2. Walks outside

3. Gun time

4. Fall parties

5. Candy corn and candy pumpkins (do not yuck my yum, please and thank-you ๐Ÿ˜‰)

6. Getting my blood drawn by someone who knows what they are doing. Weird one, yes, but when it is done well it is weirdly satisfying to see those little vials fill up.

Okay, short and sweet this week. โค๏ธ

My costume plan involves wearing silver spandex in a postpartum-post-pandemic body to complete a wizard of oz family costume. But Dorthysure looks cute and the baby is Todo ๐Ÿฅฐ

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR COMPLETING THE SURVEY TODAY! You've doubled my responses so far, so now I'll have a large enough sample to make at least some "medium effect observations" <- nerd speak for I have enough people's answers to know that any patterns we see aren't an accident/coincidence. My whole team is thrilled!

Hi friends! I'm in Rochester NY visiting my bestie and also all the gorgeous maples and oaks that we don't have in Colorado. We dawdled around Seneca Lake yesterday, and it was fantastic. This month has been absolutely insane for me at work, and it's so nice to be here, with no responsibilities and lots of time to chat and read and watch the leaves fall off the trees. And eat many different varieties of apples! ๐Ÿ˜ I could totally live here. At least in October. Without my husband or children or a job.

Hey, I'm coming back to remind y'all that Papa John's does a jack-o-lantern pizza on Halloween. Our Halloween tradition is to get this pizza before trick-or-treaters start coming.

Enjoy!

Hi friends!! I feel like it has been ages since Iโ€™ve been able to pop in here. I am so happy to be back! โ˜บ๏ธ My Friday mornings this fall Iโ€™ve been pretty bonkers. Actually my entire fall has been pretty bonkers๏ฟผ. But HI ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿ˜

I have been listening to Midnights all week, and I like it more and more each time๏ฟผ. A TS album debuting in the fall just feels right. ๐Ÿ‚

Over the last two months I have been trying medication for the first time for (my newly diagnosed) ADHD. And WOWIE ZOWIE it is a game changer. There are still some kinks to figure out, but I donโ€™t feel like I am on the anxiety hamster wheel, constantly worrying if Iโ€™ve forgotten something important.๏ฟผ Also, the most unexpected side effect is that itโ€™s so much easier to be kind with myself and give myself grace.๏ฟผ ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ˜ญ

And last thing, before I go get ready for another busy Friday, is that for my Halloween costume๏ฟผ, I will be dressing in white jeans with an unbuttoned Hawaiian shirt (over a tank top lol), as โ€œTrader Julesโ€. (I decided on the costume, when I went to Trader Joeโ€™s wearing that exact outfit and realized I might get mistaken for an employee. Also, I canโ€™t get over the pun I made with my own name. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚)

Happy Friday Swipes! I hope you eat lots of really good candy this weekend๏ฟผ๏ฟผ๏ฟผ. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Now I will always sing it as "a hunger games face. " ๐Ÿ˜†

Did the survey! I have a high ACE score and am so glad research is being done. And i am a giant Human Development nerd. Hope it goes well!

We moved to a new neighborhood that historically doesn't have a lot of trick or treaters, but some new families have moved in so we are preparing just in case. We hung little ghosts up on the porch.Tonight is a pumpkin carving with pals. Sunday afternoon is a costume party at a local cider. And on Halloween we will sit out front with our firepit and some popcorn and cider for any neighbors who want to join us. We have 2 bags of candy in case kids show up. Here's hoping!

Tonight we are going as the Addams family (my kids idea). I made a cousin It to sit in the trunk and itโ€™s real fun.

Today, however, Iโ€™m going to dress in 90s grunge and when my students say Iโ€™m dressed like them Iโ€™m going to say โ€œno, babies, I am dressed as MY teenage self. We are the originals.โ€

Hi everyone!

I love baby elephants so much I might have put them on my Christmas list several years in a row. I never got one (I know, I'm as surprised as you are!) ๐Ÿ˜

Anyway, not much to report here, I'm sick and have spent all week in bed. The most exciting thing that happened was that I bought a new hairbrush. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

If you're the praying kind, could you please pray for my friend Jenny who's desperately trying to raise money for life saving surgery? I just found out she unexpectedly lost her father earlier this month. Please pray for her and her family who now have to navigate grief and loss on top of everything else. (And if you want to read Jenny's story or donate towards her surgery you can do it here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/savejenny )

Tack care friends! Can't wait to read about your turds and treasures. โค

We get absolutely zero trick or treaters so costumes for the sake of handing out candy are wasted on us, but my husband and I are going out with our friends tonight and we are going as Bob and Linda Belcher from Bobโ€™s Burgers. We may have convinced our other friends to be Tina and Jimmy Jr, but we will see!

Hey everyoneโ€”hope your weeks have been as smooth as possible. ๐Ÿ™‚ That tweet with the baby elephant is literally one of the best things Iโ€™ve seen in a long time. I will watch it on repeat all weekend.

Halloween is super fun, and I love to decorate and read spooky books and eat candy all month. But no costumes over here. My husband and I donโ€™t really have any kids on our street and also have no kids ourselves, so we always get Chinese food, close the blinds, turn off all the lights, and watch 80โ€™s movies that I never saw (which is a long listโ€ฆwe didnโ€™t watch much TV/movies growing up). I think this year will be Terminator or Beetlejuice. Maybe both since 80โ€™s movies are pretty short!

To be honest, not many treasures over here. My mental health is not great currently, and it was one of the hardest weeks Iโ€™ve had in a while. One day at a time, one thing at a time, one decision at a time. Thatโ€™s what I am trying to remember. Something that does make me happy is that I finally pulled out a sweatshirt I bought back in June that has the outline of a chicken filled with flowers. I will link it here. Itโ€™s delightful and itโ€™s a small thing making me really happy.

Cheers to Friday! Looking forward to reading everyoneโ€™s updates. ๐Ÿ™‚

I never can think of any treasures. But this week I have two! The first is the seasonal Chobani Peppermint Mocha coffee creamer. I am normally a black coffee drinker but Iโ€™m sorry I cannot stop this from finding itโ€™s way into my mug every damn day. Get it pronto.

The second thing that is giving me so much life (or just โ€œgivingโ€ as my kids say) is this 80โ€™s trash playlist that my HS bestie made for me. Yโ€™all itโ€™s deep cuts of Slow Jams and I cannot.

Iโ€™m a loser. How do I post it on here? Iโ€™ve tried

๐Ÿ‘ป Iโ€™m dressing up as the Scarlet Witch this year! Itโ€™ll be so fun!

๐Ÿ“บ Per the advice of many Lil Swipes, Iโ€™m finally caught up with Abbott Elementary and it feels so nice to have a show I like again and can look forward to every week! Their Halloween episode this week was a riot.

๐Ÿ‘ผ๐Ÿป Two of my friends are having a baby in April! Itโ€™s bittersweet sometimes, but itโ€™s also so cool to see my friends become parents.

๐Ÿฅฒ One of my best friends asked me what the best feeling I feel right now is, and it took me a while to come up with an answer, but I think right now, itโ€™s gratitude. Thereโ€™s plenty to complain about, and sometimes (often) rightfully so. But so much in my life is going right after many hard won fights and I just canโ€™t help but be...grateful.

Good morning, Swipes!!!

Happy Halloween weekend! Our town does a Parade of Pumpkins every year during the 2 weeks leading up to Halloween. Everyone decorates a pumpkin and takes it to a designated area downtown and we get to vote on which one is the best. All the stores in the area will decorate their windows and they have a "Glow Trail" with glow in the dark pumpkins along the creek that runs along side downtown. It is so much fun! My husband and I took my mother-in-law this week and it felt like the official season opener to Fall. It was even a little chilly! We even took her to a fancy downtown restaurant for dinner beforehand because she doesn't get to go out much and she loved it!

I am so ready for Monday! Our neighborhood is very popular for trick-or-treating and we usually see about 500 kids. I just love seeing how excited the kids get and their cute and sometimes scary costumes. I may dress up as a bumble bee this year to give out candy.

October has by far been my absolute busiest/craziest month at work, yet, and I'm so thankful it's over! I have one more assignment to finish by Monday and then I get a really nice break through Christmas.

Someone last week mentioned enjoying the podcast Normal Gossip. I have already listened to every episode of the Popcast and Bible Binge 3 times each, so I thought it would be acceptable to give another one a try and this is so so good!! It's just a podcast where the host tells a guest about some normal gossip from a listener's life and it's so entertaining. I highly recommend starting with the episode with Matt Bellassai called You Can't Fight Heiress Tongue.

Okay, I hope everyone has a festive and relaxing weekend if you can! Can't wait to catch up in the comments <3
